Dear Friends

Robust growth and steady fiscal consolidation have been the hallmark of the Indian economy in the year 2010-11 so far. The growth rate has been 8.6% in 2010-11 and is expected to be around

9% in the next fiscal year. The growth has been broad based with a rebound in the Agriculture sector which is expected to grow around 5.4%. Manufacturing and Services sector have registered impressive gains. Savings and investment are looking up while exports are rising. However food inflation, higher commodity prices and volatility in global commodity markets have been a cause of concern underscoring the need of fiscal consolidation and stronger reserves.

The exports in April-December 2010 went up by 29.5% while the imports during the same period registered a growth rate of 19%. The trade gap narrowed down to US$82.01 bn in the same period. Balance of payment situation has improved due to surge in capital flows and rise in foreign exchange reserves which have been accompanied by rupee appreciation. During current fiscal foreign exchange reserves increased by US$18.2bn from US$279.4 bn in end April 2010 to US$297.3 bn in end December 2010.

Despite the risks of global events, such as volatility in commodity prices like crude oil exacerbated by political turmoil in the Middle-East, the Indian economy seems poised to scale greater heights in terms of macro economic indicators. It sums up by stating that the real GDP growth is expected to reach the 9% mark in 2011-12 and the next two decades may well see the economy growing faster than it has done any time in the past.

Burnt & Rust Warranty On ALL Biostar Mother Board

India with its booming economy and stable political situation is one among the fastest developing country. The number of people using PCs in India is increasing with each minute due to education and industrialization.

This growth in PC usage is experienced in smaller C & D class towns as well. However, the infrastructure, particularly in terms of electrical power availability is not yet developed at par. And due to this, people face problems such as power cuts and voltage fluctuations in these areas. And such power fluctuations and power interruption may result in the components getting burnt.

Apart from this, the huge coast line of India coupled with highly humid atmospheric condition , also results in rusting of the components. This phenomenon is common in coastal areas particularly during monsoon season as the humidity is very high during that time of the year.

Considering these factors BIOSTAR along with their exclusive Indian distributor Abacus Peripherals Pvt. Ltd has implemented BURN & RUST warranty on all BIOSTAR Motherboards across India. This is an added advantage for the consumers as well as the channel partners. All Mother Boards purchased from 1st Nov 2010 are covered under this Burnt and Rust Warranty.

How big is security market in India? And how Panda Security is positioned in this market?

The security market in India is huge. Taking into consideration the percentage of PC penetration in an emerging economy like India, it is quite obvious that the security concern for the end users is on an all time high. The end users are more educated and informed regarding the security of their systems. Panda Security has entered into the Indian market with a range of products keeping the end users in focus. Moving ahead Panda Security is aiming to capture the huge potential present in the security market in India. What ranges of product do you have?

Panda Security has launched its line of product targeting the end users in the Indian market. This unique range of Panda products will secure the computers of the end users from all kinds of online threats like virus, hackers, online fraud, identity theft and all other known and unknown malware. Panda Security has launched four products keeping the Indian market into consideration, namingly; Panda Global Protection 2011, Panda Internet Security 2011, Panda Antivirus Pro2011 and Internet Security for Netbooks.

Panda products have a lot to offer to the end consumers in India. The consumers are assured to get value for the money that they spend on purchase of the Panda products. The end user can get the advantage of a free 2 GB online space on Panda Cloud even with the normal range of Panda products. In addition to this Panda Security provides separate license keys for the multi users enabling every user to use the software for a span of an entire year. How Panda security strategize to compete against new in-novative technologies and products?

We have proven to be the security company that can truly deliver Security from the Cloud.

The cloud is a term used metaphorically around the Internet. Panda Security heralds a new generation of security and antivirus services, in line with the trends of cloud computing: Cloud Security. Panda Cloud Antivirus (for retail) and Panda Cloud Protection

connects to the Collective Intelligence servers in the cloud to protect your computer, without requiring traditional updates or penalizing the performance of your system.

Now all knowledge is in the cloud, and thanks to these solutions any user can benefit from this.

The pillars of this new system are:Collection of data from the community: The system centrally

collects and stores behavioral patterns of programs, file traces, new malware examples, etc. This data comes from Panda users, and from other companies and collaborators. This wide capacity to collect information provides higher visibility of the threats that are active in the Internet.

Automated data processing: The system automatically analyzes and classifies the thousands of new samples received every day. To do this, an expert system correlates the data received from the community with Panda Lab’s extensive malware knowledge base. The system automatically returns verdicts (malware or good ware) on the new files received from the community, thereby reducing the tasks that PandaLabs must carry out manually to a minimum.

Release of the knowledge extracted: This knowledge in delivered to users as web services or through signature file updates.

From the delivery point of view, Panda Retail solutions for consumers and standalone PCs protection is fully integrated with Cloud Technology.

For corporate endpoint protection, Panda Cloud Protection is delivered in a SAAS model that provides complete protection for major threat vectors: endpoint, email and web. The main selling points for this type of service model are the cost-effectiveness, heightened security and reduced risk, and improved support since your IT will not be hosting the security solution. How Panda Security is focused on it Channel partners? What is the distribution model of Panda security in India? What do you do to strengthen the channel?

Panda Security has appointed Cyberstar Infocom Pvt Ltd as its exclusive national distributor in India. The distribution model for Panda is being looked after by Cyberstar. Cyberstar has taken up the initiative to train its channel on how to capitalize every business opportunity available for Panda in the context of the Indian market. They have appointed one sub distributors across 50 leading cities in India in order to capture and harness the potential market for Panda Security in India. Cyberstar has taken up the initiative to educate the end consumers on a priority basis. Panda Security through Cyberstar Infocom is focusing to grab a strong hold in the Indian market during the first phase of its operations. What is your go-to-market strategy?

Panda go-to-market strategy has always been to work with single local distributor to address the market. You can say it’s a traditional approach with innovative delivery as what we are delivering to the market today is truly topline product with innovative technologies such as cloud security. Do you have any plan to strengthen your channel commu-nity?

Yes definitely. We are working closely with Cyberstar on this. What are some of the trends that the security market is go-ing to see in near future?

The top trends that Panda Security predicts for the security market in the near future can be termed as following:

Malware creation - In 2010 there has been a significant growth in the amount of malware, a constant theme over the last few years. This year, more than 20 million new strains have been created, more than in 2009. The actual rate of growth year-on-year however, appears to have peaked: some years ago it was over 100%. In 2010 it was 50%. We will have to wait and see what happens in 2011.

Cyber war - In cyber-wars, as with other real-world conflicts

today, there are no ranks of uniformed troops making it easy to distinguish between one side and another. This is like guerrilla warfare, where it is impossible to discern who is launching the attack or from where. The only thing it is possible to ascertain is the objective.

Cyber-protests - Cyber-protests -or hacktivism- are all the rage. This new movement was initiated by the Anonymous group and Operation Payback, targeting firstly organizations trying to close the net on Internet piracy. Even users with limited technical know-how can join in the distributed denial of service attacks (DDoS) or spam campaigns. Despite hasty attempts in many countries to pass legislation to counter this type of activity, effectively by criminalizing it, we believe that in 2011 there will be yet more cyber-protests.

Social engineering - In particular, cyber-criminals have found social media sites to be their perfect working environment, as users are even more trusting than with other types of tools, such as email. Throughout 2010 we have witnessed various attacks that have used the two most popular social networks – Facebook and Twitter- as a launch pad. In 2011

We fully expect that not only will hackers continue to use these media, but that they will also be used more for distributed attacks.

Cell phones - It would seem that in 2011 there will be new attacks, but still not on a massive scale. Most of the existing threats target devices with Symbian, an operating system which is now on the wane. It is quite evident that the number of threats for Android will increase considerably throughout the year, becoming the number one target for cyber-crooks. What are your future plans and programs in India?

We will work closely with Cyberstar to grow our channel network geographically within India so that Panda is available in every corner of India through Cyberstar. n

w For CE – our CE range of CinemaStar for AV market for Broadcast and Satellite (Set top Box and DVR) and the Security market (Digital storage for CCTV) would continue to be available up to 2TB. The CinemaStar 5K2000 family features low power, barely audible and reliable line of hard drives, specifically optimized and fine-tuned for the audio/video (A/V) market. What are some of the trends that the industry is going to see in year ahead?

While some may be debating the long term viability of the hard drive, we believe that flash-based devices will complement, and continue to fuel the need for hard drive-based external drives, servers and storage arrays. These flash-based “edge devices,” such as tablets and smartphones, offer limited capacity for storing rich multimedia content such as personal videos and movies. Also, when you think about these edge devices accessing cloud storage or enabling Internet computing, we believe that reliable, ultra high-performance SSDs and capacity-optimized 7,200 RPM HDDs will continue to serve the tiered storage needs of public and private cloud infrastructures.

During the last decade, external hard drives have offered little beyond design changes and simple storage and backup. Understanding the demands of the market, we launched the LifeStudio family. With this launch we broke through the long-established confines of the category and delivered an external drive that combined highly reliable storage and new levels of data protection with automatic content organization, management, socialization and navigation for both local and online content. We also provided customers the freedom and benefit of both local and cloud backup within one single application, making it easy to view, download, and share protected cloud content from any web browser, anywhere.

In 2011 and beyond, you will continue to see Hitachi GST enhance features on our family of external hard drives, while maintaining ease-of-use and offering innovative functionality for new markets, devices and applications. What are your future plans and programs in India?

Hitachi GST is committed to the Indian market, and currently we have strong local support and sales team in India. We see potential growth in India’s storage industry and it will certainly play in Hitachi’s growth. We constantly evaluate and identify opportunities to improve our foothold and operations in India and to strengthen our local team in the market. n

Cloud computing is emerging as a disruptive technology that can potentially turn enterprise computing on its head.

But how much of a barrier to its development and adoption will security concerns be?

There is certain degree of security and privacy risks with Cloud Computing. However, there are certain advantages of Cloud Computing that is influencing Enterprises to opt for Cloud Computing. Some of the major advantages of Cloud Computing include—Cost Advantage, Increased Storage, Highly Automate, Flexibility and Mobility among others. A number of

organizations are looking for a closer and transparent relationship with cloud vendors in risk mitigation. It is important for the cloud service providers to educate the customers on cloud computing services, security and data ownership. A close dialogue with customers will play a critical role in addressing the real concerns over the security, performance and reliability of cloud computing and will help the industry to grow.

CLOuD strategy

What are the security ramifications of moving data and applications in the cloud? Please explain.

There are some common threats that apply across different cloud computing models—Infrastructure as a Service, Platform as a Service and Software as a Service. Some of the security ramifications are abuse and nefarious use of cloud computing, Insecure application programming interfaces, malicious insiders, shared technology vulnerabilities, data loss/leakage, account, service and traffic hijacking and unknown risk profile

Abuse and nefarious use of cloud computing is the top threat identified. In addition, the industry is already experiencing the use of botnets

to spread spam and malware. It is extremely critical for cloud users to be aware of vulnerabilities in shared technologies, such as virtual machines, communications systems or key management technologies. It is also important for organizations to be aware of their service providers’ risk profile. Why is it crucial for customers to know the credentials of the vendors and the extent to which their secu-rity offerings are safe?

It is critical for organizations to fully assess vendors’ security systems, as the most critical element of their businesses—information is in the hands of the service providers. It is also important for them to avoid cloud

lock-in. This will help them to switch providers. This approach will help them to retain control over the company’s IT processes. Beyond the data center, threats lie in connectivity to the cloud. So, it is important to have an end point security mechanism in place. The need of the hour is a smart choice of next-generation technologies, which are both effective and cost-efficient and provide a proven way to prevent unauthorized access to critical data and applications. That is why it is important for enterprises to opt for service providers, who are best equipped. What prospects do you see for deal-ers taking up cloud security?

Cloud Security is providing enormous opportunity for vendors as well as channel partners. In essence, the cloud is very attractive for those that are accountable for IT value optimization and maximization thus these factors determine. That is why it is gaining acceptance in the Indian market and is providing good opportunity for the channel community.Cloud security is an upcoming model, what is being done to create greater awareness about its ben-efits?

An understanding about potential security benefits to be offered by the cloud can help alleviate some of the fears associated with security professionals, auditors, compliance officers and certainly with C-level executives in those organizations where IT governance and risk management has been recognized and practiced at the senior management level.

1. The cloud due to its economies of scale, can bring in the best skilled human resources, potentially increasing the quality of service that it is expected to provide.

2. The cloud can offer the best security safeguards in access controls, data level security, etc. Two-factor authentication, data transmission security using SSL/TLS, encrypted storage of data, etc., can become de facto standards.

3. In an era where applications are increasingly becoming the target for attacks and security breaches, the cloud has the potential to offer secure applications as part of its service. For example, a SaaS vendor is more likely to get its web applications tested at the very least, against the Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) Top Ten Vulnerabilities on a regular

CLOuD strategybasis because they can afford it more easily. It becomes a value proposition, a differentiator against competing vendors and customers are more aware of security risks and demand protection.

4. The cloud can offer certain default disaster recovery capability, while physical and environmental safeguards are a given.

5. Stronger security controls tend to become easily affordable, especially for smaller businesses. The cloud, due to external pressures will be forced to choose the best security vendors and products, and thus potential for packaging best of breed’ solutions along with their services is very high.

6. The security safeguards can be more effective due to periodic scrutiny by multiple customers, as well as independent and in-house auditors.

7. With the increasing adoption of the cloud, private networks converge into the data centers of cloud providers, making it harder for intruders to find and penetrate into vulnerable networks and systems.

8. The cloud tends to provide continuous monitoring of its networks, systems and user activities. This 24x7 operation can be very significant in fortifying preventive as well as detective measures for security violations.

9. The cloud may have the potential to isolate and prevent any malicious activity originating from external sources and malware infections within a single virtual environment. Thus, the cloud can effectively prevent intrusions from spreading to other erstwhile private networks that are part of the cloud now.

10. When it comes to complying with regulations such as SOX, PCI-DSS, etc., companies tend to

get overwhelmed, and sometimes overreach, resulting in a significant waste of resources. Even the scoping of operations and infrastructure for compliance can be a daunting task for many companies. Clouds can help compliance become more standardized for a given regulation and also make it more effective and efficient.Which segment would be the focus point for cloud security in India?

In India enterprise space is going to be the focus point right now. However, as cloud security provides huge cost benefit, it will also be adopted by the SMB companies. What is the buzz for cloud secu-rity among the enterprise market in India?

There is certain degree of security and privacy risks with Cloud Computing. However, there are certain advantages of Cloud Computing that is influencing Enterprises to opt for Cloud Computing. Some of the major advantages of Cloud Computing include—Cost Advantage, Increased Storage, Highly Automate, Flexibility and Mobility among others. A number of organizations are looking for a closer and transparent relationship with cloud vendors in risk mitigation. It is important for the cloud service providers to educate the customers on cloud computing services, security and data ownership. A close dialogue with customers will play a critical role in addressing the real concerns over the security, performance and reliability of cloud computing and will help the industry to grow. Are the vendors able to provide sufficient security through cloud

computing? What needs to be done for further strengthening of the market?

Vendors are providing good amount of security through Cloud Computing but some of the inherent risks are related to data theft, leakage or destruction due to co-location of data, spread of malicious activities and malware infections to multiple customer environments. However, there is also the risk of choosing a low-grade service due to cost limitations. Since cloud is a utility model, cloud consumers may have the tendency to sacrifice security features and offerings in order to reduce the costs further, putting themselves in jeopardy.

Another major challenge commonly found is security awareness among the staff of a cloud provider that has its presence in multiple countries. In these instances, users may find that a provider’s culture, perception of risks and needs for security and privacy vary with local regulations, or the lack there of. The cloud needs to have 24x7 operations to service customers across the globe, and must offer the optimal value to its customers by dynamically pooling and allocating resources, depending upon peak usage & traffic patterns and time of day. The cloud is meant to be in motion constantly and so is your data.

In a typical outsourcing situation, it is easier to locate data within networks of a selected vendor and restrict access to the data. Verifying vendors’ compliance with the contractual requirements and local regulations regarding data protection, etc., are relatively less challenging when compared to a cloud environment where it is hard to restrict the movement of one’s data. n

Business Strategyand ensure profitability. Investment will be mainly on more channel seminars, improving the channel communication network and reaching out to them. We have already made an investment of 5.1 million rupees in January to improve the communication with our top 324 AEC partners. We will also engage in technical training for students in institutes like Jetking and lot of college campus activities where we can expose youngsters to new technology and focus on increasing awareness of the technology in the market and amongst customers and channel partners. We are also now encouraging and developing the gaming segment and professional gamers in the country.

We would recommend our channel partners to focus on SELLING RIGHT, SELLING MORE, ensuring the right product mix to maintain profitability and providing right value to their customers. Also they need to keep up with all the new product developments and learn about the new changes in the industry.

We wish to consolidate and help increase our partner’s profitability by giving them the tools and training of earning their front end, we would create the desired pull for the products. What do you do to strengthen the channel community? Do you have any channel engagement for program?

We have our channel meets at all major cities and some upcountry locations also to regularly update the channel about

new products and their features. We have also recently started our ASUS Business Connect initiative mentioned earlier at the beginning of the year where we’ve installed Skype videphones in 324 partner locations in India in C,D and E class cities to further improve communication with our partners. What are some of the trends that the industry is going to see in year ahead?

GIGABYTE’s cutting edge 8 phase power VRM design utilizes the highest caliber components to provide unadulterated, smooth power to the CPU. The innovative 8 phase power VRM has been designed and engineered to deliver fast transient response times through quick and seamless power delivery during extensive CPU loading variations. In addition, heat from the VRM is effectively reduced by spreading the load between the 8 power phases, resulting in a cooler, more stable platform. Dual CPU Power Technology

Imagine a workstation class redundant (duplicated) power design on a desktop motherboard. GIGABYTE’s proprietary Dual CPU Power Technology allows CPU VRM power phases to split evenly into 2 sets of power engines that operate in tandem. This allows 1 set of power phases to rest while the other is active, as opposed to a traditional power design, where all the power phases are always active. As such GIGABYTE Dual CPU Power effectively halves the amount of work done by each set of power phases to significantly increase motherboard durability and reliability.
