Jared stands at the front of his locked front door; eager to be home from school. He knocks energetically to be let inside his home. He shouts, drawing out his words “I’m ho----ome!” No one answers. He crouches down with his hands over his face. The air is brisk and stings his bare skin. Chimney smoke waffles up his nostrils. He peers about; here, there, and everywhere wondering if his family is outside, maybe just around the corner. “Hello?” he questions thinking that he hears a noise, someone, in the backyard. There was no response, so Jared decides to crawl through the cat door and after doing so, he runs to his bedroom, wanting to see his crazy cat, Felix. The first thing he always does. He finds Felix under the bed, only his long, striped tail poking out from the comforter. “Thanks for the big ‘welcome’!”

Jared stands at the front of his locked front door; eager to be home from school. He knocks energetically to be let inside his home.

He shouts, drawing out his words “I’m ho----ome!”No one answers.

“Thanks for the big ‘welcome’!” he sarcastically tells his big orange and brown Tom Cat.

“You’re letting in COLD AIR,” replies Felix wishing that Jared would just climb on into the covers with him and pet his cold body like he so often did after school. “Purrrr—fect.”
