In Loving Memory of my husband, Edward Baker, who passed away July 24, 2006

As seasons pass and days go byWith summer sun and warm spring rain

I long to walk among the flowersAnd feel your hand in mine again.

As seasons pass and time goes byWith autumn leaves and winter snowI miss the warmth of your strong arms

To keep me safe when cold winds blow.

The world keeps turning silentlyNo knowing of my broken heart

And of the emptiness I feelEver since weʼve been apart.

Itʼs been eight years since youʼve been goneTo walk with God through Heavenʼs door

And with each passing season Ed,I only miss you more and more.

I love you, Lee

Home tip If there is a custom tile or spe-cific design that you really likethat is not within your budgetfor the entire kitchen or bath-room, think about using it asan accent instead. Rely onless expensive tiles for muchof the room, then sprinkle inthe accent tiles for the styleyou want. The finished projectwill look high-end, but you willlikely have stayed within yourbudget. You also can savemoney by shopping at a reusecenter or one that sells rem-nants and leftover materialsfrom larger jobs. For example,it's possible to find a piece ofmarble or granite that would fitperfectly as a countertop in abathroom.

Did you know? Watering a lawn can do moreharm than good if the lawn isnot watered correctly. Exces-sive watering is a waste ofwater and can cost homeown-ers money while harming theenvironment at the same time.Water that is not absorbed bythe lawn can result in runoff, which causes nitrogen in thegrass, any fertilizer that wasapplied and chemicals in thewater itself to run into guttersand eventually pollutestreams, rivers and oceans. Inaddition, grass needs oxygenin the soil to grow properly. Butwhen a lawn is overwatered, the oxygen between the soilparticles is pushed out, depriv-ing roots of the oxygen theyneed to grow in strong. Thisleads to shallow root systems, which make a lawn more sus-ceptible to stress, disease andinsect infestation. But overwa-tering can also be unsightly, aslawns that are overwateredtend to have more weeds, rob-bing even the greenest oflawns of its aesthetic appeal.

9 ways to improve curb appealHomeowners who want their homes to make strong first impressions must prioritize curb appeal.Homes with strong curb appeal sell well and can impart a welcoming feel to all visitors. Improvingcurb appeal need not be expensive, and the following are a handful of ways to improve the appear-ance of your home.1. Install a bold-looking door in a vibrant color or one with a custom design. This helps the homestand out from other properties in the neighborhood.2. Edge the driveway to create a distinct border between the driveway and the lawn or other land-scaping features. This helps homes appear neat and well kept.3. Use outdoor lighting to make a home more inviting. Outdoor lighting also makes properties saferto traverse at night.4. Clean a home's exterior to remove mildew or discolorations from the siding, driveway, patio, andother outdoor elements.5. Improve landscapes with fresh plants and seasonal color. Homeowners without the time to plantcan consider container gardens, which don't take much time to assemble but still add appeal to ahome's exterior.6. Prune planting beds and add new mulch to restore color.7. Add shutters and accent trim to a home's exterior to improve on the beauty of the house.8. Install new fencing or give a fresh coat of paint or stain to an existing fence.9. Replace concrete paths with tile or stone walkways to make entryways more impressive andinviting.

Did you know? Landscape fabrics are used to prevent weed growth while still al-lowing air, oxygen and water to flow to and from the soil. Land-scape fabrics are a chemical-free way to prevent weed growth, endearing them to eco-friendly homeowners. Landscape fabrics, once laid, also are a far less labor-intensive method to preventweed growth, as they can be effective for several years, duringwhich homeowners can expect to perform little or no mainte-nance. In addition, many homeowners prefer landscape fabricsbecause they can help the soil effectively maintain moisture dur-ing dry periods, when gardens might otherwise be highly suscep-tible to drought. Once put down, landscape fabric can be coveredwith mulch to add aesthetic appeal.

Corinthʼs 2014 Summer Theatre Workshopʼs “Once Upon A Mattress” July 26th & 27th,August 2nd & 3rd

The Corinth Youth Commission (CYC) is pleased to announce its sponsored project, the Summer2014 Summer Theatre Workshop. This program received support from Saratoga Arts through itsSaratoga Program for Arts Funding, which is made possible by the New York State Council on theArts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature. Other majorfunding is provided by International Paper Foundation, Stewartʼs Holiday Match Grant, Indeck,Corinth Merchantʼs Association, and area businesses and individuals. Their production of Once Upon A Mattress will be the culmination of a five-week program of hands-on theatre experience for kids ages 8-18 with 4 performances on July 26th and 27th and August2nd and 3rd. The production is set at one of the loveliest spots along the Hudson River, beside thebeach in Corinth. This hilarious musical takes place a time long ago and in a kingdom far away.Queen Aggravain ruled that none in her kingdom may wed until her son, Prince Dauntless, finds asuitable bride. Twelve princesses have come and gone and the queen has ensured that none ofthem passed her test. When the princess of the swamp, Princess Winnifred, arrives, Dauntlessand the rest of the kingdom fall in love with her. Everyone lends a hand to try to get Winnifred topass the test, but one tiny pea is what will determine the fate of the kingdom. Written by MaryRodgers and Marshall Barer. For the CYC, it is their fifth SPAF Arts Project Grant, bringing Annie Jr., Oliver!, Disneyʼs Beauty

and the Beast, and A 1920ʼs Midsummer Nightʼs Dream to the stage in previous years to rave re-views. They are very pleased to be sponsoring a project in the arts that will benefit so many areayouth. Besides running several sports programs, the Youth Commission also runs a summer play-ground program for school children, the Corinth Ski Club, several summer field trips and other ac-tivities as well as the theater program. The program gives participants the opportunity to act, sing, dance, assist with directing and chore-ographing, run lights and sound, backstage crew, concessions, and marketing. Learning team-work, communication and problem-solving skills, as well as gaining the concept of cooperationthrough various project activities students will work under the tutelage of a caring, talented, andprofessional staff, with Director Jessica Camp, Musical Director Michaela Trackey, Natalie Pender-gast as Choreographer and Stage Manager; Assistants Lillee Parker and Cassandra Blaich, and Accompanist Norm Mosher. One of the parents said, “We love that the kids of all ages come together learn their craft, have funand bond like no other group we have seen before. They support and teach each other not onlytheatre, but respect for each otherʼs strength and differences in a very positive environment.” Anactor stated “The program is awesome! Itʼs a very good place to make friends of all ages and every-one is nice and itʼs fun. You meet lots of new people”. Performances will begin at 2:00 pm on July 26th, 27th and August 2nd and 3rd in the park behindthe Corinth Free Library at 79 Main Street (Route 9N), Corinth. A CARʼS WIPERS NEED CARE TO KEEP THINGS CLEAR

(NAPSI)—Windshield wipers may be among the most overworked and underappreciated equip-ment on your car.For example, while drivers depend on their wipers for visibility in rain, sleet and snow, manydonʼt pay attention to them until they canʼt see clearly out of the windshield. As a result, say ex-perts, they end up endangering their own safety as well as that of fellow travelers.“Windshield wipers take a beating—not just because of normal use, but also extreme temper-atures, ultraviolet light, car waxes, tree sap, road tar and even pollutants,” says wiper specialistChris Vermette.A good rule of thumb is to replace blades at least yearly, or as soon as you notice a streak, skipor smear. Itʼs an easy do-it-yourself project, but damaged wiper arms and motors may needprofessional attention.Signs Of WearThe most common signs and causes of worn wiper blades include:• Streaking: The rubber squeegee dries, hardens and cracks, or there is debris on the wind-shield.• Skipping: The blade develops a curvature from damage or lack of use.• Wearing: Excessive use and rounded—not squared—rubber edges.• Splitting: Rubber deteriorates and separates from the frame because of sun and solvent dam-age.Tips On Preserving BladesWhile no wiper blade lasts forever, ACDelco Professional Service Center Program techniciansrecommend these tips to prolong blade life and preserve your visibility:• Clean your windshield at every fill-up.• Wipe the rubber blade with a damp paper towel to remove loose dirt• Never use windshield wipers to remove ice from your windshield. The stress can damage theblade as well as the motor. Use an ice scraper or defroster.• In the winter, pull up wipers to prevent the squeegee from icing and sticking to the glass.• Use a quality washer solvent; cheap ones are full of alcohol, which dries the rubber. To learn more or find an ACDelco Professional Service Center, visit www.acdelco.com.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, START YOUR ENGINES(NAPSI)—For dependable vehicle operation, itʼs essential, for starters, to prevent ignition systemfailure. That way, you wonʼt be left stranded by the side of the road. How To Tell“Symptoms of ignition problems include dimming of headlights and interior lights, illuminated ʻCheckEngineʼ and battery lights, and failure of accessories to operate,” explained Rich White, executivedirector, Car Care Council—the source of information for the “Be Car Care Aware” campaign pro-moting regular vehicle care, maintenance and repair. “Itʼs a good idea to look into these symptomsimmediately to prevent ignition failure from bringing your car to a complete stop.”What To DoDriving habits such as frequent engine on-off cycles cause more wear on the starter than a simpletrip back and forth to work. Other factors, including driving and weather conditions, mileage, vehicleage and excessive electrical draws like in-vehicle entertainment systems, can affect the ignitionsystem as well.Since the fuel injection system and car battery are linked to the ignition system, a problem can bedifficult to diagnose because it may be caused by one of many factors, such as a dead car battery, faulty ignition switch, worn-out spark plugs, bad fuel injectors, ignition coil problems, fuel pump fail-ure or starter motor failure.“Itʼs a good idea to include an ignition system checkup in your vehicle maintenance schedule,”added White.Where To Learn MoreTo help motorists follow a vehicle maintenance program, a free digital “Car Care Guide” can befound on the councilʼs website at www.carcare.org/car-care-guide. The guide is in English andSpanish and includes information on service interval schedules, questions to ask a technician, andtips to drive smart and save money.
