During the laser treatment, the laser will be slowly moved across the nail bed. The laser beam will generate heat beneath the nail and within the underlying fungal colony. You will feel a warm, but tolerable sensation during the procedure. As the laser has no effect on healthy tissue, there are no recorded side effects.
Clinical data shows clear nail growth in over 80% of cases after 2 treatments 6 – 8 weeks apart. Depending on the progression of the fungal disease, for severely affected nails or persistent fungal strains, your podiatrist will discuss the possibility of having additional treatments. They will also advise you on the proper care of your nails to minimise the risk of recurrence.
