She is on the faculty at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and the Corcoran School of Art and Design in Washington, D.C., where she teaches courses in bookbinding and book structures.

BrittanySøndbergisametalsmithfromGreensboro, NC where she owns her own jewelry company, Copper Chameleon Jewelry, focusing on vitreous enamels, uncommon stones, and responsibly sourced precious metals. Through her work in jewelry design and small fabrication, she also creates emotionally charged, aesthetically surprising installations and sculptural objects. Her work is in a variety of galleries and boutiques throughout the Northeastern United States and has been shown in a number of national exhibitions.

Students will learn the practical process of converting commercial porcelain into the easy-to-use and versatile material of paperclay. Natural Dyes: Start to FinishSaturday, August 23, 12—4 pm &Sunday, August 24, 10 am—4 pminstructor: Jennifer Mosslevel: allLearn everything you need to know to make your own natural dyes from locally sourced plant materials. On day one, students will prep materials, gather dyestuff, and cook dyes. Day two will reveal the wide range of colors available from the natural world. Safety procedures and processes for dyeing in your own home will also be covered.

Introduction to Modern QuiltingSaturday & SundayAugust 30 & 31 9 am —4 pminstructor: Jodi McLaughlinlevel: intermediateLearn the basics of quilting with a modern twist and discover why this beautiful, traditional craft is experiencing a contemporary revival. Led by Jodi McLaughlin, one of the co-founders of the Pittsburgh Modern Quilt Guild, this workshop covers the fundamentals of modern quilting. Students will complete a table runner, set of placemats, or mini-quilt while learning about tools and techniques such as piecing and straight-line quilting.

Enameling on Formed MetalSaturday & SundayAugust 2 & 310 am—5 pminstructor: Sarah Loch-Testlevel: allJoin former Studio Apprentice Sarah Loch-Test for a weekend of enameling. Metal forming and enamel can be combined in endless ways to create visual information, pattern, and depth. In this workshop students will experiment with applying enamel to sheet copper that has been pierced, dapped, and chased. Creative methods for setting and attaching enameled components will be covered on the second day.

What Lies Beneath Our Feet: Hunting & Foraging for Mosaic in an Urban LandscapeSaturday & SundayJune 7 & 89 am—4 pminstructor: Rachel Sagerlevel: allDiscover the magic of transforming raw material into tesserae, the building blocks of mosaic, with award-winning Pittsburgh mosaic artist Rachel Sager. This two-day workshop will include a field trip along the Allegheny River to source material, an introduction to cutting stone, guidance in working in high quality thin-set mortar, and Rachel's unique approach to contemporary mosaic philosophy. Students will learn Ikebana techniques including cutting, trimming, and bending branches and flowers to create structured lines in their arrangements. Learn the basics of constructing this book form and start to develop layered imagery around a theme or textascontent.A“tunnel”or“peepshow”book is a set of pages bound with accordions on two sides and viewed through a central opening. Students will learn the basics of constructing a tunnel book by building structural models and will then explore options for adding text and imagery.

CANCellAtiONS & ReFUNDSClass and workshop cancellations are decided three business days before the start date. If a class must be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, the entire class fee will be refunded.Refund PolicyStudent refund requests must be made at least three business days before a class begins. There will be a $25 cancellation fee. No refunds will be given without three business days notice. Processing of refunds takes approximately three weeks.3-5 Day WorkshopsCancellations with 14 or more days notice:A student may cancel a registration for a three-, four- or five-day workshop up to two weeks prior to the start date of the class. There will be a $50 cancellation fee. Cancellations with fewer than 14 days notice:If a student cancels a registration within two weeks of the start date of a three-, four- or five-day workshop, there will be a 50% cancellation fee.There will be no refund issued without three business days notice of a cancellation.

ONe-ON-ONe & StUDiO ReNtAlSPrivate lessons in many media can be arranged upon request for students of all ages and skill levels. Private lessons are $50 per hour, with a two-hour minimum. Also, independent studio use is available during open studio hours and by special arrangement.
