From the Desk of Mrs. Sonen . . . . The end of the first term of school is fast approaching. Students are working very hard in their
classes. Teachers are busy with assessments and the end of term one is near.
Earlier this term students chose a learning goal on which to focus. Students, parents, and
teachers will soon have an opportunity to discuss the learning that has happened this term.
Students will lead tri-conferences with parents and teachers, showcasing their learning with a
variety of items in their learning portfolios.
In November, we also take time to remember all those who served Canada in the past and con-
tinue to serve at the present time. We are fortunate to live in a country in which we can enjoy
freedom and safety.

Operation Christmas Child
The Operation Christmas Child Shoe Boxes are

greater purpose than giving presents and a mo-
ment of joy. Our school will be collecting shoeboxes between now
and November 20th. Any families interested in preparing a box can
pick one up at the office. Suggested items include:
School Supplies (pens, pencils, pencil crayons, note pads, etc.)
Toiletry items (soap in a sealable bag); Toys (stuffed animals, jew-
ellery, t-shirts, socks, etc.). Please do not include playing cards,
candy, used items, toothpaste, war-related toys, or anything that
could break, leak or freeze. Please read the directions closely, and
include a cheque for $7.00 made out to Samaritan’s Purse to cover
the cost of shipping of your shoe box. For more information, please
visit: http://www.samaritanspurse.ca/
SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR What better way to promote reading to our students
than by supporting this important literacy event?
Christ the King School will be hosting a Book Fair
during tri-conferences
November 23rd and November 25th.
During that week, your child’s library class will consist
of a sneak peek at the book fair. The book fair items
make great Christmas gifts! Feel free to invite friends
& family members to stop by!
We invite you to come during your child’s library
class, or any time during the school day. The book fair
will be open evenings during the
Tri-Conferences as well. If the school sells $1500
worth of books, we receive 60% back in product for
our library and school resources!
School Behavior
Expectations/Rules
Four basic rules have been es-
tablished so Christ the King
School can be a safe, caring and
respectful environment in which
students can learn at their best.
The expectation is that all four
of these rules will be followed
by everyone in the school and
on school grounds:
Treat others the way you
want to be treated
Be Safe
Be Ready to Learn
Respect Property
Formal Day
In conjunction with our
Remembrance Day Service on
Wednesday, November 10th,
everyone is encouraged to
dress in their formal wear!
Never forget the contri-
butions and sacrifices of
the men and women
who have served Cana-
da in times of war, mili-
tary conflict and peace—especially
those who did not return.
Feast of Christ the King On Sunday, November 22nd, it is the Feast of Christ the King, our School’s name sake.
The students from our school have been asked to do the Mass parts and music.
A note will be coming home explaining this and asking for a commitment of attendance.
The SCC and staff will be helping with the lunch after Mass on this day.
All proceeds from the lunch will go towards future purchases for our school.
Hot Lunch
The SCC is having Taco in a Bag for their next
hot lunch on
Wednesday, November 18th.

parents and teachers, showcasing their learning with a
variety of items in their learning portfolios. It is very
important that students are present at the conference as

It’s inFLUenza season – get vaccinated!
Influenza is a contagious viral disease of the respiratory
system. Influenza is spread by coughing, sneezing or di-
rect contact with the viruses in nasal and throat secretions.
Symptoms include sudden onset of fever and chills, a
cough, muscle aches, a headache, fatigue, and a runny or
stuffy nose.
In most cases, influenza is a self-limiting illness that may
result in being home sick for a few days. Influenza can
result in hospitalization and death, especially in very
young children, the elderly, and those with serious under-
lying health conditions.
Immunization prevents influenza illness in about 70% of
healthy children and adults.
In the Cypress Health Region, influenza immunization
clinics will be taking place in October and Novem-
ber. Please visit www.cypresshealth.ca/influenza.htm for
a complete listing of all flu clinics being held throughout
the region.
