Clothes Lesson Plan Grade level: Grade 1 (A1 English proficiency) Topic: Clothes Aim: To develop the student’s vocabulary on basic clothes item, as well as to develop a students reading a writing skills. Integrated skills used: Reading and Writing Time: 30 minutes Materials White Board “In my suitcase” Flashcards In my suitcase” activity sheet Vocabulary words Pants Shirt Dress Skirt Hat Shoes Introduction: In this lesson children practise clothes vocabulary with flashcards and online games. They listen to and watch a story about a boy and his favourite clothes, and then join in with a song about clothes. They will then write about their favourite clothing item in the closing activity Warm up (approx. 10 minutes): Draw a suitcase on the board. Tell the class that your suitcase is very heavy (and mime dragging heavy suitcase). Can they guess what’s in it? (Clothes) Can they guess which clothes? Ask for hands up to guess and accept any answers with a ‘Maybe, yes’. Tell the class ‘In my suitcase I’ve got ...’, show the clothes flashcards one by one and say the name of the item, ask them to repeat. Stick the items inside the suitcase on the board. Point to each flashcard again and ask students to say the word out loud again. Give the students some time to Erase the suitcase and take down the flashcards so that the board is bare again. This is important because the next activity will be testing the student’s comprehensive level.
