Lord give me patienceTexT:“Sarai said to Abram ‘Behold now the Lord has prevented me from bearing children go in to my maid it may be that I shall obtain children by her” (Genesis 16:2)

ScripTure readingGenesis 16:1-16

Tonight’s message reflects the way most of us handle the issue of patience. In the scripture reading for the message we see that Abram and Sarai had been waiting a long time for a son. This son was the one who would fulfil the promise God made to Abram and Sarai that their descendants would possess the promised land of Canaan. The delay was a form of test of their faith. All of us regardless of how many blessings we have received, can recall times when we have tried to run ahead of God. Sometimes the things we wanted so badly, if God had given it to us at the time we wanted, it may be dangerous for us.

God knows when to send his blessings and how. Lack of faith is a common sin among Gods people. Regardless of Sarais suggestion to have Hagar act as a substi-tute mother (surrogate mother). Abram was the guilty one Sarai did not cause Abra-ham’s sin, she simply stirred his (adamic sinful nature) until the sin in him surfaced.

Paul says “But remember this, the wrong desires that comes into your life aren’t anything new and different, many others have faced exactly the same problems before you and no temptation is irresistible” (1cor 10v13).

Our lack of faith can hurt others. The entire world has suffered greatly fromthis lack of faith demonstrated by Abram. The Israel-Arab conflict today goes back to the birth of Ishmael the son born to Abram by the ‘Maidservant’. God blessed Abram and Sarai in spite of their lack of faith. He gave them Isaac the promised child. The most important lesson to be learnt in this story is that we must Trust God and wait on him no matter how difficult things may be.
