DoD Continuing Education Program Requirements for Baseline Certifications (such as SECURITY+, NETWORK+, A+ ) NOTE: It is the responsibility of each person to keep track of the continuing education program units and ensure that all requirements are met to maintain their certification! 1. All personnel (Civilian, Contractor, and Military) are required to release certifications to DoD. 2. Go to https://www.dmdc.osd.mil/appj/dwc/index.jsp a. Click ok. b. Click on “CAC Login” c. Type in your PIN when asked. d. Click on the “Authorize the Release of Your Personal Certification Qualifications.” e. If you have already released your certification, it will appear under the “My Certifications” and it will list an expiration date. f. If you have not released your certification, select the provider. i. Check the box for “I authorize the release of my certification information to DoD. ii. Type in the Career ID as it appears on your certificate. iii. Type in your First Name EXACTLY as it appears on your certification. iv. Type in your Last Name EXACTLY as it appears on your certification. v. Click “Send the above entry to COMPTIA” or whatever the organization is. vi. Check status at least once a week until certification has bee n verified. 3. DoD will pay for Military and Government Civilian annual maintenance fees. Contractor fees will NOT be paid by DoD. 4. Annual Maintenance Fees are currently: a. Security+ $49 b. Network+ $49 c. A+ $25 5. Continuing Education Program: Military and Government Civilians must enroll in the continuing education program and meet the requirements or take the examination every 3 years. 5. Continuing Education Program: Military and Government Civilians must enroll in the continuing education program and meet the requirements or take the examination every 3 years. If you were certified by 31 December 2010, you must enroll in the continuing education program NLT 31 December 2011 and complete the requirements to maintain your certification. If you do not enroll in the continuing education program by 31 December 2011, you must retake the certification exam.

a. How to Enroll:i. Go to https://www.certmetrics.com/CompTIA/login.aspx

ii. Use your CompTIA Career ID (located on your certificate; COMP0000000) You must put the letters COMP in the block along with the number. If you do not know your CompTIA career ID, you may be able to find it on our ATCTS profile OR you can click the

iii. For the password follow prompts as appropriate.iv. It may tell you that you need to update your setting before you can continue.v. Click on “Continuing Education“ (in red bar across the top of page)

vi. Click on “Enroll” (red letters under red bar)

vii. Click on Enroll button.viii. Click on “Code of Ethics Policy” (red letters under red bar)

ix. Carefully read the code of ethics.x. Check boxes “I am at least 18 years old” and “Agree to Policy”

xi. Click Submit.xii. If you are Military or a Government Civilian, you MUST be verified by DoD at the DMDC website

to go any further to get the continuing education credits. If you are a contractor, you must pay the Maintenance Fees to go further.

xiii. Education requirements:1. Security+: 50 CPEs every 3 years 2. Network+: 30 CPEs every 3 years 3. A+: 20 CPEs ever y 3 years

b. Add Continuing Education Activitiesi. Log into CompTIA website: https://www.certmetrics.com/CompTIA/login.aspx

ii. Click on Continuing Education Unitsiii. Select the Continuing Education Requirements Item you want to addiv. Enter Units. Units are determined per the number of hours (see below)v. Enter Activity Completion Date

vi. Add any commentsvii. Documentation Language: That this the language the documentation is written in; usually

English.viii. Documentation (you must upload proof of attendance). All uploaded documents need to be .jpg

or .gif and zipped in .zip file. There is a maximum upload size of a 1 Mb Zip file. The following items count as continuing education units:College Course (3+ Credit Hour) is 10 Units.Event/Seminar/Conference Attendance (1 unit per hour) ( Example: Attendance at IMO/IT Meeting or AFCEA meeting would count as 1 CPE)Presenting/Lecturing (1 unit per hour)Presenting: Materials Creation ( 2 units per hour)Publishing: Article/White Paper (4+ Pages) is 4 units.Publishing: Blog 1000+ words is 1 unit.Teaching: Lecturing/Presenting (1 unit per hour)Teaching: Materials Creation (2 units per hour)Training: Non-Degree or CAQC-Approved (1 unit per hour)Work Experience (3 units per year)
