St Thomas’ is a reasonably large enthusiastic church, with a membership of about 100 adults and 30 children. They are a church committed to having a biblical ministry and expository preaching. Their aim is to serve one another and the community with many groups for children and young people, mums and tots, and various social and evangelistic events. They also have an unashamedly Christian primary school, and a vibrant nursery. The church aims for the All Age services to be an opening for non-Christians. In 2007 the church suffered a flash flood following torrential rain. As a result it was necessary to carry out extensive repair work which gave the church the opportunity to renovate the building. This included replacing the old pews with more comfortable chairs. The Rosehill Maxim Deluxe was the ideal choice as it is stylish and provides flexibility with the ability to stack seven high. The church also ordered a solid oak lectern and communion table. The search for new chairs is always

fraught with emotion and Rosehill helped

to pave the way with a well laid out brochure which helped to

identify the style of chair required. Rosehill then visited with

samples chairs which they left for the congregation to try

over a period. During this time many opinions were

expressed and the decision was narrowed to the Churchill

or Churchill Deluxe chair.

The smaller Churchill chair was better suited along with the

larger back pad from the Deluxe chair for added comfort.

Rosehill manufactured the chairs to order with the additional

Keyhole Links, Curved Book Boxes and Rubber Foot Ferrules

plus the stain repellent Checkers Fabric and the frames

stained to blend in with the surroundings.

The Church of St Aidan’s was originally built is 1539 in Billinge, Lancashire. Prior to its existence the local people had to travel into the centreof Wigan to attend the Parish Church before they decided that they should have their own place of worship within the village. By 1718 a newchapel had been built which was one of the finest in the area at that time. This chapel had a capacity of 200 at the time when the population of Billinge was only about 900. The church was extended again in 1907. At this time the galleries and the box pews were removed. The seating was replaced with small wooden chairs which have been there up until the church decided to purchase new chairs from Rosehill.

“There were some who doubted whether the Rosehill chairs would

look right in our 300 year old Church. However, since they were

installed we have had many compliments on both their appearance

and their comfort. They greatly enhance the appearance of the

church and give it a warmer and more welcoming look.”
