    A. Have you ever

Jodie is an American girl who lived in Britain for two years. Team Magazine asked

her about Christmas traditions in Britain and the USA.

Team:Jodie, is Christmas different in Britain and the USA?

Jodie:Well, we both have greeting cards, carols and Christmas trees, except that in Britainwe put a fairy on the tree and in the USA we have a star. We both hang stockings, but we

hang ours in the fireplace and usually get a few little things in them. In Britain, the kids hang

them on their beds and get lots of presents in them. In fact, some kids use pillowcases

because they get so many toys.

    Team:What else did you notice?

Jodie:We both leave something out for Santa Claus, or Father Christmas as they call himin Britain. In the States we usually leave a glass of milk and a cookie out for Santa. In Britain

they leave a glass of sherry and a mince pie for Father Christmas and a carrot for Rudolph

    the reindeer!

    Team: What about Christmas lunch?

Jodie: Well, the meal isnt really that important at Christmas Thanksgiving is our big foodholiday. But we have turkey, like they do in the Uk.

Team: What was strange about Christmas in Britain?

Jodie: The crackers! Theres a joke, a toy and a paper hat inside. The British all put theirhats on, read out these terrible jokes and then eat their lunch still wearing their crazy hats.

Its fun, but it was a little strange! Pantomimes were also unfamiliar to me!
