In this tutorial we will be creating a custom composite wall for a project. Go to the PULL DOWN MENU and select OPTIONS and then ELEMENT ATTRIBUTES and then COMPOSITES.

CLICK the ARROW

This displays a LISTING of

EXISTING custom wall skins.

SELECT or CLICK on BRICK MAS +6” BLOCK + GYP.

Notice that this WALL SKIN has several components and the first one is HIGHLITED. EDIT. This displays the current features of the component selected. We are going to change the SKIN THICKNESS to 8” (be sure to put in inches as the program DEFAULTS to FEET). Select SKIN PATTERN and CHANGE to 04 BLOCK MASONRY known as CMU.

3

SELECT the 2ND SKIN for EDITING. Under EDIT change SKIN THICKNESS to 3-1/2” and the SKIN PATTERN to 12.5 FILL. This will represent a 3-1/2” WOOD FRAME WALL.

SELECT the NEXT SKIN and then SELECT CLEAR as we will not need that component. Do the same for the NEXT SKIN.

On the LAST skin we will EDIT it to REPRESENT gypsum board. Edit the WIDTH to be ½” and the SKIN PATTERN to be AIR SPACE or no hatching or fill.

We did all this work, now we want to save it to use on our project. Go to DUPLICATE as we want to keep the original wall we selected and NAME our CUSTOM WALL: A-WALL EXT-CMU/FURR CLICK: OK The COMPONENTS skin is COMPLETE.

Now we will use the new SKIN we created to create FAVORITE wall STYLE.

DOUBLE CLICK ON WALL to bring up WALL SETTINGS. Change HEIGHT to 8’ and then the THICKNESS TO 1’. This is where the fun begins. SELECT CUT/FILL and look for your NEW SKIN to apply to this wall. Go to FAVORITES and then SAVE CURRENT SETTINGS – NAME the WALL as shown at right. Favorites are a way of CUSTOMIZING the program. It is also useful to STANDARDIZE on a specific WALL for everyone working on the project. You can also customize ROOFS and SLABS with custom SKINS. This is a wall for a new project we are doing and the older existing wall type did not exist.

Select OK.

Using the WALL TOOL - DRAW a WALL. Be sure and CONGRATULATE yourself on creating this new awesome WALL STYLE.

Lesson is complete. This tutorial Quick Start was created with the able assistance of Stan Connick, AIA. Adjunct instructor for the Fountain Hills USD.
