Comment: Alexandra McMorrow, International Head of Department, 19th Century European Art Christie’s:
“This sale saw competitive bidding and strong results achieved for the top lots, particularly the elegant Boldini and the vivid Fortuny. We are also very pleased with the prices realised for the 19 th century French masters, the market for which is enjoying a resurgence of demand. This is emphasised by the exceptional result of “Pommes rouges” by Gustave Courbet. The breadth and depth of this category is further reflected by the two new artists’ records set for German artist Franz von Stuck and for Italian artist Filippo Palizzi.”
