A brief history

Corporate Infocom Pvt Ltd was set up by 21year old Rahul Walia approximately 5 years ago.

He set up the company with 2 other people, Diwakar Dhyani and Mayank Thakur.

The company originally functioned from a flat rented from Rahul’s family.

It is now a big website hosting provider functioning in over 16 countries

Factors that led to the business being set up

Personal factors For Rahul Walia, he was more spurred by

want then need. He wanted a certain sense of achievement

and self-worth. He wanted to be able to buy himself the cars

he wanted with his own cash. To cease being dependent on others esp his

family. Did not want to do a job as it didn’t give him

creative freedom and allow him to be his own boss.

Factors cont.. He had the opportunity when a friend

(Diwakar Dhyani) of his who was studying IT wanted to start a web designing company

For the company, they needed capital. An initial capital of 7.5lakhs was required in cash. This they obtained from Rahul’s parents. They started operating from a flat taken on lease from Rahul’s parents.

Due to a great number similar small companies with similar profiles, there was a great deal of competition. So they didn’t do too well in their initial web designing venture.

They realised they had no X factor nor spare capital to invest in intense advertising or marketing.

That’s when Mayank Thakur stepped in. He was a friend of theirs and just in converstaion on day he mentioned how it would be so cool to have a website of his own.

They hence came up with the idea of selling websites to the masses. Basically to every single youngster out there, using referral marketing.

Referral marketing was widely used in most industries, selling of cosmetics, soaps, even for hiring professionals. Why not use it to sell websites.

They then worked out the entire product structure deciding to offer a do-it-urself website kit.

Product Each web package would cost Rs7525

(inclusive of taxes). It would include a registered domain name,

web space, 30 templates designed by the company, 10 corporate e-mail ids, a control panel, and a blog maker.

Upon referring the package to 2 other people, you basically get paid, Rs 2000.

As more and more people get referred, the amount being paid to you also increases.

This basically helped the company, as in order to earn money, people would spread the news and hence the company didn’t have to actually invest in advertising.

Troubled Waters

Gradually with time, the concept became accepted by youngsters. It took the engineering colleges by storm.

Many were intrigued by the ability to earn fast cash through referral rather than the product itself

This caused a couple of hoax companies to enter the scene.( ) They rode on the Corporate ‘wave’, charged less, offered no product but simply shifted the money around and let everyone ‘earn’ from referrals.

This caused a lot of negative publicity as quite a few people joined these hoax companies and lost their money.

Business dipped and people started regarding the company with suspicion.

Getting back on track.

Rahul recognized the need for getting his customers and other potential customers educated about the company’s legality.

The three of them, started holding seminars. They addressed the legality issues. Showed their website patents and registration papers.

They also identified that the youth (which is their target market) were very keen on making money. That was their main motivation to buy the product in the first place.

They addressed this motivation. Tailor making the product for the other entrepreneurs of tomorrow.

They revamped their product. 1. Got a tie up with google ad sense for placing

advertisements on their websites from day1 instead of having to wait the traditional 6 months.

2. Increased product composition to include, a e-learning package (auto CAD, Dreamweaver, JAVA, Studio 8, 3D max,Visual Basic)

3. Providing 12 Google SEO key words4. A control panel, 30 normal templates, 40 flash

templates, 35 mb space on a windows server5. Training sessions to on creating the websites6. For those specifically interested in earning

money from referrals, the incorporated the customer as a “franchisee”.

Page 13: Corporate Infocom Pvt Ltd

Encouraged the entrepreneur in their franchisees.

Conducted training sessions for them, educating them on the legalities of the company, giving them incentives to expand their ‘down line’. (basically the first person to earn 1cr gets a AudiA6)

Formed a distinct organizational structure in the company. Rahul took up the Chairperson position. Diwakar the CEO and he handled all the technicalities to do with the software.

Encouraged entrepreneurship in their down line. Empowered the youth to earn their own money at a younger age. (you can earn up to 1 lakh per week!)

Encouraged ethics, communication, formal dressing, presentation skills and transparency.
