A Letter from the Directors

This is the first school production in the new build and as a co-located academy. It is also the first opportunity for the new Performing Arts department to work together, joining staff from the old boys school, old girls school and welcoming new staff to the fold in this exciting debut of the brand new, state of the art theatre.

Cinderella Ella Ella is a modern day version of the pantomime Cinderella. Our heroine, Ella, is somewhat of a tomboy, who takes after her inventor father, and loves fixing anything mechanical. The usual characters are present including the wicked stepmother, the ugly stepsisters and of course Prince Charming. This original take on Cinderella is packed with humour for all ages and a show not to be missed.

Auditions began at the end of September 2012 and it’s been a non stop roller coaster ever since. The cast have been an example of patients, hard work, dedication and understanding. Alongside their studies and our teaching commitments and responsibilities we found a harmonious rehearsal regime, taking place almost every night. We have been very impressed with the maturity and commitment of the cast and their dedication to manage their time effectively, especially as we have a range of pupils including some in year 11 who are completing their GCSEs.

We would like this opportunity to thank all those who have supplied props, costume, time and effort to ensure this productions success, especially as we have been working with no budget and have begged, borrowed and set an example by not stealing anything which may be used in the show. Also thank you to Joanna Brandariz for her work with the choreography and Sally Tucker for her work with the musicians and vocalists. A special thank you must go to Andy Carr for everything he has done with the technical elements of the production, he has been truly amazing and we would have been lost without him.

We would also like to thank all those who have purchased tickets to support the pupils, staff and school. Without you the production would not be possible.

We hope you have some laughs, get involved and most of all have a fantastic night and enjoy the show!

The Directors,

Sarah Kelly and Samantha Norbury.

Mia Bradley-Singleton

EllaMia is making her final performance at MCMA as our leading lady, Ella. As a year 11 student she will be leaving us this year but jumped at the chance to audition as Cinderella and be centre of attention one final time. Mia is intending to move to Hollywood as soon as possible in the hope they can handle her diva ways. Although Mia doesn’t study drama she makes up for it in experience and she very keen singer and has taken part in various performances, showcasing her talents.

Tyler Broad

PrinceTyler was ecstatic when he discovered he would be playing the Prince Charming as he thought it would give him an opportunity to kiss all the girls in the cast. We were sorry to disappoint him but instead of the girls we gave him a ‘bike’, knowing how men love their toys. During rehearsals Tyler has also been keen to learn about lighting, mainly how to accidental turn the lights off while leaning on the switch, driving us all to distraction ... In darkness. Tyler has many hobbies and, drama aside, he is a very talented sportsman taking part in a variety of activities, his favourite being football.

Kaylen O’Reilly-Broad

DanKaylen is very similar to his performance alter ego, Dan, as he is always perfecting his hair and is very popular with ladies, he even has is own fan base. Watch out for the cheeky winks throughout the performance, even though we’ve tried extremely hard to get him to stop! Kaylen is a very talented student and we have high hopes for him as he starts his performance career at GCSE next year.

Lilly Bradley-Singleton

Fairy GodmotherLilly is a model year 11 student with a shy personality but, once the stage lights are on, she shines brighter than the sun and was a perfect choice for the kind and helpful Fairy Godmother. Lilly has also been developing her directorial skills during rehearsals and the cast and crew are grateful for the additional feedback she provides. She thoroughly enjoys the arts and has shown talent in all performance aspects including Drama, Dance and Music. Her dedication and commitment are inspirational; she always ensures she makes time for extra curricular work, participating in numerous performances.

Katie Shackleton

ButtonsKatie is in year 9 and is debuting as Buttons, the hired help who can’t help but be in love with

Ella. Like Buttons, Katie’s personality is bubbly and bright. She is always so enthusiastic and never misses a cue. Katie is also a massive ‘Friends’ fan and has tried at every opportunity to somehow reference it in the show, see if you can spot it, it’s her favourite part! She is also taking part in one of the dances of the show which highlights her passion and dedication for performance.

Kelsea-Leigh Cunnicliffe

Zippy

However, she over came her fears and there has been no stopping her since. No stopping her chatting and missing cues at every given opportunity. Kelsea has a knack of always needing the toilet at the most inconvenient times, usually when she is needed on stage! On a serious note, Kelsea has developed in many ways since joining the cast; especially with her confidence. She has become such a big part of the department over the last few months and we hope this continues after Cinderella.

Jake Jehu - Professor TrumpJake, year 9, jumped at the chance to play Cinderella’s father Professor Trump and couldn’t wait to be the husband to Samantha Rayner’s character, Iwana Trump. Jake has shown an outstanding level of commitment to rehearsals, being the first one there and last one to leave. He was also the first to be off script and an example to all. Jake came to us when a member of the cast sadly had to depart but he has made this role his own and we couldn’t imagine anyone else playing the part.

Kelsea joined the cast after the main auditions and was nervous at the prospect of auditioning alone.

Samantha Rayner

Stepmother, Iwana TrumpSamantha was perfect for the role of the wicked stepmother, Iwana Trump, as in her audition she blew us away with her performance of an evil laugh - something she loves to share during every opportunity. Samantha aspires to play the evil character in every pantomime and share her talent with the UK and hopefully, one day, the world. She is dedicated to the arts and has a passion for Dance as well as Drama and hopes to continue this at GCSE level.

Zoe Ndlovu

Stepsister, Mozzarella This is Zoe’s final performance at MCMA as she leave us after her GCSEs to pursue a career in fashion. She has brought her own personal style to the character and her costume is something she says she would usually wear at the weekend. She was very excited when it was approved by the directors, luckily she ignored the description of her character’s look (outrageous, tacky, vile etc). All joking aside, Zoe has been an absolute pleasure to work with and we hope she continues to develop her acting talent when she leaves us.

Monique Cooper

Stepsister, BonjellaMonique has a big personality around school and we were so glad she decided to audition for Cinderella Ella Ella. Teamed with Zoe, Monique is one half of the Ugly Step sisters and plays Bonjella aka Bonny. Don’t be fooled by her alter ego’s ‘ditsy’ ways, Monique is a star pupil and destined for big things. The West End scouts have already

noticed her talent but she intends to stay grounded and focus on her studies, taking drama at GCSE, before heading for the big time.

Paris Morris - BobParis is a year 7 student and the youngest of our main cast with high hopes of a performance career. She is debuting for MCMA in ‘Cinderella Ella Ella’ but has other experience of the bright lights of the stage with an amateur dramatic theatre company outside of her school commitments. Paris is a dedicated, enthusiastic member of the cast who never fails to make sure we’re all on time. She also has kept us on our toes by constantly asking ‘what page are we on?’

Mr. David Webb

The Godfather Mr Webb is some what of a celebrity around school for his contributions to productions. He jumped at the chance to show off his gangster-like qualities as ‘The Godfather’ and he’s been keen to practise his ‘poker face’ for the show. We are very grateful to Mr Webb for giving up some of his time to be apart of MCMAs first school production as a co-located school with our fantastic, new facilities.
