Saddleback College New Employees 2013 2 Welcome to the 2013-2014 Academic Year! I am excited to welcome and introduce our new faculty, staff, and managers to Saddleback College. The following pages provide more background on our new hires and I am sure you will agree that they are all very impressive, with skills and experience that will service our students and college well. In-Service Week provides a wonderful introduction to our college, with many opportunities to engage in roundtable discussions and idea exchanges, and learn about available resources for faculty and students. With so much of our work focused on the recommendations of the Student Success Task force, I look forward to engaging in discussions on how we can increase completion rates, work to close the achievement gap, and incentivize successful student behaviors, among other topics. I have been president of Saddleback College now for more than five years. When I look back at my time here, I truly think we are in a prime era not only for higher education, but for community colleges and Saddleback College in particular. After making it through historically low funding levels for all community colleges while maintaining our high quality programs and services for students, our economy is reviving and we are implementing historic reforms following Governor Brown’s signing of the Student Success Act of 2012, which seeks to improve graduation and transfer rates for California Community College students. Indeed, it is a great time to be a part of the Saddleback family. Our faculty, staff, and management team have done a lot of impressive work over the past year and I look forward to updating you on training and development for new faculty, our High School Partnership Plan, and increasing external resources through the Saddleback College Foundation, among other initiatives. I also look forward to more collaboration over the coming year in our strategic planning, enrollment management efforts, and further development of our Career Technical Education and Economic and Workforce Development programs. I wish you all the very best for a wonderful academic year! Sincerely, Tod A. Burnett, Ed.D. President

Welcome to the 2013-2014 Academic Year!
