Child Protective Services (CPS) is concern for the care of children, which is expressed through laws established in every State.

Every child has a right to adequate care and supervision and to be free from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.› It is the responsibility of parents to see that the

physical, mental, emotional, educational, and medical needs of their children are adequately met.

When parents cannot or will not fulfill their responsibilities to protect their children, CPS has the right and obligation to intervene directly on the children’s behalf.

Once the child is remove from his/her parents home we want to best protect the child’s overall well being. Therefore, CPS want to assure that the child is move to a permanency home as quickly as possible.

(mental, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual) that can be used to facilitate change.

› Each child has a right to a permanent family.› Each child and family member should be empowered to work toward his or her

own needs and goals.

Respect for: › Persons of diverse racial, religious, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, and a

belief that there is strength in diversity.

Emergency Response (ER):› When a referral is received, the social service staff obtains facts from

the person making the referral to determine if the referral alleges abuse, neglect, or exploitation. ER do investigation and report between 2 hours to 10 days.

Family Maintenance (FM):› Services are provided to children who remain safely in the home while

the family receives services. If it is determined that a child cannot remain in the home, even with family preservation and support services, then foster placement is arranged in the most family-like setting, that is located close to the parent's home, consistent with the best interests of the child.

Family Reunification (FR): Up to a certain months of services are provided to children and their

families when a child has been removed from the home and the family is making progress toward reunification.

Permanent Placement (PP):› Is designed to provide an alternative permanent family structure for

children who cannot safely return to their parents. The placements are either long-term foster care or legal guardianship.

CPS is the central agency in each community that receives reports of suspected child abuse and neglect

your trusts as social worker because according to the community CPS is known as awful or bad because we are taking kids away.

CPS serves all ethnicity but the main goal is protecting children from harm and neglect.

Any children that fall under these codes are at risk.a) Serious physical harm(b) Failure to supervise and/or protect(c) Serious emotional damage(d) Sexual abuse(e) Severe physical abuse of a child

under age 5 years(f) Death of a child(g) No provision for support(h) Freed for adoption(i) Cruelty(j) Abuse of a siblingIf the child fall under any of these codes CPS have the

right to intervene and take your child away.

Need to understand and practice the method and strategies that draw upon the strengths of children, families, and communities.

Need to considerate individual growth and development and family development from a lifespan perspective.

Should focus on safely maintaining children in their own homes or, if necessary, placing them permanently with other families.

Understand the perspective of clients who may come from culturally diverse backgrounds. It ‘s important to accept them for who they are.
