Dear Parishioners, As promised, I will be conducting a Catholic Apologetics class beginning Thursday, Septem-ber 21st in the Marian Hall @ 7 p.m. This will occur every Thursday until December 14th. The October 5th class will not occur because the priests will be on retreat in Marywood. There will be a flyer in the vestibule of the church ex-plaining the classes and the schedule of topics. I would recommend that each participant bring a Bible, notepad and possibly a Catechism of the Catholic Church. If you have children, I will try to arrange for childcare. Check with me as we get closer to the date on this. I will also en-courage any participants, if they would like, to bring snacks and drinks prior to the class. We can have light refreshments before and after the class. For more information, you can con-tact me at the parish office or before or after the masses. Religious education has begun! If you have not done so, please make sure to register your child with Sue Ann Nanny, the parish secretary and director of religious education. Religious education is required for all those children wishing to receive sacraments. It is also imper-ative that those enrolling their children in CCD should be attending mass. Also, please use the registration cards in the church vestibule to register you and your fami-ly in the parish. We are seeing a large number of new faces in the congregation on weekends. If you have just moved to the area, please fill out the registration cards and place them in the offering basket. If you are transferring your church membership from another parish, please inform the other parish that you have done so. This will prevent continued mailings from your previous parish.
And now some funnies:
#1 – A drunk man who smelled like cheap wine sat down on a subway seat next to a priest. The man's tie was stained, his face was plastered with red lip-stick, and a half empty bottle of gin was sticking out of his torn coat pocket. He opened his newspaper and began reading. After a few minutes the man turned to the priest and asked, "Say, Father, what causes arthri-tis?" "My Son, it's caused by loose living, being with cheap, wicked women, too much alcohol and a con-tempt for your fellow man." "Well, I'll be hornswaggled," the drunk muttered, returning to his paper. The priest, thinking about what he had said, nudged the man and apologized. "I'm very sorry. I didn't mean to come on so strong. How long have you had arthritis?" "I don't have it, Father. I was just reading here that the Pope does".
#2 – A drunk phoned the local police department to report that thieves had been in his car. "They have stolen the dashboard, the steering wheel, the brake pedal, even the accelerator," he cried out. However, before the police investigation could start, the phone rang a second time, and the same voice came over the line. "Never mind," the drunk said with a hiccup. "I got in the back seat by mistake."
#3 – A little guy is sitting at a bar, just looking at his drink for about a half-hour. A big trouble making truck driver comes up to him, takes the drink from the guy, and drinks it all down. The poor man starts crying. The truck driver says: "Come on man, I was just joking. Here, I'll buy you another drink. I just can't see a man crying." "No, it's not that. Today is the worst of my life. First, I overslept and was late to an important meeting. My boss, outrageous, fired me. When I left the building to my car, I found out it was stolen. The police, they said they could do nothing. I got a cab to return home, and after I paid the cab driver and the cab had gone, I found that I left my wallet in the cab. I got home only to find my wife was with the gardener. I left home and came to this bar. When I was thinking about putting an end to my life, you show up and drink my poison ..." Fr. Murphy
