The Holy Spirit inside YOUThe Holy Spirit inside YOUThe Holy Spirit inside YOUThe Holy Spirit inside YOU Today is Pentecost! Jesus prom-

    ised His friends, His disciples,

that God would send a helper to them.

The Helper is the Holy Spirit, and to-

day we celebrate the day the disciples re-

ceived the gift of the Holy Spirit. The

Holy Spirit came to them and helped them

to live a new life...a life following Christ!

Did you know you have this same Helper?

Yes! Right inside of you! After you were

baptized, you received Holy Chrism. Thats a special oil that shows you

have the gift of the Holy Spirit. In fact, do you know what the priest said

when he put the oil on you? He says, The seal of the gift of the Holy

Spirit. So, you have this same gift of the

Holy Spirit inside you. But why? Youre not

one of Christs first disciples. No, but you still

need a helper a helper to live a new life...a

    life following Christ!

Did you know that you can always ask the

Holy Spirit to help you follow Christ better?

    He is your Helper!

A DESERT FATHER SAINT ONUPHRIUS OF EGYPT

Have you ever been to the de-

sert? Maybe youve visited Arizona or

maybe even somewhere like Egypt. Eve-

rybody knows that the desert is a very hard

place to live. Today, we can bring water into

the desert with canals and irrigation. But

long ago, it would have been hard to sur-

vive. In the daytime, it can be awfully hot.

At nighttime, it can be extremely cold. And

if you dont have enough water, you just

    cant live there.

So why would somebody go to live therewithout food, without water,

without clothes! Saint Onuphrius lived in the harsh desert in Egypt. He

went there so he could focus on praying to God. He could focus on

growing closer to God. In the desert, all by himself, Saint Onuphrius

wouldnt have to worry about the things we worry aboutmoney,

school, our neighbors, and so on. He could just think about God.

You probably arent going to leave for the desert anytime soon. But you

can think of Saint Onuphrius. What would you pray to him about?

Maybe you can ask him to help you with praying? Maybe you can ask him

to help you focus on God, too!

We celebrate St. Onuphrius the Great on Thursday, June 12th.
