Comics and New Age Outlook
Meta Description: The comic world has become versatile essentially portraying the characters and
issues of real life and society simultaneously masking its reality with drama and exaggeration.
Summary: Every component of comic narration whether it is in books or cartoon animations we will be
able to sight evolution and change as per the demands of the age.
This genre of pictorial story telling where in the stories are narrated through graphics is especially loved
and adored by young kids. They grow up idolizing, identifying and befriending these comic heroes and
soak their exciting adventures like a sponge for gratifying their juvenile need for sensation and action.
The comic industry is quick to discern this demand and identify the target audience for this breed of
books and therefore it is hardly a wonder when we see the rampant burgeoning of the concept of comic
book store in order to cater to their soaring demand. Gradually, with the pace of time these book stores
have also diversified its offerings by providing the cartoon dolls, video games, the accessories, gears and
costumes of these comic superheroes instead of limiting themselves to merely selling books.
There are conflicting views and opinions regarding the benefic and malefic traits of modern comics.
Although the comic potpourri sells like hot cakes and are in vogue essentially for the child
entertainment, its impact on child psychology is under a lot of scrutiny and analysis. One school of
thought contends that the violence and aggression exhibited through this type of narrations beget a lot
of negative influences in the child. They are too young to see through the reason of the violence and
might spontaneously infer that fighting, beating up and use of arms and ammunitions are the only way
of combating your opponents and enemies. However, there is another school of thought who believes in
the educative and therapeutic impact of cartoon and comic artistry on child psychology. In fact idolizing
a comic metro hero also simultaneously elicits the child’s cognizance of the selfless acts of the hero, his
struggles and his relentless endeavours to overcome his difficulties, temptations and challenges in order
to foster peace, security and well being for society. In a tacit way these comic stories consistently harp
on the themes of justice and law which will eventually reign supreme over evil deeds and finally restore
social order by defeating the sinister forces.
