The BURmastic 200 family of roofing systems is a high performance,

cold applied built-up roofing system. It contains no asbestos and is

lower in odor than hot built-up roofs. Its application does not require

kettles or torches. It is ideal for use in schools, health related facilities,

electronics plants, fume/odor sensitive facilities and roofs with limited

accessibility, such as high-rise buildings.

Basic Use:

The BURmastic 200 family of roofing systems can be

specified as a new or replacement membrane wherever

a built-up roofing membrane is used. Its specialized application

methods and high performance components eliminate the

inconsistencies and hazards of conventional hot bitumens.

Applicable Standards:

Consult your Tremco representative regarding current

UL Classifications, FM Approvals and details on applicable

standards and fire ratings.

System Composition:

The BURmastic 200 family of roofing systems consists of

a spray or brush applied BURmastic Adhesive which is used

for adhering and surfacing plies of BURmastic Composite

Ply felts. BURmastic Adhesive is a cold applied, asbestos

free asphalt. BURmastic Composite Ply is a polyester/glass/polyester trilaminate reinforcement coated

with waterproofing asphalt for cold applied built-up roofing systems.

Physical properties of the system may be customized to your specific requirements by the addition

and/or deletion of approved components.

For example, to increase system tensile strength, add plies of BURmastic Composite Ply.

System Limitations:• Do not use with polystyrene or phenolic insulation or

install directly over uncoated fiberboard or white-facedpolyisocyanurate insulation.

Packaging:

BURmastic Adhesive is available in 200 L (53 gal) linedor unlined or 19 L (5 gal) containers. BURmastic CompositePly is available in rolls 915 mm (36 in) wide covering18.6 m2 (200 ft2) when applied.

Drainage:

Excessive ponding can adversely affect the performance ofany built-up roofing system. Where positive drainage does notexist, water removal from the roof surface must be facilitatedby lowering drains, installing tapered insulation, adding drainsor other acceptable means.

Precautions:

User must read container labels and Material Safety DataSheets for health and safety precautions prior to use.

Vapor/Air Barrier:

Where specified, ensure proper design and installation. Contactyour Tremco representative for detailed recommendations.

Structural Integrity of Decks:

The existing deck must be properly designed and constructed tosupport and secure the BURmastic 200 built-up roofing system.

Insulation:

The BURmastic 200 roof membrane is designed to be appliedover conventional preformed, rigid insulation including polyiso-cyanurate, fiberglass or asphalt coated/impregnated fiberboard.Insulation must be dry at time of BURmastic installation. Nomore insulation shall be installed than can be closed in that day.Insulation may be adhered with Tremco Fas-n-Free® InsulationAdhesive or mechanically fastened depending upon substrate,exterior and interior environment and other requirements.Detailed recommendations are available from your Tremcorepresentative.

Technical Services:

Your local Tremco representative and the Tremco TechnicalServices Department provide problem analysis and assistancein developing recommendations for special applications. General Installation Information:

See applicable instructions for detailed information on new roofingand reroofing for various deck types. Field application and flashingtechniques are critical in securing a watertight roof. Applicationinstructions must be followed exactly. There is no substitute for goodworkmanship by experienced, trained applicators.

Follow the specific, detailed instructions for the specific application.Do not substitute materials. If questions arise, contact your Tremcorepresentative.

Notes:1) Do not use BURmastic as the adhesive for a water dam.2) Do not use BURmastic Base Sheet Adhesive on systems applied

over Tectum or gypsum decks.3) Wood and Tectum decks require a rosin sheet below the base sheet.

BURmastic 200 - 4 Ply Roof Membrane Installation:

Install layers of BURmastic Composite Ply felts in shingle fashion. Placein such a manner as to ensure that water will flow over or parallel to,but never against, exposed edges.1) Starting at the low point of the roof, spray or brush apply a uniform

coating of BURmastic Adhesive over the roof area at the rate of1 L/m2 (2.5 gal/100ft2)*.

2) Embed starting/finishing strips of BURmastic Composite Ply felts230 mm, 460 mm, 685 mm and 915 mm (9 in, 18 in, 27 in and36 in) wide into the BURmastic Adhesive.

3) Overlap starter strips 750 mm (29 in) with next ply, then overlapeach succeeding ply 700 mm (27.5 in).

4) End laps shall be a minimum 150 mm (6 in) wide and staggered.Each ply of felt, including the starting felts, shall be solidly coatedwith BURmastic Adhesive on its full width and nowhere shall felttouch felt. The felts shall be broomed to assure complete contactwithout wrinkles, fishmouths or blisters.

5) Do not walk on felts until adhesive has cured.6) Extend all plies to the top edges of all cant strips and cut off evenly.7) Fit plies into roof drains and reinforce with flashing set in specified

mastic. Strip in properly with ELS and BURmesh®. Secure clampingcollars and install drain screens.

8) Treat all perimeter edge details, expansion joints and flashings byreinforcing with approved Tremco flashing system.

99) Install metal details as specified.10) When terminating each day’s installations, install temporary water

dams.a) Use non-perforated, saturated organic felts adhered anda) overcoated with a solid coating of adhesive.b) Remove water dams before resuming application.

Finishing Options:a) Gravel: Spray or brush apply BURmastic Adhesive at the rate of

2 L/m2 (5 gal/100 ft2)* over the entire roof surface. Immediatelybroadcast minimum of 19.5 kg/m2 (400 lb/100 ft2) of new cleanaggregate.

b) Granule: Spray or brush BURmastic Adhesive at the rate of 1.4 L/m2

(3.5 gal/100 ft2)* over the entire roof surface. Immediately broadcastminimum of 2.9 kg/m2 (60 lb/100 ft2) of No. 11 roofing granules intoadhesive.

c) Smooth: Allow roofing system to cure for 30 days. Apply surfacingemulsion over roof surface at 1.6 L/m2 (4 gal/100 ft2)*. If reflectivecoating is desired, allow surfacing emulsion to cure for 30 days. Thensweep the complete surface removing all sand, dust, dirt or otherforeign material and apply the specified reflective coating.

Install layers of BURmastic Glass Ply felts in shingle fashion. Placein such a manner as to ensure that water will flow over or parallel to,but never against, exposed edges.

1) Starting at the low point of the roof, spray or brush apply a uniformcoating of BURmastic Adhesive over the roof area at the rate of1.2 L/m2 (3 gal/100ft2)*.

2) Embed starting/finishing strips of BURmastic Glass Ply felts305 mm, 610 mm and 915 mm (12 in, 24 in and 36 in) wide intothe BURmastic Adhesive.

3) Overlap starter strips 660 mm (26 in) with next ply, then overlapeach succeeding ply 625 mm (24.75 in).

4) BURmastic Glass Ply felts must be cut to 6 m (18 ft) lengthsand allowed to thermally expand in the sun for at least 1 hourimmediately before application.

5) End laps shall be a minimum 150 mm (6 in) wide and staggered.Each ply of felt, including the starting felts, shall be solidly coatedwith BURmastic Adhesive on its full width and nowhere shall felttouch felt. The felts shall be broomed to assure complete contactwithout wrinkles, fishmouths or blisters.

6) Do not walk on felts until adhesive has cured.7) Extend all plies to the top edges of all cant strips and cut off evenly.8) Fit plies into roof drains and reinforce with flashing set in specified

mastic. Strip in properly with ELS and BURmesh®. Secure clampingcollars and install drain screens.

General Installation Information:

See applicable instructions for detailed information on new roofingand reroofing for various deck types. Field application and flashingtechniques are critical in securing a watertight roof. Applicationinstructions must be followed exactly. There is no substitute for goodworkmanship by experienced, trained applicators.

Notes:1) Do not use BURmastic as the adhesive for a water dam.2) Do not use BURmastic Base Sheet Adhesive on systems applied

over Tectum or gypsum decks.3) Wood and Tectum decks require a rosin sheet below the base sheet.

BURmastic 100 Base + 2 Ply Roof Membrane Installation:

After fastening base sheet, install layers of BURmastic Glass Ply feltsin shingle fashion. Place in such a manner as to ensure that water willflow over or parallel to, but never against, exposed edges.1) BURmastic Glass Ply felts must be cut to 6 m (18 ft) lengths

and allowed to thermally expand in the sun for at least 1 hourimmediately before application.

2) Fasten base sheet per specification.3) Starting at the low point of the roof, spray or brush apply a uniform

coating of BURmastic Adhesive over the roof area at the rate of1.2 L/m2 (3 gal/100ft2)*.

4) Embed starting/finishing strips of BURmastic Glass Ply felts460 mm and 915 mm (18 in and 36 in) wide into the BURmasticAdhesive.

5) Overlap starter strips 510 mm (20 in) with next ply, then overlapeach succeeding ply 485 mm (19 in).

6) End laps shall be a minimum 150 mm (6 in) wide and staggered.Each ply of felt, including the starting felts, shall be solidly coatedwith BURmastic Adhesive on its full width and nowhere shall felttouch felt. The felts shall be broomed to assure complete contactwithout wrinkles, fishmouths or blisters.

7) Do not walk on felts until adhesive has cured.8) Extend all plies to the top edges of all cant strips and cut off evenly.9) Fit plies into roof drains and reinforce with flashing set in specified

mastic. Strip in properly with ELS and BURmesh®. Secure clampingcollars and install drain screens.

10) Treat all perimeter edge details, expansion joints and flashings byreinforcing with approved Tremco flashing system.

11) Install metal details as specified.12) When terminating each day’s installations, install temporary water

dams.a) Use non-perforated, saturated organic felts adhered anda) overcoated with a solid coating of adhesive.b) Remove water dams before resuming application.

Finishing Options:a) Gravel: Spray or brush apply BURmastic Adhesive at the rate of

2 L/m2 (5 gal/100 ft2)* over the entire roof surface. Immediatelybroadcast minimum of 19.5 kg/m2 (400 lb/100 ft2) of new cleanaggregate.

b) Granule: Spray or brush BURmastic Adhesive at the rate of 1.4 L/m2

(3.5 gal/100 ft2)* over the entire roof surface. Immediately broadcastminimum of 2.9 kg/m2 (60 lb/100 ft2) of No. 11 roofing granules intoadhesive.

c) Smooth: Allow roofing system to cure for 30 days. Apply surfacingemulsion over roof surface at 1.6 L/m2 (4 gal/100 ft2)*. If reflectivecoating is desired, allow surfacing emulsion to cure for 30 days. Thensweep the complete surface removing all sand, dust, dirt or otherforeign material and apply the specified reflective coating.
