At Burlington Housing Authority , we put our

residents f irst , starting from the very

beginning of residency . Our goal is not only

to  provide a home  for our residents but a

community that has different resources they

can use such as the Crump Village Resource

and Education Center , FSS and ROSS

programs , GED classes , community events ,

and similar opportunities . By participating in

these programs , you are taking the f irst step

towards making connections to move

forward . Both the FSS and ROSS programs

are designed to assist BHA residents with

their dreams and planning for their future .

BHA also has regular  Local  Resident  Council

meetings which give  residents the

opportunity to get involved in the community

and have a voice .

Aidan (pictured left) is one of the students in

our after school program . He has been in our

program since December  and is eager to

continue learning . He is one of the many that

take  advantage of this free program that is

available for elementary through high school

students  Monday through

Thursday  afternoon .

WHAT A TIME TO

BE THANKFUL!

Recently, our Training For Manhood & Dream Girl participants took advantage of an early release day on Nov. 1st to visit Elon University.  The students were treated to a lunch provided by the university and were met by students from the Black Student Union on campus. They were shown a video on what makes Elon one of the better universities around. This was followed by a question/answer session with some of Elon students who were to serve as guides on our tour.  Our students were very interested in the school and asked some “great” questions.  Lastly the students were taken on a guided tour of the campus where they were shown the Business Building, Athletic Complex, and even a media production set in the communications building. We look forward to sending our youth on future tours of other campuses.

steel drum performance

On November 4th, BHA students participating in our Steel Drum Program performed at the Alamance Burlington Country Club along with a group of violinists from the Young Musicians of Alamance County.  The students were requested to participate in the fundraising events held by the Alamance County Arts Council.  It was a great experience for our students as well as an opportunity to showcase one of the great things taking place in our after-school program.

BHA has been working with the Elon Campus Kitchen in order to teach our residents about healthy eating. The residents helped plant community gardens with carrots, kale, tomato, broccoli, etc.  These gardens were tended and harvested by residents.  Our residents were educated in preparing healthy, nutritious meals from the vegetables they grew.

KAYSER ROTH

This company donated 3,764 pairs of socks to the residents for Christmas as well as pajamas and leggings to keep them warm during the colder months. The families were overjoyed when theyreceived these gifts and BHA is very thankful for their generous donation.

bus shelter ribbon cutting Wells Fargo donated $3,500 to assist in construction of bus shelters at Earl Gerow, Woodrail, and Maple Brook. Hector (middle photo, far left) is the president of the Youth Advisory Board and he cut the ribbon to celebrate the opening of these shelters. The city council leaders, Burlington Police Department, and Mayor Ian Baltutis were in attendance. These shelters were provided to shelter children from inclement weather at bus stops. Since the shelters were installed, children have had a better environment to wait for their bus.

Christmas with omega psi phiThe Delta Lambda Lambda Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. was established on June 24, 2001 in Burlington, NC.  During the month of December on Christmas Eve, a few of our brothers had the opportunity to interface with one of your newly transitioning residents from the Northeast region of the country. Linda and her family welcomed representatives from Delta Lambda Lambda with heartfelt thanks and sincere gratitude. She and her children were glistening with the excitement of the season as three gentlemen graced their doorstep bearinggifts and seasonal benevolence. Lacy Flintall Jr., Early Kenan and David Reaves were among the three tasked with representing the chapter for this day and what a wonderful day it was. This is truly an organization on the move that believes whole heartedly, “Friendship is essential to the soul.”
