Fish Camp – Brainstorming Meeting April 25th 2012 at the Gitaus Admin Building 7:30 pm A group of Kitselas members are partnering with the Kitselas Lands Office, Employment and Social Development Departments to put on a ‘Fish Camp’ this summer from July 22 – July 29.  Part of the project is to build community smokehouses in Gitaus. We would like to have a public meeting about where to build the community smokehouses, how to pay for them, what they should look like and who can become involved. If you would like to get involved, please make sure to join us or call Sonja for more details: 250.635.8882 ext 232

Job Opportunity: Youth Drop In Coordinator

Location: 1 Permanent Full Time Position- maximum 35 hours per week Wages: Competitive Start Date: As soon as possible

This is a leadership role in the development and delivery of all contracted services. The Youth Drop-In Coordinator reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for planning, developing, implementing and evaluation of the Program. The Youth Drop-In Coordinator facilitates the youth's participation in existing programs in order to improve their economic, social and employability skills. RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage team operations

Complete deliverables or programming on time in accordance with relevant funding agreements

Complete programming on-budget and without financial penalty

Develop, implement and facilitate workshops with youth direction and participation;

Assist in facilitating and implementing health and wellness, communication, job searching, goal setting, budgeting, nutrition and assisting in obtaining housing;

STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS

Diploma in social and/or health science field;

Knowledge and experience of Aboriginal culture and practices.

Knowledge of the Aboriginal peoples and history in northwest B.C. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Experience working in an environment directly with at risk youth

Proficient facilitation skills

Excellent organizational and time management skills

Computer skills: Windows, Microsoft Office, Outlook

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS

Subject to two Criminal record checks

Sign a code of ethics and a confidentiality agreement

Prepares and submits monthly activity reports to the Executive Director

Ensures that reporting requirements of the funding agency are met, with copies provided to the Executive Director

Reporting requirements according to BC Association of Friendship Centres (BCAAFC)

Valid Driver’s License, reliable vehicle and clean drivers abstract

Able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends

Drug and Alcohol free role model

RESPONSIBLITIES

Model and Provide direct clinical services through one-on-one and group work education/training in the areas of parenting, homemaking, life skills, budgeting, stress management, problem solving, conflict resolution, effective communication, and social skills enhancement;

Act as a liaison between clients and appropriate community services and resources.

Supervise visits between children in care and their families, as directed by social workers, according to the Child’s Plan of Care

Participate in Integrated Case Management meetings and other related

Client Transportation as required

Community Service Work

STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS

Diploma in social and/or health science field;

At least 2 years work experience in an environment working directly with children and families

Knowledge and experience of Aboriginal culture and practices.

Knowledge of the Ministry of Children & Family Development’s Child & Family Services procedures

Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Demonstrated skills in report writing, statistical tracking and documentation, and preparing correspondence.

Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills

Required monthly and annual reporting directly to Family Skills Program Manager

Valid BC drivers license and safe driving record (provide Driver’s Abstract)
