The city’s terrestrial, aquatic and marine biodiversity, ecosystems and their ecological processes are conserved within a connected network of natural areas. 6. Nature conservation is achieved through partnerships that promote, research, invest in, and coordinate the management of the city’s biodiversity. 1.3 – We have sustainable solid and liquid waste disposal. We innovate to maximise recycling and reduce waste. $3,000 upper limit $10,000 upper limit for wildlife carer organisations Culture, history & heritage (including community events) Projects, events and activities that contribute to the achievement of the City’s desired outcomes for history, cultural heritage and the arts. 3.4 Our city embraces culture every day We are a creative community. Culture Strategy 2023 strategic outcomes: 1. Our culture is distinctly Gold Coast Signature events and festivals that highlight our outdoor lifestyle and natural environment. A richness of cultural experiences that celebrate and express our diversity. A constellation of local villages celebrated for their distinct cultural characteristics. 2. A place where culture is everyday More residents actively participating in arts and culture. Cultural places and creative spaces woven into the fabric of Gold Coast life – local, accessible, integrated and humming with opportunity. Our culturally diverse population expressing their culture and connecting with the broader community. 3. A community that values its cultural heritage Our built heritage and character-rich places are conserved and where appropriate adapted to contemporary needs. Residents accessing our cultural and heritage collections and places to understand our history and local stories. Greater recognition and promotion of our Indigenous heritage and culture. An active and sustainable network of heritage organisations and museums. $25,000 upper limit for major projects $5,000 upper limit for minor projects

Safe city

Projects, events and activities that contribute to the achievement of the City’s desired outcomes for community safety, including perceptions of safety and a positive city image, emergency response services and beach safety.

3.1 Our city is safe We feel secure and confident in our communities.

Mission of the Mayoral Safer Suburbs Forum – to initiate and deliver actions to improve safety in the City of Gold Coast for residents, visitors, businesses and international students.

$75,000 upper limit for major emergency response projects

$5,000 upper limit for minor safety related projects

Active community

Projects, events and activities that contribute to the achievement of the City’s desired outcomes for participation in community sport, recreation, physical activity and wellness initiatives. *Preference is given to ongoing sustainable activities that positively impact the physical activity levels and wellbeing of residents. Funding for trophies and merchandise are considered ineligible projects.

3.6 We are an active and healthy community We enjoy our city and its enviable climate. Sports Plan Vision 2023 The Gold Coast is Australia’s most active city, recognised internationally as a leading sport and recreation destination. 2. Active and healthy community To grow participation in sport and recreation within the city and lead the way in becoming Australia’s most active and healthy, sport and lifestyle city. Targets: Increase the number of Gold Coast residents

sufficiently active for a health benefit by 15 per cent by 2023.

Increase the number of activities offered through the Active & Healthy Program by 25 per cent.

Increase community participation in the Active & Healthy Program by 50 per cent.

$3,000 upper limit

Community capacity building (including Seniors Week activities)

Projects, events and activities that contribute to the achievement of the City’s desired community capacity building outcomes and a strong sense of belonging for all residents.

3.3 Our community is inclusive and supportive We are a diverse community where everyone is welcome, families thrive and people know their neighbours. Seniors Week (only) - objectives include, reducing social isolation and building networks for seniors across the city; promoting healthy ageing and positive attitudes to ageing and seniors; and building capacity of organisations that support seniors.

$5,000 upper limit Seniors Week $500 upper limit for individual organisations or $1,000 if working with another organisation
