Come and learn Chinese Brush Painting technique, an ancient art form that dates back to 4000BC. You
will learn how to use the beautiful brushes, Chinese ink and Xuan paper. Watching the reaction of the ink
onto the paper is truly magical. We will unravel the mystery of some of the great master’s work and you
will gain a good understanding of how the brush needs to move. From painting bamboo to painting the
beautiful vibrant colours of the peony with bees and butterflies if time permits we will paint birds and
learn how to paint the local landscapes using this technique.
This course caters for a wide range of abilities from people that do not have any previous artistic ability
to long standing established artists.
The course will be demonstration lead to help guide you through each step of the way.
I am a Chinese brush painter and have been painting in this style for the last decade and teaching for 8
years. During this time, I have exhibited and taught locally in Devon and nationwide for example Art in
Action (Oxford), Saltram House (Plymouth) Women’s Institutes (nationwide), Art Societies (nationwide),
Chinese Welfare Association (Belfast) and many schools from primary to 6th form, helping students gain
Art qualifications and scholarships. I recently became a lecturer for NADFAS, a worldwide Association for
those that have a shared curiosity for the arts and artistic heritage.
I was taught by, and continue to learn from Xiao Bai Li ,one of the countries’ leading Chinese brush
painters. I enjoy using my grounding in traditional Chinese brush painting technique and adapting it to
portray my local Devon land and riverscapes especially the moors and the beautiful Devon coastline.
