The First Cup: the Cup of Sanctification Blessed be the Lord our God, King of the Universe, Who has given usthe Passover feast to remind us that He loves us and has called us to be His own special people; a people freed from the slavery of sin through the Messiah, Jesus Christ.

Dipping of the Parsley

Everyone dips the parsley in salt water, recalling the salt in the tears of slavery and the bitter-ness of bondage as we eat.

The Four Questions:Why is this night different from all other nights?

Page 10: Citywide seder 2012 slideshow

Why is this night different from all other

nights?Answer: Once we were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt but now we are free and we set aside this night each year to remember the great things God did for us. Jesus said in John 8:32: "Then you will know the truth, and the truth shall set you free." We were set free when we came into a personal relationship with Jesus the Messiah.

Page 11: Citywide seder 2012 slideshow

Question 1: On all other nights we eat either bread or matzah, but why, on this night, do we eat only matzah?

Answer: Matzah reminds us of two things -- we were delivered from slavery in Egyptand we have a new life.

Jesus brought new life to us.

Page 12: Citywide seder 2012 slideshow

Question 2: On all other nights we eat whatever kind of vegetables we want, but why, on this night, do we eat only a bitter one?

Answer : We remember how bitter our ancestors' slavery was while they lived in Egypt.

Jesus suffered bitterly on our behalf.

Page 13: Citywide seder 2012 slideshow

Question 3: On all other nights we do not dip our vegetables even once, but why, on this night, do we dip twice? Answer: We are reminded of tears and of a miraculous deliverance, as we just saw portrayed with the parsley. The tears of Jesus and miraculous deliverance from the dead.

Page 14: Citywide seder 2012 slideshow

Question 4: On all other nights we eat either sitting up straight or reclining, but why, on this night, do we all recline? Answer: Before we were slaves, but now we are able to recline to express the rest we enjoy as free people. This pillow represents our freedom.

God, through Jesus, completed the work of redemption in our lives by offering Him as our Sacrifice Lamb. He set us free from sin (often pictured in Scripture as the land of Egypt.)

THE PASSOVER STORY:Exodus 12:1-13

Now the LORD spoke to

Moses and Aaron in the

land of Egypt, saying, "This

month shall be your

beginning of months; it

shall be the first month of

the year to you.

"Speak to all the

congregation of

Israel, saying: 'On the

tenth day of this month every man

shall Take for

himself a lamb, according

to the house of his father,

a lamb for a household.

Page 16: Citywide seder 2012 slideshow

‘And if the household is

too small for the lamb, let

him and his neighbor next

to his house take it

according to the number

of the persons; according

to each man's need you

shall make your count for

the lamb.

'Your lamb shall be

without blemish, a male of

the first year. You may

take it from the sheep or

from the goats. Now you

shall keep it until the

fourteenth day of

Page 17: Citywide seder 2012 slideshow

the same month. Then the

whole assembly of the

congregation of Israel

shall kill it

at twilight. 'And they shall

take some of the

blood and put it on the

two doorposts and

on thelintel of the houses where

they eat it. 'Then they

shall eat the flesh on that

night; roasted in fire, with

unleavened bread and

with bitter herbs they

shall eat it.

Page 18: Citywide seder 2012 slideshow

'Do not eat it raw, nor

boiled at all with water,

but roasted in fire-- its

head with its legs and its

entrails. ‘You shall let none of it

remain until morning, and

what remains of it until

morning you shall burn

with fire. And thus you shall eat it:

with a belt on your waist,

your sandals on your feet,

and your staff in your

hand. So you shall eat it in

haste. It is the LORD'S

Passover.

Page 19: Citywide seder 2012 slideshow

'For I will pass through the land of

Egypt on that night,

and will strike all the

firstborn in the land

of Egypt, both man

and beast; and against all the gods

of Egypt I will execute judgment:

I am the LORD.

'Now the blood shall

be a sign for you on

the houses where you

are.

Page 20: Citywide seder 2012 slideshow

And when I see

the blood, I will pass over you; and

the plague shall

not be on you to

destroy you when I

strike the land of

Egypt.’

LOOKING FOR ELIJAHMalachi 3:1, 4-4-6

"Behold, I send My messenger,

whom you delight. Behold, He

is coming," says the LORD of

dreadful day of the LORD.

And he will turn the hearts

of the fathers to the

before Him in the spirit and
