Welcome!

We were delighted to welcome special visitors

from Kenya to Clipston School on Thursday.

Mildred and Wycliffe were visiting with Rev

Mary Garbutt from the Faxton Family of

Churches which has longstanding links with

Bungoma in Kenya. The children in Years 1 to

6 all enjoyed being taught songs with actions

in English. Mildred and Wycliffe also sang

songs to us in Swahili and told us what life

was like for them as school children in

Bungoma. Education is highly valued in most

parts of Africa. Mildred and Wycliffe would

walk 11 miles to school in bare feet each

day...even during the rainy season and they

have 100 children in a class with only one

teacher! They don't eat breakfast and there

are no school meals or snacks at school. After

morning lessons the children sleep in the

fields and after afternoon lessons they walk

back home, another 11 miles. The only meal

they eat is at home in the evening. Most

villagers don't have electricity and only

source of light is from the fire. We all

enjoyed learning about life in another part of

our world.

Thank you for coming Mildred and Wycliffe

Harvest Festival

Our annual Harvest Festival service was held in

All Saints Church on Monday morning. Family

and friends joined us to celebrate Harvest in

our traditional way with Reverend Angela

Hughes.

A big thank you for all the donations of tins,

dried packets of food and other items. We

were able to send 3 boxes of food to the

Jubilee Food Bank, which they were very

grateful for.

We also made a grand total of £ 358.39 to send

to the children's home in Karisalpatti, which we

regularly support.

Thank you for filling your envelopes with

donations. We had some fantastic drawings!

Bags2School

We would just like to remind you all that our

Bags2School collection will be taking place at

9.00 am on Tuesday 14th October. If you would

like to donate any of the items listed on the

blue bag please leave the bag on the paved area

to the left of the school driveway. You may also

use black plastic sacks if you have any extra

items.

Thank you.

The rice

would fill up

to the green

line!

run by Mr Jonathon Davies. This involved 10

primary school teams answering questions

involving maps, places and basic geographical

concepts.

Chandon, Caleb and William all had a great

time and really enjoyed the event, coming 9th

overall and being awarded certificates for

participation. Well done team

School Association News

Hello all! This is the first of my regular updates to keep you all informed of the School Association’s aims

and fundraising ideas for the year.

At the start of each school year at the AGM, the teachers provide us with a wish list that they would like

the school association to help support financially. There are regular events which have been supported

year on year: the Life Education Bus, coaches for school trips, pantomime refreshments, discos etc.

There are also a number of larger items the School Association has helped with: playground markings,

maypole, lockers for year 6.

All of these ‘wishes’ have been made possible by the wonderful support from the parents and children

at Clipston School. It is through the fundraising efforts of the School Association that we are able to

provide the support needed for these events.

This year’s wish list has included a request to help improve the technology facilities within the school

and once again we will be holding a number of fundraising events throughout the year in order to fulfil

this request. With your help we would like to make this year as successful as previous ones and help the

school continue to provide improved facilities for our children.

With that in mind, I am aware that many of you are unable to join the School Association as you can’t

commit to meetings and every event. We would like to create an email list of helpers who are willing

to assist at events or offer support through the year. Please could you send me your contact details to

the address below if you are willing to be on an email list to request helpers on an event-by-event basis

(no commitment necessary!).

We would also like to hear of any fundraising ideas you may wish to share or any support you could

provide on a corporate level, i.e money to sponsor an event. For example, we have had a very generous

offer from the dad of Kira-Lei Gavin in Robin class. He is the owner of Harborough Mobile Mechanic and

Recovery and he is donating any money his business makes from scrap metal between now and the

Christmas disco to help pay for the disco.

The first event is the curry night on Friday 24th October. A letter was sent out in book bags last week and

it would be great to get as much support as possible for this first event to start our fundraising year off

with a bang!

Please feel free to contact me if you have any queries or would like to offer any help to the School

Association for the coming year.
