    Working with E.ON

At E.ON, they started basically from nowhere, with no budget and, to a certain extent, theywere thrown into the process. However, the team had a great deal of enthusiasm andthere was a lot of preparation that went on beforehand.

Tapping into IMDs Corporate Learning Network of over 190 companies, E.ON was able todraw from the experience of about a dozen companies who shared their practices andprocesses. Knowledge-brokering is basically using old ideas in new ways, and IMD focuseson using it for business processes in this case, responsible procurement. The peopleinvolved are passionate and knowledgeable about CSR and enough is shared for answersto be found rather than created. E.ONs solution was one that worked in their environmentand was a combination of answers that they found. This knowledge-brokering process istypically only 1/20th the cost of creating a solution. You dont need huge resources; youdont need large teams. You need to start somewhere, to make progress, but more thananything you need an extremely efficient design process. A week at IMD's BoosterProgrom enabled E.ON to rapidly design their responsible procurement program, whichthey immediately began to implement. This meant there was no time-wasting or loss ofmomentum.

    Mobilize the silent army

In most companies there are people willing donate their time and energy towardsimproving their environment. Developing a structure that activates this silent army tomake progress is where CSR processes are most productive. Once mobilized, this silentarmy starts building on itself. Helping to bring this together is part of what CSR processesare about.

I believe we have a tremendous opportunity for creating very constructive change.Although the challenges we face are big, I think people are very socially conscious and atIMD we are willing to help out in some shape or form, wherever theres an interest. Pleasecontact us.
