Date:May 31, 2014

Brother Kerr

Programs:Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:Learn to Use Photoshop layers, and blend Images. Use typography principles well in the project.

Process:I cropped the background image to 8.5×11.

I used a bubble background, I added the 6 fish and then I capped the image with another image with only a few bubbles.

On the blue fish I lowered the opacity and blended the sides using a black paint brush.

With the bubble image I placed on top I multiplied the image with the background and blended it with a brush.

I cropped 4 of the fish and put them with the background.

With the perana fish I used a background that made it blend to the background behind it

Description: Logo ideas for King Mountain Ranch. (A nice place for reunions and lodging in the Arco area)

Programs:Illustrator

Objectives:Apply the design principles using illustrator. Design Three logos for a company.

Process: For the first two images I used triangles that I manipulated only slightly. I placed the triangles behind them like a shadow. Using the Pathfinder tool I was able to subtract the green triangles from the shadow triangles leaving me with my first two logo ideas. The second logo needed to have a little more to it so I made white triangles to cut out the mountains like a white shadow. The results, as you can see, were very cool, and smooth looking. I modified all the angles to make sure that they looked sharp. The last image was made by a combination of black and white shapes and lines. I used the shape builder tool to cut out the lines and make that small hill indenture at the bottom of the cabin. I used the type on a path tool to create the interesting curves in the text.

Programs:Adobe InDesign

Objectives: Create a flier using principles of desing using InDesign.

Process:I sketched examples for my flier. I used of of the sketches to create this layout in Adobe InDesign. Using black squares for repetition, I used lines and petterns to draw attention to the big ideas leading gradually inward to the text information. I also emphasized the sentence of the competitive edge. I used white space to separate the ideas and font size to create a heirarchy. I was given the image, logo, and content for this flier.

BrochureDescription:A tri-fold brochure.

Date:July 13, 2014

Course/Instructor:Comm 130

Brother Kerr

Programs:Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign

Objectives:Set up a folded brochure in Indesign using principles of design. Have a full bleed picture. Make a photoshop cutuout and text wrap around an image. Use paragraph styles.

Process:I began the project by setting up a format in InDesign. Using gridlines, I made a guide for my folds to be divided into three parts. I created a number of images in illustrator. I made a cherry and a soda pop as repetition and symbols of the business. I also made a logo with the name of the business on it. I placed these images in spots where they would capture attention throughout the brochure.

For the soda I used the simple shapes to replicate the shape of a soda glass bottle. I lowered the opacity to give the appearance of glass and soda. I made the soda bubbles the way I imagined them and placed them randomly. The Ice was traced from the original soda image. The cherries were completely from my imagination, without reference. I simply used a circle. Added points on it and gave it a rounded heart like shape. I then used the pen tool to create the stem, as well as the highlights and shadows on the cherry. I used an image online to make the whipped cream shape, and placed the existing cherry on it. I typed words inside and used simple shapes and the bubbles I created for soda fizz. All of these images were saved as Illustrator documents and uploaded to my In Design file.

I used a photo of a girl in Photoshop using the polygon lasso tool to outline the parts that I wanted and masked the rest. I saved it as a Photoshop document and placed it in my In Design file. I created a text wrap for it. I used Paragraph styles to keep my text consistent.

Description:A webpage created to showcase a business logo

Programs:TextWrangler & Photoshop

Objectives:Size a logo in a web page. Write content in the webpage describing the logo in html form. Use css to change headings, typography and color.

Process:I used text wrangler to create an html and css codes for my webpage. I learned to code from the help of my teachers and examples that they provided for me. The html codes allowed me to write what I wanted, to make bullet points, bold the text and to make text appear in my chosen font size. The html was the central document where I created links the images and to created links to the css document and the css document codes, the logo image and the hyperlink. The css code document allowed me to select font types, color schemes, and to change spacing within the document.

Using a html and css template I was able to write everything as I wanted it. The colors that I chose came from my logo. Using the eye drop tool from photoshop, I selected the colors that made up my background, the heading background and the font color. I was able to make the document resemble the photo that I wanted by choosing font types and sizes that I felt were appropriate.

Programs:Microsoft Word, Epson Scanner

Objectives:Scan a magazine image and put it in an event ad using microsoft word.

Process:Using the image I scanned from “Guns & Ammo” magazine, I made flyer using word. When I inserted the image, there were letters in the bottom corner. I got rid of them by cropping the image. I added text boxes with a dark shade of grey to make a high contrast background. I used bold fonts to give the image a strong and purposeful theme. I used the Epson perfection V600 Photo scanner for my image.

Brother Kerr

Programs:Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.

Objectives:Create a logo for a business. Design the business card using Illustrator and InDesign.

Process:I created the logo by using images off of google for trees for reference. I mirrored the cabin image and combined the shapes using the shape builder tool. On the cabin and the trees I changed the width profile to give the lines character. I placed the images in photoshop and used the original reference image to texture the image I created in illustrator using the opacity tool and by using the overlay background tool. I saved them as a png and put them back into Indesign.

I changed the tint of the pine trees slightly from the letterhead. I placed the logo and the company name in the document.

Programs:Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.

Objectives:Create a logo for a company and design a letterhead using skills in Illustrator and Indesign.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills):I created the logo by using images off of google for trees for reference. I lowered the opacity on the pine tree back ground and I made a wash for my cover letter using one of the pine trees that I created earlier.

In my letterhead I positioned the cabin logo in front of my title. I made a box in the bottom left corner with contact information. I used a pine tree background for the logo and the company name. I used a wash of the pine tree I created earlier. I combined the line with the fonts in Adobe illustrator and then I brought the image to indesign.
