MISSION STATEMENT Columbia Art Center is dedicated to providing artisticexperiences in the visual arts for all ages and interest levels and to join with local artsorganizations and community businesses in creating diverse offerings.

OVERVIEWColumbia Art Center offers year-round art classes, rotating galleryexhibitions, a gallery gift shop, summer art camp for children, art birthday parties,studio rentals, a Japanese Garden, art and life enhancement lectures, and more! Columbia Art Center is part of Columbia Association’s Community ServicesDivision. Under Columbia Association, Columbia Art Center is 28 years old. It has been a functioning arts school for more than 30 years and was formerlyknown as the Antioch Visual Arts College.

LOCATION Columbia Art Center is located in the Long Reach Village Center(next to Stonehouse Community Center) just minutes from Route 175 and TamarDrive.

DIRECTIONS From Route 29, take 175 East towards Jessup. Follow 175 forseveral miles to the light at Tamar Drive. Turn left on Tamar and go one mile. Turn right on Cloudleap Court. Turn left into Long Reach Village Center parkinglot. Art Center is located in the courtyard past the fountain (look for large roundwindow). From I-95, take the MD 100 West exit (43B) towards Ellicott City. Take the Snowden River exit (3). Enter the roundabout and take the second exitonto Snowden River Parkway. Turn right on Tamar Drive and drive .5 miles. Turn left at Cloudleap Court. Park in the Long Reach Village Center lot on left.Columbia Art Center is located in courtyard beyond the fountain (look for largeround window).

RENTALSColumbia Art Center rentals are available in our art galleries,studio rooms and Japanese garden. Enjoy a unique setting filled with originalart for your next event. Art displays change regularly. Our rooms accommodate bridal and baby

showers, corporate meetings, art and craft group meetings, lectures, art project rentals, birthday

parties and celebrations of all sorts, even small weddings. Columbia Art Center provides tables and

chairs. Room setup and take down are responsibility of renter. Please allow set-up and take-down

time in your rental timeframe. For an additional fee, Columbia Art Center can set up room.

Catering is not provided by Columbia Art Center. Please call Columbia Art Center at 410-730-0075

Susan Kieffer, aWilton Method Instructor, will lead you every step of theway as you create amazing hand shaped flowers, and artfulbows out of fondant. Course includes learning how to makea fondant mum, rose, carnation, calla lily, rosebud, daisy, andleaves. You will finish the course by showcasing your skills inthe design and decoration of your own cake! Begin withclassroom studies of basic proportion and careful observation toachieve likeness and form. NEW! Columbia Art Center is excited toannounce a class especially designed for childrenwith different abilities. Art is all positive as thereis no right or wrong way; it’s a form of self-expression. Each class will provide a small groupof children an opportunity to enjoy a multi-sensory experience, delving into variousmaterials and creating art projects which theycan take home. Create cards, ornaments,sculptures, and accessories using clay, fabric,paper, and recycled materials. Each class will bebased on a story book or theme that will betailored to the child’s special abilities. These classes will not only help participantscreate art, but will help them to learn life skills,social skills, problem-solving skills, motor skills, time management, and help them to build confidence.Come have fun, make new friends and learn with other children who love art. TEEN WHEEL-THROWING For ages 12-17with Joe VitekFor both total beginners and those with clay experience!This class is designed for students who wish to learn thefundamental skills involved with making pottery on thewheel. All the basics from clay preparation, throwingtechniques, and glazing will be taught, as well asopportunities for some hand-building. You can expect tolearn how to make vases, mugs, bowls, and plates, as well asother forms according to ability and desire. Class Policies& ProceduresINCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY If Howard County public schools are closed due

to inclement weather, the Columbia Art Center will not hold daytime adult classes or any youth

classes. For information regarding adult afternoon and evening classes and all weekend classes,

please call the Columbia Art Center at 410-730-0075.

DISCOUNTS Individuals who live or work full-time on Columbia Association assessed prop-

erty pay the discounted “Resident” tuition for classes. All others must pay the “Non-Resident”

tuition. Access to CA facilities and programs may be denied to a Columbia Resident (member or

non-member) whose property is the subject of a covenant violation referred to the Architectural

Resource Committee for Action.

SUPPLIES Adult students are responsible for purchasing their own materials for most

classes. Refer to course description for clarification or call Columbia Art Center for additional

information. A supply list for adult classes will be supplied upon registration.

CANCELLATION AND TUITION REFUNDS Columbia Art Center reserves the

right to cancel any class for any reason. In the event the Art Center must cancel a class, refund of

tuition is guaranteed. Tuition cannot be credited, prorated or refunded after the first day of

class. No prorated tuitions will be given; full tuition is required. If you have any questions about

the content or focus of the class, please contact Columbia Art Center before the class begins.

ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY Columbia Art Center has a zero tolerance policy for class

disruption and aggression towards staff, instructors, students and visitors. Any type of aggressive

behavior may be grounds for removal from Columbia Art Center. Columbia Art Center reserves

the right to suspend or terminate class participation and usage of Columbia Art Center for

inappropriate or abusive behavior or class disruption. No credits or refunds will be granted.
