In recent years, the poultry industry has seen incremental changes drivenby rising awareness related to the humane treatment of animals, better livingand feeding conditions, non-GMO, hormone-free and antibiotic-freeproduction standards.
The industry’s status quo has also been challenged on the environmental front with more savvy customers demanding eco responsibility, which has led many companies to explore renewable energy sources, water stewardship programs and carbon offsetting.
With greater health advocacy and food movements, including Paleo, Keto,FODMAP and specific carbohydrate diets amongst others, consumers havebeen tuning into a more wholistic way of life, with greater emphasis placed on food quality.

The Beginnings
When Cocorico production system was founded, the founder noted a steadyshift away from the land and people becoming separated from traditionalfood production. This prompted the need for trusted food producers who could reconcile the best of traditional farming with industrial food rearing. Over 25 years later, Cocorico has become one of the most respected brands chosen by millions of people in Romania and the rest of Europe.
Avicola Buzău, Cocorico’s farm grounds, was established in 1982 and sits at the foothills of Romania’s Carpathian mountain range and forms a portion of the fertile Romanian Plain.

Truth
Chicken is rife with macronutrients and micronutrients that fuel and nourish thehuman body. Poultry contains all essential amino acids necessary for proteinsynthesis. White poultry meat has a high protein content of 21-22%, while redmeat is 19-20 % protein. Epidemiological studies support the common view thatan adequate intake of poultry facilitates the maintenance of healthy bodyweight, especially due to high protein content. It also has a positive effect inprotecting the body from the risk of developing degenerative diseases common in contemporary society (e.g., cardiovascular disease, diabetesand hypercholesterolemia).
Carbohydrates (sugars) are found in a small quantity in poultry as muscle gly-cogen is transformed into lactic acid after slaughter. As for fat, chicken fits into low saturated fat diets as it’s high in polyunsaturated fats and Omega-6 fatty acids.
Moreover, meat contains vitamin B12, which works with folic acid in many body processes, including the synthesis of DNA, red blood cells and the myelin sheath that surrounds nerve cells and speeds signal conduction along nerve cells. B12 and folic acid also work synergistically to reduce body concentra-tions of homocysteine (an intermediate in the conversion of methionine to cysteine). Increased homocysteine has been implicated in a variety of condi-tions including atherosclerosis and osteoporosis. Homocysteine likely promotes atherosclerosis by directly damaging the artery and reducing the integrity of the vessel wall. In osteoporosis, elevated homocysteine levels lead to a defec-tive bone matrix by interfering with the formation of proper collagen.
Poultry also has a significant source of vitamin B3 (niacin), which is involved inthe metabolism of proteins, lipids, carbohydrates and minerals and supports the adrenals. Niacin functions in the body as a component of the coenzymes NAD and NADP, which are involved in over 50 different chemical reactions in the body. Coenzyme 1, the active form of vitamin B3, a substance present mainly in chicken and turkey, is essential to neurological health, boosting mood and combating fatigue. As far as mineral content, poultry contains important micronutrients including selenium, zinc and iron.
Cocorico poultry is 100% natural. All products are free of additives, GMOs, processed materials, growth hormones and free of antibiotics. Chickens are fed a 100% plant-based diet based on corn, wheat, triticale and soy beans sup-plemented with multi-vitamins and minerals.

Truth
The use of growth hormones to breed chickens has been strictly forbiddenby law since 1982 in accordance with directive 81/602 EEC of the EuropeanFood Safety Authority (EFSA). According to article 8, section 3 of Ordinance199/2006, meat or products from animals treated with oestrogenic,androgenic or gestagenic agents or beta agonists cannot be placed on themarket for human consumption. The use of substances such as estradiol-17B,progesterone, testosterone, zeranol, trenbolone and melengestrol acetate(MGA) are strictly forbidden.
As part of the Romanian government’s strategic surveillance food safetyprogram and Ordinance 35/2016, poultry producers must agree to auditsperformed by the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority(ANSVSA). Product samples are collected for laboratory analysis to rule outthe presence of hormones, toxic substances and medications.Moreover, AAylex has implemented its own program that monitors and verifiesthe presence of any such substances in its product range, being certified bythe international SGS company that Cocorico products are 100% natural.
Poultry will not make you fat, although you can gain weight if your diet is notpart of a balanced lifestyle. Poultry is rich in protein, which contributes tosatiety and balanced blood sugar levels. This prevents insulin resistance andthe onset of metabolic disorders that can cause weight gain and obesity.

Cocorico trays have been designed to preserve the taste of all products.Cocorico’s poultry range accounts different weights, being packed in trays ofdifferent sizes. Product shelf life up to 15 days, depending on the tray’s size and product specifications (e.g. bone, boneless, with or without chicken skin).
The trays are made from polypropylene (PP), while the foil is a hybrid of PP andPET and labels are paper-based. These materials are in a constant process ofoptimization for sustainability and eco-friendliness in keeping with environmen-tal stewardship initiatives.

Quality Assurance (QA) LaboratoryCocorico is verified in a RENAR-certified laboratory that is equipped with thelatest technology to analyze the quality and correctness of the feed for each life stage of the chicken.
Poultry Feed PlantAgro Cooperativa Agricolă is AAylex Group’s newest poultry feed plantin Făurei, Romania with a capacity of producing 15 tonnes of feed per hour(110,000 tons per year). The facility is equipped with the latest technologythat maintains the production flow and accurate dosage of all the feednutrients adapted to each growth stage of the chickens. Chickens are feda 100% plant-based diet based on corn, wheat, triticale and soybeanssupplemented with multi-vitamins and minerals.
HatcheriesAAylex hatcheries are equipped with computerized monitoring systemsthat control cooling, heat and humidity to ensure a carefully controlledenvironment. Hygiene and sanitation are maintained and controlled stricklyduring the entire process.
Avicola Buzău Breeding FarmsAAylex owns and manages poultry breeding farms located in southeasternRomania. Eggs obtained from the breeding process are used in hatcheriesequipped with modern technology and then transferred to the broiler farms.Biosecurity standards are ensured at every stage of this process, includingmonitoring the growth of the chickens, their environment and diet.
Broiler FarmsThe AAylex Group owns and manages its own broiler farms.Broiler chickens grow in large, clean and ventilated spaces under the strictattention of nutrition, health and growth specialists. Broiler farms are equippedwith the latest technology to maintain indoor climates and chickens are able tomove around ample space, eat, breathe fresh air and drink water freely.
AAylex Prod AAylex Group owns an abattoir in Buzău, Romania fitted with state of theart equipment. The high-tech poultry processing facility receives chickenstransferred from broiler farms. During the transport, proper density ismaintained to ensure the welfare of the chickens. Throughout the processing ofchickens in the abattoirs, the birds are inspected by the National Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) and a strict QA department.
