Although there is nothing wrong with those things, none of them capture the true meaning of the day. Easter is about the resurrection of Christ. Jesus isn’t dead; he’s alive! But, so what? What does Easter have to do with us? The simple answer is EVERYTHING! Jesus' resurrection from the grave changes our past, present, and future. It changes our past because all of us who have been baptized in Christ, have been baptized into his death. As Romans 6:4 reminds us: Therefore we have been buried with him by baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. This means that all of our sins — past, present, and future — are forgiven by Jesus’ sacrifice. In Christ we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace. (Ephesians 1:7) All of our sin is forgiven in Jesus’s sacrifice for us, and we are set free from sin, so that we may live a new life by God's grace. Our present is different because we’re given a new life in Christ. This new life is different because we are free in Christ to not live only for the here and now, but for what is to come. We are no longer weighed down by sin, but free to love as Christ loved us. We are resurrection people! As resurrection people, we are called to live out Christ’s mission whenever and wherever we can. When Jesus walked on earth, he made it his mission to love and serve all people in need. As resurrection people, we must stand up and speak out on matters of justice. We are to live differently because of our relationship with Jesus and what he did for us. We can no longer live for ourselves, but for Christ. Our future is also most certainly changed because of Jesus’ resurrection. The amazing thing is that we, as believers in Christ, get to share in Jesus' victory over death and the grave. As followers of Jesus, we are given the gift of eternal life. This is indeed the will of my Father, that all who see the Son and believe in him may have eternal life; and I will raise them up on the last day. (John 6:40) Because of Jesus, we will live forever! Because of Jesus we, too, will be resurrected to live in heaven with God and all those whom we love. Jesus’ resurrection has big implications for our past, present, and eternity. In a world that is blinded by the temporary, and lives for the moment, let us never forget that the resurrection has changed everything. Let us also live lives that are different because of Jesus. Let us live with the purpose of sharing God’s amazing gifts of love, grace, mercy, and forgiveness. With the joy of Jesus’s resurrection, Christ is Risen! So what?

A newsletter for the friends and family of Christ’s Ev. Lutheran Church APRIL 2019

Every good Christian knows that Easter is not about jellybeans, chocolate bunnies or Easter egg hunts.

With the joy of Jesus’s resurrection,

Christ is Risen! So what?

MONTHLY

February Offerings (and other income) $9,151.57

February Expenses $12,510.80 SHORTFALL (—) $3,359.23

YEAR TO DATE

Income $16,420. Expenses $24,567. SHORTFALL (—) $8,147.

For the month of February we had a deficit of

$3,359, which is $819 LESS than this time last year. The year-to-date deficit is $8,147, which is

actually $1,112 less than last year at this time. This is a good trend, but once again, our income did not support our regular, budgeted expense.

We ask for your continued help to support our ministry.

Yours in Christ,

Brian Fenstermacher, Treasurer

Financial Report February Statistics

The Finance Committee is looking for volunteers

for the AUDIT COMMITTEE

to review two random months of income and expenditures for 2018.

If these are in order, this will complete our synod required audit. This needs to be done by June.

If you can help, please call Brian Fenstermacher at 215-529-9118!

The INreach Committee will meet on Sunday, May 5th at 10:30am.

All interested folks are invited to attend!

Memorial

Garden

Lawn Mowers Needed If you are able to help in mowing the church lawn, please sign up. You may mow the lawn yourself, or sponsor the mowing ($75). A sign-up sheet is located on the bulletin board in the Narthex. You may also use Signup Genius. A copy of our lawn-mowing procedure is available from the church office.

If you have any questions, please speak with Paul Gerhart Jr. or Brian Fenstermacher

Thrivent Financial has been and hopefully will continue to be a source of funding for our church. We have received funding from Thrivent in a few ways. Choice Dollars are funds available to Thrivent members that have certain types of insurance. Members need to direct their choice dollars each time Thrivent gives them to you. I don’t think you can automatically have them always directed to Christ’s Lutheran Church. The other thing to be aware of is that these dollars expire after a period of time. If you have the required Thrivent insurance policy and receive choice dollars, I encourage you to check that your choice dollars have been directed and that they are not expiring. In the past the church was able to apply for funding for events and fundraisers and Thrivent would directly send the church money. Thrivent has changed this policy. The church can no longer apply for funding. Instead, Thrivent has created Action teams. Thrivent Benefit Members can apply for two $250 Visa gift cards per calendar year to fund activities and fundraising events. It is easier to be a Benefit Member than it is to receive choice dollars. Associate Members can apply for one $250 Visa gift card per calendar year. You can become an Associate member by purchasing any product from Thrivent or by paying an annual fee of $19.95. Applying for the Action Team cards can only be done on the internet through the Thrivent website at:

www.thrivent.com/making-a-difference/ living-generously/thrivent-action-teams/

You need to create an on-line Thrivent account. If you don’t have on-line internet access, ask other members of the church to help you. Please contact Brian Fenstermacher for further information and assistance. In order for the church to continue to receive funding from Thrivent, we need our Thrivent members to help.

Yours in Christ Brian Fenstermacher

In honor of all our Easter Candy…

Prayer of Confection

God, we are grateful for this SWEET life you have given to us; it is BON BON. Forgive us when we FUDGE the truth, CANDY COAT issues of injustice, and

do not live according to your RECIPE for a faithful life. We are grateful that you don’t DESSERT us

when we are tempted to WAFFLE in our choices, or are in a JAM.

Help us to choose the right path. We know that your realm is like an UPSIDE DOWN

CAKE, where the first are last and the last first. Help us to live according to your ways which are

“SWEETER also than HONEY, and dripping of the HONEYCOMB.”

Trusting in your love, we offer our confessions and longings,

PRALINE in the name of Jesus, the Christ. Amen.

In the SWEET name of Jesus,

Nicole DeReiter Evangelism Chairperson

Others Have . . .

Why shouldn’t we?

Throughout the years, many of our members have remembered God’s ministry at Christ’s Lutheran Church through their wills. Their gifts have benefitted and sustained a ministry for all of us.

Now it’s our turn to benefit and sustain future generations by putting the church in our Wills. Through prayer and faith, we encourage every member of Christ’s Lutheran Church to ask God to direct you in this important matter.

May Book Club:

By Invitation Only by Dorothea Benton Frank

Wednesdays in May at 7:30pm May 1st, 8th & 15th

Books available in the Narthex for $10 each

By Invitation Only is a tale of two families, one struggling to do well, one well to do, and one young couple—the privileged daughter of Chicago’s crème de la crème and the son of hard -working Southern peach farmers.

Dorothea Benton Frank offers a funny, sharp, and deeply empathetic novel of two very different worlds--of limousines and pickup trucks, caviars and pigs, skyscrapers and ocean spray--filled with a delightful cast of characters who all have something to hide and a lot to learn. A difference in legal opinions, a headlong dive from grace, and an abrupt twist will reveal the truth of who they are and demonstrate, when it truly counts, what kind of grit they have. Are they living the life they want, what regrets do they hold, and how would they remake their lives if they were given the invitation to do so?

Bulletin Sponsor is needed for

May 26th!

Cost is $15. per week

I am Thanking You Right Now

Dear GOD: I want to thank You for what you have already done. I am not going to wait until I see results or receive rewards; I am thanking you right now. I am not going to wait until I feel better or things look better; I am thanking you right now. I am not going to wait until people say they are sorry or until they stop talking about me; I am thanking you right now. I am not going to wait until the pain in my body disappears; I am thanking you right now. I am not going to wait until my financial situation improves; I am going to thank you right now. I am not going to wait until the children are asleep and the house is quiet; I am going to thank you right now. I am not going to wait until I get promoted at work or until I get the job; I am going to thank you right now. I am not going to wait until I understand every experience in my life that has caused me pain or grief; I am thanking you right now. I am not going to wait until the journey gets easier or the challenges are removed; I am thanking you right now. I am thanking you because I am alive. I am thanking you because I made it through the day’s difficulties. I am thanking you because I have walked around the obstacles. I am thanking you because I have the ability and the opportunity to do more and do better. I’m thanking you because FATHER, YOU haven’t given up on me.

Sermon on the Mount

This worship series for Lent takes us through some of the

most familiar teachings of Jesus from his Sermon on the

Mount in Matthew 5-7 and relates them to the events

surrounding Christ’s life, death, and resurrection. In the

process, the services will powerfully reveal that the cross itself

is the ultimate sermon on the mount for our journey of faith

in this sacred season.

Holy Humor Sunday Sunday, April 28th

9am Worship

Join us as we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection with joy and laughter on Sunday, April 28th! Holy Humor Sunday gives us an opportunity to

continue the spirit of rejoicing as we come to an even deeper understanding of the risen Lord through our encounter with humor in worship!

This is a NO EXCUSE Sunday because: Pillows will be placed in the pews for those who say “Sunday is my only day to sleep in.” We will have hard hats for those who say, “The roof would cave-in if I ever came to church!” We’ll have blankets for those who say it’s too cold and fans for those who say it’s too hot. Doctors and nurses will be in attendance for those who plan to be sick on Sunday. We’ll open the windows for those who like to seek God in nature. There will be TV dinners for those who can't go to church and cook dinner too. Golf clubs will be available for practice swings for those who like to golf on Sunday. Finally, we’ll try to find a Christmas poinsettia or an Easter lily for those who have never seen the church without them.

Bring your sense of humor and join us for a celebration of God’s love shown in the miracle of the resurrection. This is the time to express our joy and share our laughter, for as mother Teresa said: “Joy is prayer. Joy is strength. Joy is love. The best way to show my gratitude to God is to accept everything, even my problems, with joy. Never let anything so fill you with sorrow as to make you forget for one moment the joy of Christ risen!”

On Sunday, March 3rd, we celebrated the gift of God’s grace as

Izabelle Grace Fox & Annabelle Marie Fox

were Baptized in the name of the Father, Son & Holy Spirit.

Annabelle was born on Monday, May 19, 2014.

Izabelle was born on Tuesday, August 24, 2010.

Easter Flower Orders are due

Sunday, April 7th!

June Grove

June Anola Faulkner was born on December

30th in Mobile, Alabama. She was raised as the

oldest of three children; she has two brothers.

June met Jack at a military officer’s club dance

at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Jack was smitten; it was love at first sight. June

quickly offered to make Jack some authentic

southern fried chicken, which she assured him would be better than

Maryland fried chicken. The catch, however, was that June’s Mom

& Dad didn’t have faith in her cooking skills, so June’s Mom made

the yummy dinner instead. No matter – it worked, Jack was

hooked!

They married in the Lutheran Church in Mobile, Alabama on

January 21, 1961 and honeymooned in New Orleans. En route to

his first operational assignment, Jack drove them through a blizzard

in Lincoln, Nebraska. She had never seen so much snow till then!

And so the adventures began…and has continued for close to 60

years!!

Every 5 years or so their location would change – they’ve lived in

Texas, Arizona, Florida, Alabama, New York, etc. While in

Plattsburgh NY, June joined a gourmet cooking group at the

officer’s club. She developed into quite a good cook. In fact, her

cream of broccoli/onion soup was so popular that the club actually

placed it on their menu!

June and Jack emphasized faith and education with their four

children: Alison, John, Cheryl and Jeff. All of them have

Engineering degrees and two even have their Master’s degrees.

June's quiet intelligence and self-sufficiency speaks volumes. Her

multi-talents covered painting lifelike porcelain doll faces, sewing

doll clothes and outfits for their children. Her nurturing ways con-

tinued by sewing baptismal gowns and slips for each of her nine

grandchildren.

Reflecting on their numerous travels, one favorite vacation was to

Greece for their son, John's wedding. It was in a small chapel on a

point of land East of Athens. Afterwards they toured Athens,

Santorini and Crete. Retirement has been busy for June. She enjoys

auctions, visits to her children and grandchildren, and she also likes

playing Mah Jong (an ivory tile-based game that was developed in

China).

Recent genealogy research for June's family, the "Ferrill" and

"Faulkner's," has reached back as far as the 1500's! This research

revealed that her Grandfather was a Confederate Methodist Minister

during the Civil War. June and Jack have even searched a swamp

cemetery in Mississippi for his grave. While visiting Ireland they

found tombstones of another ancestor.

What’s next? June enjoys volunteering her time with coffee hour

baked goods, assembling newsletters, and countless other activities

that support the ministry of our church. We are certainly blessed to

have June as a member of our church family!

PRAYER PILLOWS Needed!

Every year we give prayer pillows to all 3-year-olds in September. Our supply is getting low. We are in need of folks who are willing and able to sew the pillows. It is a very simple project & lessons can and will be given.

We are also in need of kid-friendly cotton fabric. One yard of fabric actually makes two pillows.

If you are able to help in any way, please speak with Pastor or Amy Ruscavage.
