Welcome to Science

I am very excited about the learning that will take place this semester. The most important thing you can bring to the classroom is your good attitude. I expect you to be a science student when you walk into my room each day.

Materials Needed for success

• 3 ringed binder notebook

• dividers labeled (ACTIVATOR,NOTES, LABS, CLASSWORK/HOMEWORK, ASSESSMENTS-TEST/QUIZES)

• Loose Leaf Paper

• Black or Blue pen, pencil & highlighter

• Scientific Calculator

• Optional but useful: box of tissue, graph paper, colored pencils and ruler

Student Behaviors

• Be prompt Be ready to learn when class begins.

• Be prepared Have materials with you and know due dates.

• Be a polite and positive participant Speak in a normal tone of voice, and listen

attentively.

• Be productive Turn in work on time, and always do your best.

• Be a problem solver Correct problems quickly and peacefully before they

escalate.

Show Respect

• Value yourself. Be honest and ethical, and practice strong moral values.

• Treat all members of the school community and all visitors with politeness and respect.

Consequences

• Nonverbal reminder I will walk close to your table OR make eye contact

• Verbal reminder I will say something to you concerning you misbehavior

• Parental Involvement I will phone or email your parent(s)

• Parent Conference/Counselor Involvement/Referral

***** This is not to say that you will NOT be issued a teacher detention for not following the class/school/district policies.

Responsibility for Coursework

• Bring notebook, textbook, planner, and appropriate writing tools to class.

• Know due dates, and submit all coursework on time.

• Be responsible for all assignments that are given in the classroom.

• Begin each day by looking for the assignment posted on the board.

Promote Lifelong Learning

You can develop lifelong learning traits: By showing curiosity about human nature and

how the world works. By seeking and valuing diversity. By persisting in seeking out new solutions. By using your unique talents and intelligence to

promote positive change. By learning and applying technology tools to

solve problems.

Policies• Food and beverages are not allowed in the

classroom.

Exception: Clear Bottled Water Only—

NOT ON LAB DAYS

• Please be in your seat when the bell rings, as class begins at that time. You should be working on your assignment when the tardy bell rings.

• There are ONLY 3 PASSES per school year out of the classroom UNLESS instructed by an administrator. Use them wisely—I will keep count!

• Absences Ask team members or a classmate first for

assignments. Each absence has a five-day grace period.

Homework/Other Assignments

• You are expected to turn in your work on time.

• Late work WILL NOT be accepted.

• It is YOUR responsibility for finding out what assignments, notes, etc. you have missed.

• ALL missed assignments are to be completed IN THIS CLASSROOM after school within the 5-day grace period.

• Those with EXCUSED ABSENCES will be able to make up any missed exams or quizzes

Grading• Grades are based on the accumulation of points.

• Points are based on: Completion of major tests, quizzes and projects (60%)

Completion of assignments (daily work) and laboratory work (40%)

• Grades are posted online and updated every Thursday.

Our Grading Scale• 90-100% = A• 80-89% = B• 70-79% = C• Below 70% = F

Grades are calculated on cumulative percentage and are rounded up whenever possible.
