CONCERT BY CANDLELIGHT 2017
Welcome to this evening’s concert. We are excited to be holding it at a new local venue,
St Barnabas Church, and we hope you enjoy the variety of performances presented to you
by the pupils, who have worked so hard in preparation for tonight’s event.
We hope you enjoy the pre-concert festive performances from the Bolingbroke Brass Ensemble!
CAROL: O Little Town of Bethlehem Accompanied by Senior Band
1. O little town of Bethlehem
How still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight.
2. Lyrics written by Florence Scott, Klein 1:
Winner of the House Christmas Carol Competition!
O little school of Bolingbroke
In Wandsworth where you lie
With points to win and loving kin
We boldly walk on by
Our greyhound badges shineth
From morning until night
The hopes and fears when exams are near
Are here with us tonight.
3. How silently, how silently
The wondrous gift is given
So God imparts to human hearts
The blessings of His heaven
No ear may hear His coming
But in this world of sin
Where meek souls will receive him still
The dear Christ enters in.

And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from
Cæsar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. And all went to be
taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee,
out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the city of David, which is
called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) to
be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was,
that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be
delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in
swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for
them in the inn.
1. [Instrumental]
2. It came upon the midnight clear,
That glorious song of old,
From angels bending near the earth,
To touch their harps of gold:
“Peach on the earth, goodwill to men,
From heaven’s all-gracious King.”
The world in solemn stillness lay,
To hear the angels sing.
~~ 20 minute Interval ~~
Festive refreshments are included in your ticket price and will be
served at the back of the church!
CAROL: O Come All Ye Faithful Accompanied by Year 10 GCSE Music Ensemble
1. O Come all ye faithful
Joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem.
Come and behold Him,
Born the King of Angels;
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.
2. God of God,
Light of Light,
Lo! He abhors not the Virgin’s womb;
Very God, Begotten, not created:
O come, let us adore Him...
3. O Sing, choirs of angels,
Sing in exultation,
Sing all that hear in heaven God's holy word.
Give to our Father glory in the Highest;
O come, let us adore Him...

There were shepherders camping in the neighbourhood. They had
set night watches over their sheep. Suddenly, God’s angel stood
among them and God’s glory blazed around them. They were
terrified. The angel said, “Don’t be afraid. I’m here to announce a
great and joyful event that is meant for everybody, worldwide: A
Saviour has just been born in David’s town, a Saviour who is Messiah
and Master. This is what you’re to look for: a baby wrapped in a
blanket and lying in a manger.”
CAROL: Away in a Manger Accompanied by Senior Band
Trepak (Russian Dance) from The Nutracker (Tchaikovsky) Senior Band
White Christmas (Irving Berlin, accompaniment arr. J Alexander) Senior Band
and Senior Choir
CAROL: We Wish You A Merry Christmas Accompanied by Senior Band
Merry Christmas and a safe journey home!
1. Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,
The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head.
The stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay,
The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.
2. The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,
But little Lord Jesus, no crying he makes.
I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky
And stay by my cradle ‘til morning is nigh.
3. Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever, and love me, I pray.
Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care,
And take us to heaven, to live with Thee there.
We wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year
Good tidings we bring
To you and your kin
We wish you a Merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year!
