College Role

The college shall establish committees to assist in accomplishing the objectives of the SP. In the SP plan there are eight (8) strategic objectives. Some of these committees are at the departmental level while others at the college level. Utmost care must be exercised in order to minimize duplication.

Departmental Role

It is also recommended that each department shall establish the following committees:

Graduating students and Alumni committee to implement objective 1 of the SP.

Curriculum committee to implement objective 2 (This committee already exists). Its charges may require modification

Graduate and Research committee to implement objective 6 and part of objective 5. (This committee already exists. Its charges may require modification.

Student affairs committee to implement objective 5 of the SP.

Other committees necessary for the department business.

SP Implementation Each committee responsible for a strategic

objective shall review in the first month the current status of the objective in the department or the college utilizing the performance measures in the SP.

Based on the level of the performance indicators a goal for the objective will be established and an action plan will be developed to achieve the goal. The plan should specify tasks, resources needed and schedule.

SP Implementation

The Department or the college administration must provide the resources to achieve the objectives of the project.

Based on the schedule the college/department council should monitor and review progress.

SP Implementation

The following committees are suggested to be at the college level:

Learning and Teaching Committee to assist in implementing objective 3 in the SP.

Faculty Committee to assist in implementing objective 4 of the SP.

College Infrastructure committee to assist in implementing objective 8.

Example

Let us consider objective Objective 6 : Conduct research at the frontiers of knowledge in computer sciences and engineering with emphasis on areas that serve and sustain the Kingdom economic development Journal publication index, conference publication index, research grant/Projects and patents/recognition/ award index calculated at the college level.

Example

Suppose in X department the current publication index is 0.5 and grants and projects index is 0.4.

The target established is one for each index.

What action plan must be taken to reach the target.

Example: Action Plans

Action Pan:• Identify faculty members that need help.• Develop a special grants for them.• Summer grants with industry.

Resources needed:• Financial• Industry support• Etc.
