  • 1. Beacon House USA Clines-n-Ghana Serving the Kingdom Through the Saints Vol. 19 Issue. 01Fall 2012Reunion, Hope, and Real ChangeUS: Beacon House USA Attn. Scott Danner 7343 Ridge Rd. Lexington, NC 27295 336-764-1900 [email protected] land in Ghana is a VERY long process. The major problem is that we, not the land owner, must do the due diligence on title ownership. This involves a lawyer and a system that is not completely computerized so someone has to sift through 1000s of documents to find the land title and verify it is owned by the person selling it. Care must be taken because many times land has been sold multiple times.Africa: Beacon House Ghana PMB KA 97 Airport, Accra Ghana (Skype:pcnghana) [email protected] Facebook: Patrick-Heather ClineReal Life Christian Fellowship from Houston, TX visited the developing mission work in and around Bolgatanga in the Upper East region of Ghana June 5-13. Among the leadership were Micah Davidson, minister; Will Davidson, elder; Eli; Davidson, deacon; and Dr. Dirksen, elder; with Nicki Jones, Shelby Shipley, and Blake Northam accompanying. Their primary purpose was to visit the finally purchased and titled property to begin exploring opportunities to partner with David and Ursula in a business as mission venture.Reunion, Hope, and Real Change1Dr. Dirksen, a pediatrician and Nicki Jones, a nurse, both came on a medical mission to Vea two years ago and were able to follow up on several children that have since had operations. Micah Davidson and his two sons, one who is a young cousin of Ursula Akurugu also accompanied him. His grandmother was overjoyed to see him! She stated that, she had not yet taken food that day so that she could spend time in prayer and God had filled her stomach with such joy that there would be no need for food. She knew Micah and I were coming but did not know her grandson would be joining. Fourteen years ago she heard the good news of Jesus Christ and placed her sorrows and grief in His hands. After the death of the boys father and subsequent abandonment by his mother this grandmother held on to her faith, knowing God was in control. Today, this grandmothers faith was seen manifest in the return of her healthy happy grandson from the US.Mission Vehicle1The revealing of Gods will out of what seems like horrible circumstances is what makes each day worth waking up and saying, Lord let me be your beacon today. God is so very good!Where is Vea?2Inside this issue:Fundraising Reminder: Mission Vehicle! Time Flies3Prayers & Praises4We have been blessed to have a vehicle loaned to us this past year but we need to buy our own. The recycling fundraising process did not work and we are facing the possibility of not having regular and safe transportation.

2. PAGE 2V O L. 1 8 I S S U E . 0 1Location, Location, Location Occasionally we get asked where is Vea in relation to us at Beacon House. While saying Accra, the capital, is usually self explanatory, Vea, near Bolgatanga is not so clear. Thanks to the magic of the Internet and Mapquest.com we can be a little more specific. As the crow flies, Vea is about 350 miles from Accra. Doesnt seem like very far but when you take into consideration that it takes about 14-16 hours to drive due to the roads the perspective becomes more in line with reality. Because we are borrowing a vehicle we dare not drive it that far; we usually fly into Tamale and hitch a ride from there (about $150 round trip). There are probably some familiar cities and countries on the map for those of you have been with us over the last 20 years. Burkina Faso is where I got lost back in 1994 when working in the far north. Didnt really know I was lost until the signs changed from English to French! We used to work out of Kumasi and Sunyani in areas west of Berekum. Nope, never ventured into Cote DIvoire because the jungle was too thick and the logging roads just didnt cross boarders. We have missionary friends that worked in Damango where they built a nice place over the years. Sadly, the Jaynes are soon calling it a career and are trying to sell the place. Hey, it is a great place and if someone has $148k looking for a business as mission investment; it is ready to walk into and run as a guest house. Of course there is Lake Volta we have crossed a few times over the years in boats that would make most American fishermen cringe with fright. As long as you bucket faster than you travel, all is well. The surrounding countries of Togo, Benin, Burkina Faso, and Cote DIvoire (Ivory Coast) are all francophone. Nigeria, a couple of thin countries to the east, has been in the news a lot lately with car bombings of Catholic and Protestant churches in the north by an Islamist group called Boko Haram. So far the closest they have been seen to Ghana is in southern Niger where a church near one of my former graduate students church in Niamey was bombed.Micah Davidsons sons with the grandmother. Sorry, we do not use former or present Beacon House childrens names for the sake of their privacy. The grandmothers name slips my memory at the moment. The small child beside them just wanted to get in the picture. Hey, it is not often they see small obrunis !The Akurugus, Kayla, and Heather standing on the land that has been purchased for ministry between Bolga and Vea in the Upper East Region. Over two hundred children have been helped in this area after the death of one and or both parents. Now, David and Ursula who are natives of this region will be able to minister directly and on a regular basis to the people of this area. They now have two rooms rented to live in and have been waiting for the past two months for the rains to stop so a truck is able to drive to an area to collect sand to finish the floors. The area is not called overseas for nothing!Kayla was able to accompany us to the Northern Region while on a semi-break from college. She has been taking online courses while here.A company that Patrick has done some consulting work for is allowing them to use their truck to convey their goods to their new home. This is a huge blessing because it would have cost over $1000 to hire a truck to move them. Their two children will need to remain in the Greater Accra area until they complete this semester of school in January. A very generous family in North Carolina has helped with the school fees so the children can remain close to their parents. 3. V O L. 1 8 I S S U E . 0 1PAGE 3Kayla accompanied David via a 15 hour bus ride to Bolga along with these bags of Bibles, soccer uniforms, and hospital gowns donated to the ministry. I have to give it to Kayla, I could not have done that now. At 46, the back has just about given up and those roads would have put me in bed for a week or worse, the local hospital! Kayla, you are real missionary kid! Some of you at Burlington Christian Church might remember 20 years ago Heather and I receiving our blessing send off to the mission field. Here, David and Ursula are receiving the same thing from Faithway Christian Church in Amrahia, near GCUC. They also renewed their wedding vows as well with an exchange of rings. When they were first married they did not have any rings. That hat would make the Queen of England jealous! ;-)Time Flies... Kayla, now 19, has been serving with the ministry since June and will be returning to finish her senior year of college in January. Yup, she will be graduating at 20 years of age! She has been such a blessing to Beacon House while here! If you follow our Facebook page, patrickheather.cline, you would have seen a lot of her work with the kids at Beacon House, especially one very cute little girl who suffers from a hole in the heart. She has also been helping in Beacon House after school tutoring program with the kids and helping with Jadens schooling as well. Much to my waistline, Kayla has been practicing her cooking skills which will include Christmas cookies for the children at the Police Hospitals Childrens Ward. Kayla will get to do one more Christmas Pantomime with the International Players, which donates any money earned to cancer treatment for Ghanaians, before going back in early January. One of the Beacon House kids enjoying the Akurugus blessing service. Well maybe not so much because it was stifling in the buildingWe will miss our little lady but as all children do, they grow up and move on with their lives. It would be great if she stayed with us here but that also would be selfish of us to ask. God has a plan for her and we can only pray that we are around to see it come to fruition. Kayla has 10 months more to go at The Art Institute of Raleigh-Durham and is dire need of some place close to stay. Please be in prayer that she can find a safe place to live until she finishes school. After graduation, she is planning on living at our house in Tega Cay, SC and working in the Charlotte/Fort Mill area.Jaden says goodbye to his to close friends. One has already gone with his two siblings to be with their adoptive families. The other will go soon and Jaden is happy that he will have a mom and dad like God gave him. But, he does feel the loss of two very close friends. 4. Prayers 1.Kaylas returns to college in North Carolina please keep her housing in prayer.2.Electric power will stabilize in Ghana. Please remember our family as her leaving our home will be very hard because she has been such a joy and is very much loved. Thanking God for David & Laken Hardin who are Hunters guardian family while he finishes the semester of school in Tega Cay, SC. They are members of Lifepoint Christian Church, Fort Mill. Hunters football team are in the state football playoffs. Hunter will be re-joining us in Ghana in January and stay until he graduates high school.Childrens Ministry4.A Wonderful womens bible study Thursday 9:00am to 11:45. For one woman especially as she and her whole family have left Islam and are now born again in Christ. Pray for them about the difficulties that come with leaving the Muslim extended family. Her childrens husband and wife have also accepted Jesus. This is both a prayer and a enormous praise!6.School Sponsorship for Orphan Children2.5.2.Christmas program to be performed will teach that Jesus is the true son of God.4.Vehicle1.3.1.Akurugus Vea MinistryKayla is giving Teresa, Ursulas mom, a goodbye hug at the garden patch. Teresa was baptized in a pond where we found out later that day had a crocodile camping out in it. And here I was thinking the people watching were interested in salvation, instead they were watching to see if we were eaten!David, Laken, and Avery Hardin
