FOREWORD

Welcome to Mrs. Grant’s class. I am here to teach; you are here to

learn. I am also here to learn, and you—to teach!

Positive attitude is the key of success. Let’s keep that attitude all the time… or at least fake it.

WHY DO WE HAVE PROCEDURES?

A procedure is the way that we do things.

To do things right, we have to follow some simple procedures, for example: To open a lock, you have to select your

combination as directed by the lock manufacturer.

To make a phone call, you need to enter the numbers in the correct order.

So, to be successful in learning, you need to follow some simple procedures.

ENTRANCE

Make sure you have all necessary materials (binder, paper, pencil too, books) for the class.

Enter the classroom as a professional student. Pick up your assignments on black metal files

on top of file cabinets by door, then sit in your assigned seat.

Place your homework on the upper right hand corner of the desk, and take out your Interactive Reader (from under desk).

Take a moment of silence, then do your opener.

WHEN THE BELL RINGS

You are in your assigned seat quietly working; otherwise, you are marked tardy.

Immediately start the Opener that you have been given.

You will self-correct your Opener. When you finish, look at today’s agenda on

the board, work on completing your Cornell notes, homework, or read your book quietly.

DURING INSTRUCTION

For directions, read and track the speaker. No pencil sharpening, or asking to use the

restroom during instruction. Save personal questions for time between activities.

Ask permission to speak by raising your hand.

STAY ON TOPIC WITH QUESTIONS. If you need to ask a neighbor a quick question do it quietly. i.e. “What page? Where are we?”After instruction, make sure you understand the concept. If not, ask, “What did you mean by___________? I don’t get the part on ____________?”

WHILE YOU ARE WORKING

First make sure you read or listen to the directions about your work and understand them.

If you didn’t understand, raise your hand and quietly wait for the teacher to come by and explain it.

If you are asked to help, be polite and kind and offer your best.

Talking to each other should be no louder than necessary. Use your library whisper.

Respect each other and be friendly. Use your time wisely. Put forth your best effort

to finish your work on time. If not done, make arrangements to work at lunch or after school.
