Why Live Positively?

Message by John MurphyPresident of the Latin Center Business Unit

The mission of The Coca-Cola Company is to refresh the world….inspire moments of optimism and happiness….create value and make a difference. To help fulfil this mission, my colleagues and bottling partners across Latin Center are guided each day by our Company’s Global 2020 Vision, A Roadmap for Winning Together. This vision is clearly expressed through six key lenses – Profit, People, Portfolio, Partners, Planet and Productivity, and for each lens we have clearly defined success metrics. We are not only focused, however, on what we do and deliver successfully, we are equally passionate about how we do things. In fact, we are so passionate about excelling in both the “what” and the “how” that we have created a platform called Live Positively to guide our entire system to achieve both in a sustainable manner.

It is with great pleasure that I share with you in this inaugural report Coca-Cola Latin Center’s accomplishments to date on our Live Positively journey towards our 2020 Vision. While we believe we are on the right track, we also recognize that there is much work ahead. My colleagues and I look forward to this journey, and to having the opportunity to making a difference in the communities where we have the privilege to operate.

Saludos,

John Murphy

ACTIVE HEALTHYLIVING

These are our commitments to sustainability:

We aim to continue being a global company with local roots in every community where we do business, through satisfying the specific needs of each location by means of wide-ranging programs.

We consider emotional health as important as physical well-being. For that reason, we invite people to enjoy life with an optimistic, positive attitude.

We aim to be the beverage industry leader, and grow our business but not the carbon emissions.

We work to foster open work environments as diverse as the markets we serve, in which labor rights are respected, and people are inspired to create positive results, and contribute to make a positive difference for the world.

We aim to satisfy every consumption need in the market, to offer and tailor beverages for every lifestyle, life stage and occasion, based on individual needs, and on a strict sense of quality that consumers can trust always.

Our packaging will be seen as a valuable resource to be reused.

We want to return to nature in a safety way an amount of water equivalent to our production processes.

We aspire to bring to end sedentary lifestyles, and encourage active living. Our goal is to raise physical activity standards worldwide by supporting and sponsoring physical activity programs.

We are committed to reducing the amount of water used in the production processes of our beverages.Between 2004 and 2009, we were able to save 3, 7 millions of cubic meters. This equals the amount of water required by 4,100 families in the same time period.

Our goal for 2012 is to use 2L/L of water, which represents an improvement of 46% compared to 2004.

Water Use Ratio in the Business Unit

Coca-Cola is committed to ensure that by the end of 2010, all our bottling partners have wastewater treatment plants.

Our achievements to date:• 23 plants in operation• 8 plants under construction• 9 plants under planning

In 2009, 4 million cubic meters were treated and restored to nature with safe conditions to support life. This equals the amount con-sumed by 22,222 families, approximately.

Waste water treatment plants

Alliance with WWF and The Coca-Cola Company for watershed protectionEl Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras

Thanks to the joint work with WWF, the Coca-Cola Company has promoted water programs in Guate-mala, Honduras and El Salvador. These initiatives are of great significance for the region since Guate-mala and Honduras are part of the Mesoamerican Reef, the world’s second largest coral reef.

These programs have helped to promote the active participation of the community and the integrated management of the watershed, by means of conservancy efforts, teaching agricultural sustainable prac-tices, reforestation, and the protection of natural resources, while enhancing the quality of life of the communities through new development models.

More than 1,800 families in Santa Rosalía de Mármol in Guatemala, Río San Antonio in El Salvador and El Chamalecón in Honduras have been positively impacted by these programs.

The energy management and the climate protection are a priority for the Coca-Cola System. Therefore, we have developed some initiatives that allow us to minimize the consumption of energy and identify opportunities in the manufacturing process, the fleet, and the sales and packaging equipment.

• From 2004 to 2009 the Company has reached a reduction of 14% in energy savings. In regards to the Concentrates Plant in Costa Rica from 2008 to 2009, it reached a reduction of 5% in its consumption.

• Regarding our fleet, we are including trucks with electronic engine control in order to have lower and more efficient energy consumption. Besides, chip cards have been included to store performance data of the fleet units in order to keep better control of each unit.

With this initiative a reduction of 850,000 liters of fuel has been possible in the last 3 years, and a reduction of CO2 emissions as well.

The Coca-Cola Cup has become one of the most important youth soccer tournaments at a Latin American level because it promotes love for sports, team work and fair play among young people. The program also provides them with the opportunity to know about new cultures and be open to new possibilities as well.

By 2009, we have benefited more than 40,000 students in all the Business Unit.

Coca-Cola Cup

Our goal is to promote the health of our people and our environment.

By means of sports activations, young people have the chance to play football, basketball, and baseball, win prizes and contribute to environmental conservancy. In order to participate in this initiative, consumers should present two bottles/cans, which will be recycled by Ecotech.

Nursing Area and Support Program at the Concentrates Plant

We promote gender equity and equal opportunities for all of the employees.

This is why we believe in the development of our staff and in the development of female talent throughout the business unit. As an example of this, 49% of our employees are women.

Equal Opportunities

We make sure that our bottlers and suppliers do business in an ethical manner, and abide by the laws and regulations valid in each country.

Through the Supplier Guiding Principles, we communicate our values and set our expectations about our business partners.

This platform also includes advisory, development support programs, identification of opportunity areas, and follow up audits.

In 2009, we performed 119 audits to suppliers and bottlers, representing an increase of more than 300% vs 2008.

Both Foundations built and equipped the Interpretation center for waste management, and supported the Recycling Center with the donation of a crushing machine for plastic that is used to crush PET bottles and other plastics.

More than 300 volunteers contributed to the collection of 4,595 kilos of solid waste in 2009.

We are committed to reduce the amount of material used in our packaging and in the production pro-cess. Therefore, throughout the Business Unit we are having different initiatives to reduce the packaging material and to reduce the weight of our bottles.

In 2009, we saved 7,956 metric tons of material, which equals the production of approximately 361 mil-lion of 600 ml PET bottles.

By 2012, our goal is to reduce the weight of our PET packaging between 17% and 20%, which equals 14,550 metric tons or 800 million 600 ml PET bottles.
