Why you need to know the classroom procedures?

• For safety.

• For your time in the art studio to be smooth and hassle free.

• To understand your role as a student and my role as your instructor.

• How to act in the classroom

Entering the classroom:• Enter the room quietly and be seated in

assigned seats unless otherwise noted.

• Always check the white board or screen for any classroom announcements.

• Take out any necessary supplies (pencils, erasers, etc.)

When to get supplies:• During the beginning of class (before the bell).

• Check the white board to see what art supplies are needed.

• During a Studio Time, write YOUR NAME – T (indicating you need an art tool)

• When the teacher instructs you to do so.

Art Supplies:The art room is a community; therefore all supplies in the classroom are shared with students not only in your classroom but other periods as well. This means that all art materials will be treated with respect. Any abuse of the materials WILL NOT be tolerated and proper disciplinary channels will commence.

• Mistreating art supplies WILL result in an writing essay.

• Art Bins are tools specifically for a certain table.– If art bins are missing a tool/s or not clean, ENTIRE table will result in an

writing essay.

• Ask for permission before using another person’s materials or classroom supplies.

Sharpening Pencils:

• Best time is before class.

• If you want to sharpen a pencil while I am talking (for the sake of taking notes/ or practicing a demo technique) wave your pencil in an “up and down” motion. DO NOT interrupt my instruction; I will shake my head either YES or NO to let you know whether or not you may sharpen your pencil.

Using the Restroom:• The best time to use the bathroom is before or after class (passing

time).• The time to ask for the bathroom is during a studio-time or after I am

finished with an ART DEMO (most of the time I will say no).• You cannot ask to go to the bathroom for 10 minutes after the

starting bell or the last 10 minutes of class.• No more than one student at a time is allowed to use the restroom.• You must carry the ART ROOM bathroom pass to use the

bathroom.• You must write your name on the sign-out sheet, have the teacher’s

permission, and take the restroom pass with you before leaving the classroom.

• Students are allowed to go to the restroom five times per quarter. • If you are continuing to use the bathroom on a daily basis, your

bathroom privileges will be revoked. (unless having a nurse’s note)

Obtaining a Hall Pass:

• During Studio Time or after the teacher is finished talking to the class.

• Write your name on the whiteboard under the “Out-of-Class Situations” section

Obtaining a Hall Pass during Studio Time• Writing the letter “P” and (dash) and your name on the board.• Writing the letter “N” (Nurse) and (dash) and your name on

the board.• Writing the letter “B” (Bathroom) and (dash) and your name

on the board.

Teacher Directed Instruction (aka Demo Day):

• Stay in your seat and listen carefully when Mr. Ordoña or a student is speaking.

• Follow teacher directions (listening, note-taking, drawing, etc)

• Not the time to ask permission to go to out of the classroom. The answer will most likely be NO.

• You are responsible for your own work and behavior.

Asking questions during Demo-Day:

• Raise your hand when wanting to ask a question or make a comment.

• Wait to be called on; do not call teacher’s name.

Asking for Help Independent Seatwork (aka “Studio Time”):

• Raise your hand and wait to be called on.

• Do not interrupt me when I’m helping another student.

• Write your name on the board, in order, if you need help.

• Each student will get at least 2 minutes of help from me, unless I am catching up a student who has been absent. I will let the class know that this will happen.

• If you are next and I am helping a student, it is okay for the next coming student to say, “Mr. Ordoña, it is now my turn for help.”

Procedure to grab attention back

At times when we are doing an activity I will need your attention to inform you about something. This is how it is done

• When I raise my hand you should:– Have EYES ON SPEAKER– BE QUIET– BE STILL– HANDS FREE (put things down)– LISTEN

• Remember give me FIVE

When Art Assignments are Completed:

• Must complete the after-art project activity • Must remain in your seat and not distract other students.• Must ask permission if you are helping another student.• Can work on assignments from another classroom,

sketchbook OR• Help the teacher with in-classroom housekeeping such

as– Pass back papers– Cut paper– Sharpen Pencils– Sweep floors– Clean tables– Clean sink area– Other tasks the teacher assigns

Heading Assignments:• Info must be on the top left hand side corner

of the paper, unless it is stated elsewhere.– Usual place is on the back side of the paper.

• Must be written like this:– Name (First and Last Name)– Assignment Title (i.e. Cartoon Portrait)– Class (BEG, INT, ADV) Art followed by period

(i.e. BEG Art 3)– Art Number (i.e. #18.3)

Turning in Papers/ Art Major Projects:

• You must have the teacher’s approval before turning in any assignments.

• Collecting papers– Place paper on your table on the interior side– The teacher will collect it or ask a student to collect them

• There are two locations to turn in assignments.– In the wire basket (by the teacher table)

• It holds and paper work that is 8.5 x 11 paper– Inside TURN IN (marked turn in) drawer (by the teacher table)

• It contains assignments that are bigger than 8.5 x 11 paper and any major assignments

Clean – up Time:

• Wait for instructor to call clean up time.• Clean-Up Time should be the last five minutes of

class or when the teacher makes an announcement.

• Clean-Up Tme is the time to return any materials, put items in art cubbies, and clean up work area.

• Clean up any marks on table, (i.e. paint, erasers, pencils, etc), leave nothing on the bottom of the table; last period of the day is to place chairs on tables.

• Check art bins; make sure all materials are there

Exiting the classroom:• The bell DOES NOT excuse the students, the teacher

does. The bell’s job and function is to tell the teacher to stop teaching.

• The exit of the classroom is at the door leading directly outside.

• The teacher will dismiss students by tables (a dismissed table is a clean table).

• Remain in your seat until you or your group is called for dismissal.

• No lining up at the door.• Keep the room clean and neat (pick up litter, return

borrowed property, etc.)

Absences or When You Miss an Art Skills Lesson:

• Check out the Findlay Art Website for updates on assignments: http://my.ccsd.net

• Ask another student (only with permission from the teacher).

• See the teacher.

• All absence notes must be given to Main Office, not teacher.

Getting Things Signed by the Teacher

• Place handout, notes to teachers, or anything that needs to be signed in the wire basket by the teacher’s desk.– Includes:

• Grade Sheets• Behavior Sheets• Progress Reports• Notes from parents/ guardians• Anything that you need for me to SIGN

Tardy Procedures• If no pass is presented, then you must visit

the dean’s office for a tardy pass.

• Your tardiness will be excused if you bring a late pass from the main office or the teacher from your previous class.

Misbehavior:• Verbal warning by the teacher and/or followed by name

on board.• A check followed by your name indicates a teacher

detention.– A writing essay is usual given for any misbehavior

• Two checks followed by your name indicate a phone call to parent/guardian and/or being sent to another room.– When being sent to “Leave Room” does not mean go to the

Dean’s office.• Three checks followed by your name means you will be

written a dean’s referral and sent to the dean’s office.

Cell Phones, Gum Chewing, and Grievance Nuisances

• Cell phones will be taken away and given to the dean’s office.

• Gum chewing will be given any proper disciplinary action.– At times a Gum Essay, Gum Detention is given, or

After School Detention

• Grievances comments that are negative will result on an alternate assignment.

Evacuation Drill• Stop what you are doing.

• Leave belongings.

• No talking.

• Line up by gender by the door exiting outside. The teacher will lead the class out.

• The last persons that leave the classroom will close the door shut (to prevent from fire from spreading).

• Follow teacher/ student holding room sign saying 212.

Emergency Alert• Give FIVE alert

• Quiet

• Wait for teacher instruction and follow instruction completely

When Someone Knocks• Do not open the door

• Inform the teacher that someone is at the door

• The teacher will ask a specific student to open the door

When Phone Rings• Do not answer the phone

• Inform the teacher that phone is ringing

• The teacher will ask a specific student to answer the phone

When the teacher is absent• On your best behavior• If a sub leaves a negative note to the teacher the

student/s and/or class will be given proper disciplinary issues– Mistreatment of the sub WILL RESULT in a behavior essay.– Could result in school beautification program

• An art film will most likely be shown– Follow along– Whatever is shown on film WILL BE on the SEMESTER

This is an 8th Grade Academy Classroom:Findlay 8th Grade Students are in that transitioning period from Middle School to High School. In doing so all 8th grade teachers are preparing our students for that time. Therefore we are holding all students accountable for these specific guidelines.

1. Will have all supplies and materials• Which means you will not be able to borrow supplies from me that you should

already have. (such as pencils)2. Will complete work on time

• No late work accept3. Will not disrupt class

• Possible behavior essay4. Will be in dress code

• WILL BE sent to the dean’s office5. Will not chew gum

• WILL BE GIVEN automatic disciplinary action

That means you too 7th and 6th graders
