Mad Science CampsMad Science is the international leader in educational and entertaining science programs for children 6 to 12. Their goal is to spark the imagination and curiosity of children everywhere through fun, entertaining and educational science related programs.

CRAZY CHEMWORKS - Preschool Camp June 16-20 Get ready to lose your mind in the vast and exciting world of chemistry! This camp is full of reactions, observation, solutions, suspension, explosions, concoction, perplextions, digestions, reflections, just to name a few! You will challenge

your friends in the lab ware game, combat evaporation, be amazed at the awesome power of glue technology and trigger some shocking chemical reactions. You’ll snoop out counterfeit money, launch chemical explosions (not TOO big) and learn how and why the chemical world works. So dive into our fantastically fun pool of chemical experimentation! Just don’t mix this one with that one or you might blow up the universe!

Science

New!

MAD LAB June 23-27 Come to the Mad Lab and go scientifically bonkers with a super cool variety of science topics. In Radical Reactions you’ll create glass, control chemical reactions and even

generate power - with chemicals! In Chemical Counting you’ll see awesome chemical magic, build model molecules and electroplate coins! In Cell City you’ll build models of the inner machinery of cells, unravel DNA and break a secret code. In Birds and the Beasts you’ll examine bugs and birds and even what they just ate - yuk! In Organ Trail you’ll learn

about the amazing YOU from the inside out - from bones to brains to heart and lungs and more!

SPY ACADEMY July 7-11 Loom out 007- the Mad Science academy is here! From message decoding to mental detectors and night vision,

campers will have the opportunity to check out spy equipment and even create their own edible message. Step into the shoes of a detective as you uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis. Figure out the science of forensics in a hands-on look at a crime scene. Become a super spy and learn clever ways to performing tasks as we take a hands-on view of the science that spies use. The take-homes for this camp were designed specifically by Q himself!

EUREKA! INVENTOR’S CAMP July 28-August 1 Be inspired by the famous inventors in history - Ben Franklin, the Wright Brothers, Leonardo da Vinci, Rube Goldberg! - and create your OWN inventions! Use their techniques to break

through a series of modern day challenges. You will learn how to invent solutions and make them come to life, just like these legendary innovators. Construct catapults and forts, design underwater vehicles, build a mini-amplifier, and assemble a working light saber to take home. Thomas Edison said invention is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration, but this camp is 100% fun. Add the Inventor’s Proving Ground camp to test even more awesome designs.

CRASH TEST! August 4-8 Put your inventions to the ultimate test! Take designs that you and others create - inspired by the minds and methods of the greatest inventors - and put them to the ultimate test. You’ll pit your catapults against a fort’s protective walls, tweak

wacky contraptions until they knock your socks off, escape a deserted island in your home-made boat, and see if your space capsule design can withstand the tremendous forces of launch and re-entry! Add the Eureka! camp for even more invention fun!

Junior Giants BaseballIn cooperation with the San Francisco Giants and the City of Tracy is once again pleased to offer our Junior Giants Youth Baseball program, the City’s largest single recreation program. Each year this program reaches capacity in most age divisions with over 500 local youth participating. Relying heavily on parents and volunteers, Junior Giants reaches into the community and offers children a chance to learn the basics of baseball, but more

importantly they learn sportsmanship, teamwork, trustworthiness, respect, responsibility and fairness. The program is open to both boys and girls and separate leagues are offered for the following age groups: 5-6 year olds, 7-8 year olds, 9-10 year olds and 11-13 year olds. Age divisions are based on the participant’s age as of June 1, 2014. League games begin play the week of July 1st and ends the week of August 14th. Junior Giants is different than most other youth sports programs in the following ways: * It is a non-competitive league * It is a free program * It focuses on many life skills, not just sports * Pitching machines are used Participants will practice and play games each week at various City ball fields. Each participant will receive a complimentary Giants cap and Junior Giants t-shirt. They will also be eligible to participate in several Junior Giants programs that offer prizes and awards. And, best of all, the program is FREE!

Location: Tracy Sports Complex Fee: FREE Days: Tue-Thur Dates: July 1-August 14 Deadline to Register: May 18 Play begins the week of July 1st and ends the week of August 14th.

Coaches Needed for Junior GiantsGiving to our youth and our community is a positive way to improve the lives of others. Volunteering as a coach in the City of Tracy’s Junior Giants program provides you with an opportunity to have a positive impact on the youth of our community. The Junior Giants program is free non-competitive baseball league that offers participants with an excellent opportunity to learn the basics of the game in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. In addition to helping our youth to learn the importance of self-esteem, respect, teamwork, sportsmanship, responsibility and fairness, the program also offers special programs to improve reading and basic social skills. This free program is for local children ages 4 through 13. To conduct this program, we need volunteers to coach teams in the league. No coaching experience is necessary as the Junior Giants offer coaching clinics and training DVDs to assist new or inexperienced volunteers on proper methods to teach the skills of the game. The program runs from late June through the second week of August. Come by our office to sign up to become a volunteer coach. You and the youth you coach will be glad you did. For more information on coaching, call (209) 831-6200.

In addition to the completion of the required forms, the meeting will provide information on the philosophy and structure of the league and explain the various programs offered through Junior Giants.
