PRESIDENT’S REPORT

The Annual General Meeting of Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club Ltd will be held in the Heritage Function Centre at

the Club on Thursday 22nd November at 7.30pm.

Dear Member,

Since my last report the Club has seen the passing of three men who by their efforts, helped to make our Club the success that it has become, and I would like to briefly pay tribute to their contribution.

Firstly, Sam Crawford, who was an early Director and served for many years and helping to form the policies that our Club relies on, even today. Sam was also an original Member of the Ryde-

Eastwood D.R.L.F.C. and was awarded Life Membership of both Clubs for his services. His contribution to our Club will not be forgotten.

Secondly, Les Hayes, who was our first Secretary in 1963, and together with the late Fred Fayers, was most responsible for this Club gaining a Licence after those seven years of battle through the Courts, against our opposition. Les was elected President when the Club opened in 1970 and served until 1975 when his work took him to the country. He was an original Committeeman of the Ryde-Eastwood D.R.L.F.C., and was awarded Life Membership of both Clubs. Les, together with Fred Fayers and the late Harry Quinlan and others such as Jack King and the late Bob Clayton, set the foundations on which our Club has flourished over these years.

The third man was John Bogie, who started with our Club when it opened in 1970 as the drummer with our Club band. He later became our Entertainment Manager, and after retiring was elected to the Board in 2004 and served up to the time of his passing a few weeks ago.

People such as this writer will not forget their contributions to this Club, and their Epitaph can be read when you, as members, enter the Club and read the inscription on the plaque below the Honour Roll, which states, “When you drink at the well, remember those that dug the hole.”

Briefly in Club news, you will be pleased to know that the Club exceeded last year’s net profit by $173,602, and as I have stated in past reports, these results are only possible with the support of you the member, so once again I thank all those of you that use our facilities.

The new Golden Hawk Chinese Dining Room has so far been well attended, and the Board, together with management and our caterer, are still fine tuning the Menu to cater for all members’ tastes.

One matter that I would like to bring to members’ attention is when you are playing the poker machines and you have to leave the machine for a few moments, please make sure that someone keeps watch for you in regard to the credits on the machine. New technology makes the retrieval of credits very easy, and there has been the odd case of people removing these credits when members have left their machine unattended.

More information on the financial results is detailed in my report for the A.G.M. further on in the Journal.

FOOTBALL REPORT

The Balmain Ryde-Eastwood Tigers were unable to complete their near perfect finals record in the VB NSW Cup Competition when they were beaten 22 to 18 by their Newtown rivals in the Grand Final decider at A.N.Z Stadium on Sunday 30th September.

After finishing eighth in the Competition rounds they then defeated Windsor 32 to 6 in their elimination semi-final, and went on to defeat Wentworthville 29 to 20 in their next final match before qualifying for the Grand Final by defeating Newcastle by 26 to 24. This win set up a meeting to decide the Premiership with their old rivals, Newtown. Had they been able to win the Grand Final they would have become the first team in the current form of the Finals to win from eighth position, a task that they almost succeeded in doing. Both teams finished with four tries apiece, with Newtown kicking three goals to our one, which proved the difference in the end. Full credit must go to the coach Paul Fletcher and his Staff for their efforts over the season.

From next season there will be only one team competing in the NSW Cup Competition from the Balmain / Wests merger, and this team will be known as the Wests Tigers. At the stage of writing it is not sure what capacity Ryde-Eastwood will be involved with this team, as negotiations are still ongoing in this regard.

Club officials would like to thank our Supporters for their involvement over the season and hope that they will get behind the new concept next year.

By implementing the recommendations from its recent Energy Saver audit, Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club will reduce its lighting energy use by 30 per cent, cut carbon pollution by 237 tonnes and save more than $60,000 per year.

With an annual power bill of more than half a million dollars, the management team at Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club is constantly looking for energy saving opportunities. And while there’s no shortage of people approaching the club with proposals promising big power savings, General Manager Chris McCarthy says that sorting out which technologies will deliver proven results can be a challenge. ‘We simply don’t have the technical expertise to make those kinds of decisions unaided,’ says McCarthy. ‘The proposals that come across my desk usually have some commercial initiative behind them, so it can be diffcult to work out which ones will provide genuine savings.’

As part of an ongoing efficiency programme, the club upgraded its air-conditioning chiller plant in 2010 and recently implemented some water-saving initiatives. McCarthy says installing more efficient lighting was the next priority.

‘The Office of Environment and Heritage’s Energy Saver programme made it viable for the club to enlist the services of an independent energy consultant to help us create a plan for our lighting upgrade with all the proper checks and balances in place,’ says McCarthy.‘ Our auditor not only helped us to identify cost saving opportunities, but also payback periods for the recommended capital expenditure.

‘The audit report was very comprehensive and made it easy for us to prioritise projects, as well as get Board approval for more than $145,000 in capital expenditure.’

While the payback period for the club’s planned capital expenditure is 2.3 years, this is expected to reduce further as many projects will qualify for Energy Savings Certificates.

The club’s projects include installing motion sensors in toilets, outdoor smoking areas, and the function centre; replacing T8 fluorescent light fittings with T5s; and installing voltage reduction

units in the car park. The most costly project involves replacing more than 500 halogen downlights with LEDs. More than half the club’s energy and cost savings will come from this initiative.

In briefAn Energy Saver audit helped Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club identify lighting options to help reduce the centre’s electricity use. Options included replacing T8 fluorescent light fittings with T5s; installing motion sensors; replacing halogen downlights with LEDs, and installing voltage reduction units in the car park.

While more than $50,000 in savings will result directly from more energy effcient lighting, the new fittings generate less heat and will help to reduce air-conditioning costs by an additional $12,000 a year. The longer life of the replacement fittings will also reduce maintenance costs.

Results• Cost savings of around $63,000 a year.

• Expected 30 per cent reduction in lighting energy use.

• Simple payback period of 2.3 years will be made shorter with Energy Savings Certificates.

• Annual reduction in carbon pollution of more than 237 tonnes.

Toddlers are curious by nature and often attracted by water. However, they have little fear or understanding of the possible dangers posed.

As they learn to crawl and walk, their ability to access water hazards such as pools, spas, and buckets is greatly increased. Toddlers tend

to be ‘top heavy’ and can therefore easily lose balance and fall into bodies of water. Children can drown in as little as a few centimetres of

water, so items such as inflatable swimming pools, baths, and nappy buckets all pose a drowning hazard.

According to the Royal Life Saving Society of Australia, 49% of children aged 0-4 who drowned did so in a swimming pool. The Fitness

Edge Swim School recommends that parents and carers take the following precautions to reduce the risk of childhood drowning:

SUPERVISE:

• Ensure constant and active supervision.

• Remain within an arm’s reach of young children as they can drown quickly and silently.

• Never leave a young child unsupervised; always take your child with you if you have to leave the water area, even if

you will only be gone for a short period.

• Don’t expect older children to look after younger siblings. Children have short attention spans and can be easily distracted.

• Nominate a parent or carer to supervise any children near the water when you have visitors.

REDUCE THE HAzARD:

• Restrict the child’s access to water through safety barriers such as pool fencing. The legislation surrounding pool fencing

differs between the States and Territories of Australia. Contact your local authority or government agency for information on

pool fencing regulations in your area.

• Don’t leave objects near a pool fence that will enable children to climb into a pool, e.g. pot plants and chairs.

• Don‘t leave any gates or doors propped open that might allow children access to a body of water.

• Create a safe play area for children, especially on farms and large properties, which are separated from bodies of water

such as swimming pools, dams and water troughs.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Dear Member,The 2011-2012 Financial Year has seen our Club return a net profit after Tax of $3,762,138. This result is an increase of $173,600 on the previous Year ($3,588,536), and shows again the tremendous support that our Members give to our Club.

With disruptions over this period due to the refurbishments to the Fitness Edge, and taking into account the current economic conditions, it is all the more noteworthy.

Of course, all these results don’t just happen, and great credit must go to our General Manager, Chris McCarthy and his hardworking team of Carl Pozzato (Operations Manager), Jo Luke (H.R.), Nathan Hawton (Gaming), Dean Owen (Marketing), Martin Westbrook (Beverage), Chris Kalligas (Fitness Edge), Lisa Kradenian (Functions) and also all our line management and staff, who continue to excel in their various roles and work in the interests of the club and its members.

To my fellow Board Members, again a big thank you for your continued support and input which involves many hours of time

and dedication on their part.

The trading information for the first few months of the year indicate that the Club is currently in line with our budget, and hopefully this augers well for the remainder of this current financial year. Although this trend and the previous year’s results are extremely satisfying, we cannot rest on our laurels, and our task is to continue to monitor all operational areas of the club to ensure they perform to the levels expected.

This monitoring process is also relevant to our industry as a whole, which is continuing to undergo many changes, and your Board and Management are keeping a vigilant watch in this regard.

GENERAL MANAGER’S REPORTMembers,

The 2012 Annual Report highlights a record after-tax net profit for Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club of $3.762m. The result following on from the previous years strong net result places your club in a very strong financial position.

The year in review was not without its share of highs and lows. The year commenced with a major threat from the Federal

Government in the form of the proposed mandatory pre-commitment technology. The Club Industry rallied against this poorly considered proposal with a strong campaign pointing out the potential damage to our industry with minimum effect on the targeted issue of problem gambling. We are grateful that the proposal has been shelved at least for the foreseeable future. On a positive note the new Liberal/National Government in NSW honoured its pre-election Memorandum of Understanding and has introduced a number of measures designed to strengthen the Club Industry for the benefit of communities in NSW.

During the year we undertook a major refurbishment and upgrade of the The Fitness Edge, the club’s fitness and aquatic centre located on the lower ground floor. Opened in 1998, the Centre was in need of a freshen up and the end result has certainly achieved that. The Fitness Edge now provides a modern, well balanced centre with great facilities for the whole family. With the ever increasing level of competition in the fitness industry we are confident the refurbished centre will be an attractive option for the local community. If you haven’t yet had a chance to visit The Fitness Edge, I urge you to inspect the Centre on your next visit to the club.

Other enhancements to The Fitness Edge include the replacement of the gutter supports around the pool edge to provide a long term maintenance-free solution, and the installation of a pool heat pump to provide an energy-efficient solution for pool heating.

Energy efficiency has been a major focus for the club in the past year, with the installation of the new heat pump for the pool, a major lighting review, which has resulted in the replacement of the majority of the lights on the ground floor, and other energy saving initiatives throughout the club and the car park. The club has also recently completed an energy equipment audit and work will soon commence on the commissioning of recommendations contained in the audit.

Over the past three years we have managed to reduce our overall energy consumption by nearly 20% and reduce our peak demand by nearly 30%, yet we have seen our electricity bill continue to increase, with a further 10% increase since 1st July. This last increase included the cost of the Carbon Tax which is averaging around $6,000 per month. Reduced consumption and increased costs would be a familiar story to most members when it comes to their own electricity bill, and we share your concern on this issue.

2012 also saw the change of the club’s restaurant to the Golden Hawk Chinese Restaurant, specialising in Chinese cuisine. This was a major change, stemming from concern of a long term trend of reduced patronage for the old Hawk’s Nest Restaurant. The Board and Management were of the view that a major change was required to ensure that the restaurant returned to profitability, so that this facility could be maintained for members, as we believe a restaurant is an offering that members want as part of their club.

On a sad note, Hawks on Second Ave was closed at the end of December, marking the end of an 80-year period of a bowling club on that site. Members would be well

aware of the financial difficulties associated with the continuing operation of that club, and which ultimately brought about the decision to close. The site has been rezoned residential and the club is working with consultants and the local council to finalise the best design for the site. We are hopeful of having a clear direction by early 2013.

Your November Journal has some information on policy changes and price increases for the club’s holiday units, which will come into effect in February 2013, after the holiday season. We regret the need to impose additional expense on members but the reality is that costs associated with the running of the units such as cleaning, maintenance, body corporate fees and electricity have risen dramatically over the past 18 months and there is a need to try and keep pace with those expenses. The increased prices do not offset all the price increases. We are also mindful of upgrading the facilities to maintain a good standard, and the units need to be self sufficient in this regard.

What’s planned for the coming year? For the Ryde-Eastwood site minimal works are currently proposed or planned. A minor upgrade to the stairwell area leading to the lower ground floor and a review of the Auditorium are the only items currently on our agenda. As mentioned earlier there is a major project associated with the Hawks site when the planning issues are finalised. However, the extent to which the club will be involved with any development will not be resolved until that planning and approval process is finalised.

Predictions for the coming year? Hopefully a sustained period of political stability in relation to the club industry, to allow us to concentrate on running your club rather than battling with Governments. For the economy, hopefully also a prolonged period of stability.

On the staff front, I acknowledge the support of all the team for their dedication to their job, support of the club’s objectives and their efforts in achieving the financial result in the past year. Well done team! I also acknowledge staff efforts in support of the Children’s Medical Research Institute by actively supporting ‘Jeans for Genes‘ Day for the past 15 years (this year reaching our own personal fundraising record). The amount raised is matched each year by the Board on behalf of club members.

Staff have also participated in the 10km Run for Fun charity fun run held at Homebush in support of the Children’s Medical Research Institute, and this year (4th November) we again have nearly 50 staff participating to raise funds. Well done to you all for your support.

In closing, I acknowledge the efforts of the club’s Board of Directors, capably led by President Keith Aggett. Another year of non-stop effort in support of your club, by a strong team of committed Directors.

Notice is hereby given that at the Annual General Meeting of the Club, members will be asked to consider, and if thought fit, pass the following resolutions which are proposed as Ordinary Resolutions:

1. FIRSTORDINARYRESOLUTION

(a) That pursuant to the Registered Clubs Act the members hereby approve and agree to expenditure by the Club in a sum not exceeding $70,000 until the next Annual General Meeting of the Club for the following activities:

(i) An annual dinner for Foundation Members and partners;

(ii) An annual Appreciation dinner for sub-club Executive

Committee Members;

(iii) Grants and subsidies to the sub-clubs;

(iv) Two free meals and beverages per fortnight for each Life Member of the Club who is not a Director of the Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club Limited (not to exceed $120 for each meal);

(v) Presentations to members and other persons acknowledging services deemed by the directors as being of benefit to the Club.

The members acknowledge that the benefits in paragraph (a) above are not available to members generally but only those members who fall within the various categories of membership referred to.

2. SECONDORDINARYRESOLUTION

(a) That pursuant to the Registered Clubs Act the members hereby approve and agree to expenditure by the Club in a sum not exceeding $130,000 for the following benefits, professional development and education of directors until the next Annual General Meeting and being:

(i) The reasonable cost of directors attending the ClubsNSW and Leagues Clubs Australia quarterly and annual general meetings and the reasonable costs of directors attending formal functions to represent the club, including but not limited to functions and dinners conducted by ClubsNSW, and Leagues Clubs Australia and including costs associated with the Directors’ partners where attendance is expected and required.

(ii) The reasonable cost of directors attending seminars, lectures, trade displays and other similar events as may be determined by the Board from time to time as being of benefit for Club and the education of directors;

(iii) The reasonable cost of directors attending or hosting other registered clubs for the purpose of viewing and assessing their facilities and methods of operation or for the purpose of meeting and exchanging ideas with the governing bodies of those other clubs provided such attendances are approved by the Board as being necessary for the betterment of the Club;

(iv) Ten car parking spaces for the exclusive use of directors;

(v) Duty directors, while on duty, shall be entitled to the use of a table in the Club auditorium without charge;

(vi) Blazers and associated apparel for each director as may be necessary for new directors, and to replace those of existing directors which may need replacing;

(vii) The reasonable cost of a meal and beverage for each director immediately after a Board or Committee meeting on the day of that meeting where that meeting coincides with a normal meal time;

(viii) The reasonable cost of meal and beverage for each duty director and his or her partner when the duty director is on duty in the Club or within a reasonable period of that date;

(ix) The reasonable cost of directors attending the Club’s holiday units to inspect them or to assess other holiday units for purchase by the Club provided such attendances and cost thereof are approved by the Board.

(x) The reasonable cost of directors, senior management and their partners attending an annual dinner; including a token of appreciation for partners.The total value of tokens of appreciation not to exceed $1200.

(xi) The reasonable cost of directors of the Club attending an organised intrastate, interstate or overseas tour as determined by the Board of the Club for the purpose of viewing and assessing

the facilities of casinos, hotels and entertainment venues and determining trends in relation to entertainment, decor, gaming, marketing and promotion, and thereafter for such director to make a detailed written report thereon to the Board of the Club;

(xii) The reasonable expense incurred by directors in relation to such other duties including entertainment of special guests to the Club and other promotional activities performed by directors which activities and the expense there from are approved by the Board, on production of receipts, invoices or other proper documentary evidence of such expenditure;

(xiii) That the members approve that directors and other members be entitled to represent the Club at sponsored sports events by invitation.

(xiv) The reasonable cost of providing Directors with internet access to access a secure website for board meeting minutes and agenda items

(b) The members acknowledge that the benefits in paragraph (a) above are not available to members generally, but only to those who are directors of the Club and partners of directors who are members and senior management and their partners who are members.

3. NOTESTOMEMBERS

These notes are to be read in conjunction with the proposed Ordinary Resolutions;

1. The First Resolution is to approve benefits which have traditionally been provided in the Club but which are not equally available to all members.

2. The Second Resolution is to approve an amount no greater than $130,000 for the expenditure by the Club in relation to duties performed in or about the Club by directors and expenditure for directors to attend seminars, lectures, trade displays and other similar events including the Clubs NSW Annual General Meeting and to visit other clubs to enable the Club’s governing body to be kept abreast of current trends and developments which may have a significant bearing on the nature and way in which the Club conducts its business. This resolution also includes an option for directors to participate in organised intrastate, interstate or overseas trips to view and assess facilities. This option has been included in our Annual General Meeting Agenda for the last nine years and has been used only once. However prior approval is required by members to ensure the club complies with relevant legislation. Part (i) of the resolution to include reasonable expenses of partners of directors is to allow the availability of directors to attend meetings that are expected or required for their development and knowledge and are often held in distant locations.

To be passed each ordinary resolution must receive votes in its favour from not less than a simple majority of those members who being entitled to do so, vote in person at the meeting.

IMPORTANT POLICY CHANGE RE: DEPOSITS AND CANCELLATIONS

Dear Member

As noted in our previous journal, most prices will increase on 2nd February 2013 after the peak holiday period. Please refer to the website regarding the updated prices or pick up an updated schedule from club reception. There have also been some changes to the deposit and cancellation policies, which come into effect on 1st November.

deposits• A $200 per week deposit is required at time of booking

• A $300 per week deposit is required for peak periods

• A $100 deposit is required for ballot applications, with the balance of deposit

payable within 2 weeks of notification of success in the ballot. (For unsuccessful ballot participants the deposit is refundable).

• $200 of the deposit received forms a security bond, which is refundable on return from your holiday

Cancellations• Cancellations within 90 days of the booking date will result in the deposit being forfeited unless the unit is relet, in which case the full deposit will be refunded.

We regret the need to impose higher tariffs. However, in most cases the increases do not even match the increased weekly costs incurred since the last increase. The change in deposit requirements is not designed to be onerous but to be fair to all users. Late cancellations are, in most cases, unavoidable but they do have an effect on tariffs for all users in the long term, and it is our aim to keep tariffs affordable. Despite the increases, the units are still extremely good value for money, with tarrifs well below normal market rates. CAMERA CLUB Another enjoyable year for our photographic clan here at the Camera Club. We have had the pleasure of a wonderful group of like-minded people who share their photographic experiences and look for opportunities to improve their picture taking skills.The outings provided by the Club to such places as the Old Great North Road, Brigadoon in Bundanoon, and the Mugamarra Nature Reserve could be enjoyed by both photographers and their families. There were wonderful bushwalks at Mugamarra – just to enjoy the flora and fauna. A range of interesting and special images were captured by those of us who had our cameras.At our Monday night meetings we shared in the knowledge of other photographers in such areas as Nature photography, Monochrome and Street/City Life photography.We look forward to our annual Christmas Dinner and Awards Presentations on December 10th. We thank Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club and the directors for their ongoing support and especially for the refreshments that they so kindly provide for us at each of our Monday night meetings.We say farewell and thankyou to our club Secretary and Treasurer, Denis Bainbridge, for his dedication and service to us over the past nine years. CHESS CLUB Congratulations to our under 1400 team (22/32) which won its division in the NSW Chess Association Grade matches. The team comprised Alan Morton (Captain), Ivan Mitrovic, Vince Chiara, Christopher Ball and Martin Chin. Congratulations to the preceding players, especially Christopher and Martin, who both achieved the rare distinction a Chess Association board prize for a score of 70% or more over all their games. Our under 1600 team (13.5/32) was well led by Susan Morgan (3/6) but found the going tough despite solid performances by Greig Edwards (3/6) and Vince Chiara (2.5/6). Thanks to all who represented our club. Our club’s Lightning Championship where each player only has five minutes for all moves resulted in an impressive victory for Ted Wong (8.5/10). Second was Lorenzo Escalante(7.5/10)with Chris Ball (5.5/10), third. At the time of writing our Bobby Fischer Cup, a rapid play event, is in progress, and our Club Championship Final and the Ryde-Eastwood Classic (for members that did not make the final), will commence in October. The Chess Association’s Ryde-Eastwood Open was held at our Leagues Club over the Labour Day long weekend. On the Sunday play was suspended to enable the participants to watch the NRL Grand Final. EUCHRE CLUBOn the 7th August Euchre Club Members and their partners enjoyed a three course dinner, which was beautifully catered for by the Restaurant. The Euchre club meets each Wednesday night in the Willandra Room. Games commence at 7.30pm sharp. Experienced players are warmly invited to come along and enjoy the games. The evening concludes with a light supper. Prizes are awarded to both men and women who are 1st and 2nd each week; monthly and yearly prizes are also awarded. THE FISHING CLUBThe 2012-2013 elections have been held and the committee was re-elected, unopposed. Trevor Fahey, President; Ashley Amstel, Vice President; Brian Boggs, Treasurer; Michael Cheng, Secretary, and most importantly, Nic Ceh as fishing organiser. The August outing was fished in poor conditions but 67 fish were caught, with 34 morwongs in the catch of about 40kgs. The September outing was in much better conditions, a cool sunny day, with a total of 17 fish caught, mostly being leather jackets. Michael got the heaviest bag at 10.5kg, with Steve the biggest fish, a morwong at 1.2kg. Sadly, the October outing was cancelled due to big seas and strong winds. We are looking forward to the November outing. The fishing club organises monthly deep-sea charter boat fishing trips on the first Sunday of most months. Any interested club member should contact Nic Ceh on 9858 2412, or attend the monthly fishing club meeting on the third Thursday of each month at 8pm. GOLF CLUB Richmond was home to our final medal round for the year and the semi-finals of Matchplay. Medals were awarded to Tony Campbell with a net 69 in A grade, and young Jayden Whybro with a net 72 on count back in B grade. Runners-Up were Alan Russell with 70 in A grade and Kaye Henderson with 72 in B Grade. Congratulations to Rick Beves and Steve Ferns making it to the Matchplay final. Massey Park hosted the Team Shield this year and congratulations to Tony Campbell and Brian Ewin, winning with 46 points. Poor Ulla Wood and Jayden Whybro had to settle for second place with 43 points. Dunheved hosted the Pairs Championship this year, and congratulations to Rick Beves and Ross Neville beating the Woodies by ¾ of a shot. Windsor was home to the Matchplay final, and congratulations to Steve Ferns. The day’s event went to Kaye Henderson, with Tony Campbell runner-up. Antill Park was a new course this year and honours at the debut go to Steve Jeffery, with Rick Beves runner-up. Spring is here and the championships have started. The round 1 winners at Fox Hills were Alan Henderson (A grade) and Slava Sokolov (B grade). Runner-up prizes on the day went to Rick Beves (A grade) and Mark Irwin (B grade). Round 2 was at Lynwood (yes everyone’s favourite course), and well done Tony Campbell, with Rick Beves just missing out in A grade. B grade honours went to young Alex Sokolov, with Mark Irwin missing the post again. SENIORS CLUB Another year is nearly over, and it has been a sad one for our Seniors. A number of our members passed away and it is with great sorrow that our Patron, John Bogie, died in August after a long illness. Our thoughts and condolences go to Maureen and family. Also recently passing away were long time members of the Seniors Club, Alfredo Reale and Mable Neill – our condolences to Teresa and Arthur. We have had a busy year with days away, lunches, walks, bus trips and, of course, our once-a-month speakers. With the continuing support of our members we look forward to being just as busy in 2013.We are looking forward to our annual Christmas Lunch and hope the majority of our members will be able to attend. Our annual fee for 2013 remains at $5, with the meetings held on the first and third Thursdays of the

month at 11am, so come along and join us. SQUASH CLUBWe are nearing the completion of the Spring Competition for 2012. This comp we had 2 teams competing a Div 5 and a Div 7 team. With four rounds to play, the Div 5 team are placed a respectable 4th and the Div 7 team are 6th. The Div 7 team were promoted from Div 8 this comp, due to their impressive win in the Autumn Comp. It has been a tough comp for many players, with injuries ravaging many of the teams. Hopefully the next comp will be better for all concerned. Just a heads up, our Annual Presentation dinner is to be held on Sat 17th November, 2012 at Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club, and we hope to see all squash members there. It promises to be a great night. TRAVELLING BOWLS CLUBHello members. Well, 2012 is quickly coming to an end with only one more game to play, on 4th November at Ettalong Bowling Club. It has been an interesting year with the bowling clubs running so many events now we have noticed a change in our numbers. However, we are preparing for 2013 and looking forward to your continued participation. TRAVEL CLUBDuring the past three months we are sorry to report the deaths of two of our foundation members, Val Cameron and Mabel Neall. To Arthur we extend our condolences. Our outings have been well-attended. The lunch at Doyle’s was a pleasant day by the harbour. Our September trip was to Joadja, a heritage listed old shale mining town in the Southern Highlands, first settled by Scottish migrants in the 1830s. All that is left are the remains of the houses, the school of arts, the school and the workings of the oil extraction plant. Although scattered over a large area we were transported from site to site by small carriages pulled by four-wheel drive over a very bumpy road. The morning tea and lunch provided was very delicious. In October we enjoyed our visit to Symbio Wildlife Park in Helensburgh. As usual in November we will have our Melbourne Cup party get together with a fancy hat parade. At the end of the month we have planned a three day trip to the Hunter Valley Gardens and surrounds to see their Christmas lights display, which is reported to be outstanding. Our Christmas lunch will be held on 11th December at the club. This is the finale of our activities for the year. To everyone, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy 2013.
