The fast growing economy of Conway is no accident. It’s
among the MOST DIVERSE ECONOMICS IN THE UNITED
STATES, enjoys low unemployment, and is fueled by
an extremely educated workforce. The discovery and
development of natural gas in the region places Conway at
the nucleus of Arkansas’ energy industry. Coupled with a
fast growing technology sector, Conway is poised for future
growth. Those factors all combined to make Conway and
Faulkner County a bright spot in the national economy.
Conway is located in Central Arkansas along Interstate
Highway 40 just 30 MILES NORTHWEST OF LITTLE ROCK.
A creative blend of modern and quaint, Conway, Arkansas,
has the energy of a big city while maintaining a small-town
quality of life that is second to none.
The CITY OF 60,000 is home to two colleges and one
university, Hendrix College, Central Baptist College and the
University of Central Arkansas, earning it the nickname,
“The City of Colleges.” Its convenient centralized location
also makes it a major distribution and service center for the
entire area.
Conway’s thriving business community and scenic lakes
and parks make it the type of city people dream of when
choosing a place to relocate, raise a family, or retire. And
with more than 150 restaurants and a variety of national and
locally owned retailers, Conway has become a destination
for shopping and dining.

Baptist Health-Conway to open in SeptemberBaptist Health Medical Center-Conway is scheduled to be open to patients in September.
With the Women’s Center that was added to the plans last year, there will be more than 110 beds in the $150 million 260,000-square-foot facility.
“The Women’s Center will be [open] several months after the main building opens, but definitely before the end of the year,” Dennis G. Hyland, Baptist Health special projects manager, told the Log Cabin Democrat during a building tour.
The main building is about 85 percent complete, he said.
“We’re completing the building in different zones because it’s so large. The building is about 260,000 square feet,” Hyland said. “A large portion of the first floor is complete. We’re moving furniture and equipment in right now.”
Harrison M. Dean, Baptist Health senior vice president-regional hospitals, said one of the most impressive aspects of the hospital will be the smart beds in patient rooms.
“You don’t think of a patient bed as a piece of information technology but it truly is — it weighs you, it takes your temperature. … The technology is much more advanced,” Dean said.
Hyland said the Conway facility will be the first in the Baptist Health system to feature smart beds.
Dean said Baptist Health Medical Center-Conway will start with a staff of more than 300 for opening day and expect to hire more soon after.
“Once occupancy takes off, it could conceivably be as many as 600-700 employees,” he said.
The hospital saved time by building in different zones, Dean said.
“The building completes in six zones. As each zone is completed, we’re moving behind that and installing the things we have to install — furniture, fixtures, equipment, computers, phones. By doing that, we actually have compressed the opening day and gained seven weeks. Rather than opening in late 2016, we’re opening in September,” he said.
The hospital will include eight critical care beds, 88 med-service beds and eight operating rooms, two of which are oversized. The Women’s Center will have 15-16 postpartum beds and eight or nine labor and delivery rooms, Hyland said.
He said his goal was “a building that doesn’t look like a hospital.”
“It’s got a lot of light,” he said, pointing to the sunlight streaming in. “Come in the front door, the entire east side of the building is glass. We’ve got a long corridor that’s got the information desk, gift shop and coffee bar all at the front of the building. It’s really going to be impressive.”
