LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE

Dear prospective external delegate/competitor,

We hope that this finds you well! The Queen’s Commerce Soci-ety is one of the largest business societies in Canada, with its home in Kingston, Ontario. Over the years, our External Portfolio has grown rapidly, and it is currently comprised of 15 conferences and competi-tions. These events are open not only to our students, but students from across Canada and all over the world! There are spots for external del-egates/competitors at all of these events, and we strongly encourage you to take a few moments to read through this package and learn a little bit more about them. Whether your interests lie in entrepreneurship, finance, or leadership, you’ll be sure to find something for yourself at Queen’s!

In addition to being phenomenal learning experiences, external events at Queen’s are a great opportunity to network with both other students and recruiters. In total, the Commerce Society received just over $400,000 in sponsorship in the past year to help make the events more affordable for you, and there is representation from a significant number of the top professional service firms and Fortune 500 com-panies at our events. We hope that you see this as an opportunity to broaden your experience and learning, in addition to further your ca-reer opportunities. From providing students with networking opportunities and stimulating case com-petitions, to enriching their university experience through education workshops and social events, the Queen’s Commerce Society (ComSoc for short) and its wide offering of conferences and competitions plays a major role in the undergraduate experience of a student. We pride our-selves for being the most innovative and expansive when it comes to conference opportunities through our eleven annual conferences and four annual competi-tions. QBETQUEEN’S CONFERENCE ON THE BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT TODAYFounded in 1977, Queen’s Conference on the Business Environment Today is proud to hold the designation of “First Student-Lead Business Conference in Canada”. QBET is held annually in Kingston and will be taking place from Oct 30th-Nov 1st this year. QBET’s mission is to serve as a forum at which the na-tion’s brightest business students are brought together with industry leaders to discuss the most pressing global issues affecting the business world today.

QUEEN’S BUSINESS FORUM ON THE FASHION INDUSTRY The Queen’s Business Forum on the Fashion Industry (QBFFI) is a unique student run conference that focuses on the business behind the fashion industry. The first of its kind of Canada, this year QBFFI is celebrating its 10-year anniversary in luxury. Hosting bright delegates from across Canada, QBFFI gives attendees the opportunity to network with some of the best in the fashion world. This conference helps delegates think criti-cally about innovative business ideas that appeal to the world of fashion through panel discussions, a corporate case challenge, and a variety of

COMMERCE & ENGINEERING ENVIRONMENTAL CONFERENCE The Commerce & Engineering Environmental Conference (CEEC) is an annual conference that highlights the diversity of the emerging green sector and the integral ties between Business, Engineering, and Arts & Science required to build a more sustainable world. Formed in 1991 by Queen’s students from the School of Business and the Faculty of Applied Science, CEEC is embodied by a group of students with a passion for sus-tainability and the environment. CEEC aims to make the case for sustain-ability through a multidisciplinary response by showing how technology and innovation can be used to create responsible, sustainable, and success-

QUEEN’S MARKETING ASSOCIATION CONFERENCEEntering into our 30th year, the Queen’s Marketing Association Conference (QMAC) is Canada’s premiere student run marketing conference. Every January, this jam-packed conference brings together 130 of Canada’s bright-est future marketers from across the country, the industry’s top corporate partners, and iconic speakers. Throughout the conference corporate leaders share insights, challenges and passion for marketing with tomorrow’s leaders. In whatever capacity marketing touches you; QMAC is a conference you will not want to miss. We’re extremely excited for what QMAC has to offer and can’t wait to meet you.

QUEEN’S SPORTS INDUSTRY CONFERENCE If you have a passion for sports and business, The Queen’s Sports Industry Conference (QSIC) is the first step to attaining your dream job. Every January, QSIC unites 120 of North America’s most ambitious aspiring sports industry professionals for a weekend of education, inspiration, and unique opportunity. QSIC delegates have the opportunity to learn from successful industry leaders, participate in a one-of-a-kind free agency simulation, present case solutions to sports-industry organizations, network with industry professionals, and develop practical industry skills via interactive workshops.

QUEEN’S WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE The Queen’s Women in Leadership Conference (Q.WIL) continues to strive towards empowering young women to pursue success in the professional world. The conference provides an unparalleled opportunity for delegates, sponsors and speakers to connect and celebrate the achievements of women in leader-ship. In addition to the conference itself, Q.WIL boasts an established mentor-ship program which links young female leaders with accomplished profes-sionals. The program is accompanied by an annual brunch held in October at Toronto’s Fairmont Royal York Hotel. Q.WIL takes place annually in November in Kingston with a line-up of inspiring speakers, panel sessions, interactive workshops, networking opportunities, and exciting evening socials.

QUEEN’S FINANCE ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE The Queen’s Finance Association Conference is Canada’s first and premier undergraduate conference focused on the financial services industry. Every November, QFAC hosts 100 undergraduate students from across North America at the Royal York Fairmont in the heart of Toronto’s financial district. Over the 4 days, students participate in interactive workshops, luncheons and a rigorous M&A simulation challenge. The conference is well respected and represented by all North American firms.

QUEEN’S CONFERENCE ON INTERNATIONAL BUSINESSThe global economy is continuously evolving, international relationships continue to shape the economic forum, and individuals, more so than ever, are shaping the way organizations approach international business. QCIB is the medium through which this impact is passed on to students across the across Canada and beyond. Hosted in downtown Toronto, the four day conference provides delegates with the opportunity to interact with professionals in the industry, participate in engaging competitions and simulations, and hear from some of the world’s most influential and diverse business leaders. As Canada’s premier international busi-ness conference and the 2014 Commerce Society Conference of the Year, QCIB continues to expand its reach and expose its delegates to the ever-evolving world of international business.

QUEEN’S SELF-EVALUATIVE LEARNING FORUMWelcome to the Goodes life: full of exciting opportunities with a dash of in-evitable challenges to help you succeed. Wait, but what does “success” mean to you? If you don’t know yet, do not fear because QSELF is here to provide an informative and interactive conference to help you do just that! Ground-ed by the ideas of self-awareness and continuous growth, QSELF is aimed to provide delegates with the opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge through inspirational speakers, interactive workshops, and interaction with sponsorship representatives on how to define their own success. Our vision is to provide an interactive conference that allows students to discover what it is that they truly want out of business; redefining the conventional and limited views of success. Look for the QSELF lion to learn more!

QUEEN’S COMMERCE AUTOMOTIVE REPRESENTATIVES QCAR was established in January 2014 with the mission of providing students with learning and employment opportunities in the automotive industry. It is the first commerce related student-run automotive association in Canada and plans to engage students, sponsors and speakers from across the country. QCAR’s conference will be held at Queen’s School of Business as well as at the Marriot Residence Inn in Kingston, Ontario. The conference will feature interactive workshops, keynote speakers, a case competition along with dinners and evening social events. Ultimately, QCAR broadens the industry representation available to students, provides recruiting op-portunities for both summer and full-time positions as well as provides a platform for students to learn from industry professionals. Keep an eye out for QCAR news and get excited for their tasters and conference.

INTER-COLLEGIATE BUSINESS COMPETITIONThe Inter-Collegiate Business Competition (I.C.B.C.) is one of Canada’s premier undergraduate business case competitions and features competitors from across Canada and around the world. In previous years, I.C.B.C. has seen the following: 8 different competitive events, 20+ corporate sponsors, 30+ industry professional judges, and 40+ competing schools reigning from 5 of the 7 continents. The I.C.B.C. executive team also organizes hosts Queen’s Case Competition (QCC) – a FREE case competition for Queen’s Commerce students in all years. Take ad-vantage of the workshops and networking events, while gaining first-hand expe-rience solving cases and presenting in front of esteemed industry professionals.

QUEEN’S COMMERCE CORPORATE COMPETITIONAs Canada’s premier undergraduate business case competition, the Queen’s Commerce Corporate Competition (Q3C) provides the unique opportunity for passionate, driven and high-achieving students to explore the realm of business strategy. Q3C remains unprecedented in its boldness, innovation, and unpre-dictability through pairing our famous case round twists with a realistic busi-ness world simulation. The Queen’s Commerce Corporate Competition is one of the most extensive case competitions in Canada. The dynamic competition aims to foster relationships between our talented competitors and valued partners. In helping shape the next generation of business leaders, Q3C focuses on develop-ing and honing critical skills through its challenging events and fast-paced case round twists.

QUEEN’S ENTERPRENEURSHIP COMPETITIONThe New York Times calls the QEC “one of the longest-running and best-known undergraduate business plan competitions in the world” and each year the competition receives numerous business plan submissions from around the globe. The top 15 teams are selected and invited to Kingston to present their business plans to a panel of Canadian business leaders. There are over $30,000 worth of prizes awarded in throughout the final weekend, having a top prize of $15,000. The QEC final weekend never fails to foster a vibrant exchange of ideas, unparalleled innovation, and the beginnings of new relationships.

DECA QUEEN’SDECA Queen’s is a student-run committee founded in 2000, and ratified as a member of both ComSoc and AMS. Heading into our 15th year at Queen’s, DECA has connected thousands of students across Ontario and Quebec through our conference, and helped them grow and develop as professionals. DECA’s Queen’s alumnus now work across different industries for companies such as CPPIB, Boston Consulting Group, Goldman Sachs, Johnson & Johnson, and Bain & Company. We believe when remarkable people comes together, remarkable things happen, and we strive to provide an accessible forum for students across Ontario.

LET'S TALKThere is a plethora of events at Queen’s - whether it’s a conference or a competition. Conferences enables students to learn more about certain topics - whether that be sports, fashion, marketing or international business, just to name a few. Conferences and other topic-specific networking events can facilitate the opportunity to meet re-cruiters from particular fields. Queen’s prides itself in having one of the most expan-sive reach in recruiters at our events ranging from the big four accounting firms, to the big five Canadian banks, and much more. Each competition and conference has its unique value to offer. Students can showcase their knowledge and apply material from the classroom and participate in these interactive competitions. They are also a great way to get to know other students from various backgrounds. Join Queen’s and experience unique networking opportunities with other students and recruiters, and stimulating challenges. We take great pride in our conferences and competitions here at Queen’s and we would love for you to join us!
