Suzhou Embroidery, contemporary

The Chinese New Year print became popular during the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127), after the unification of the country. These were printed by using woodblock. These prints were available in the Chinese New Year for the people to decorate their homes during the festive season. The main theme of the print was to express the hopes and the wishes of the owner for a prosperous year ahead. In addition, the prints were used to educate the illiterate peasants to follow the traditional virtues such as filial piety.
