Representative EngagementsRepresentative Engagements

Prepared the head of operations for promotion: through coaching in communication and relationship management, as well as team building and facilitation of strategic planning sessions, the team’s performance improved and the client was considered a succession candidate for more senior roles in this Fortune 500 global exploration and production company.

Coached the Vice President, National Accounts on managing relationships: as a female in a male-dominated, traditional global construction materials company, this client needed support in her approach to colleagues and customers. Cheryl provided feedback on her communication style and encouraged her to rely on her skills in building relationships at all levels. The client was promoted from a sales role to operations management, and was elected to a leadership position in the industry’s professional association.

Returned a business unit President to the succession list: this individual managed up very well but had significant issues with his team. As a result, he had been removed from the list of potential successors for more senior level roles in this $9 billion global oilfield equipment and services company. Cheryl conducted an extensive 360 feedback process to create awareness and solicit support, and repeated the process in order to assess progress throughout the engagement. Through coaching, the client improved his communication and leadership style and was reinstated as a high potential candidate.

Supported the CEO of a global drilling company in planning the transition to his successor by helping him define his approach to transferring his knowledge and accepting that the corporate culture would change. In order to minimize the negative impact of the transition, Cheryl coached him through the process of communicating with the board of directors and his employees, and dealing with their emotional reactions. She helped him explore his options and timing for considering other opportunities while fulfilling his responsibilities to the company. As a result, the CEO enlisted his direct reports in preparing the information for his successor, and encouraged the employees to maintain their loyalty to the company.

Equipped team members to communicate and collaborate: the new leader of the Human Resources team for the Americas Region of a global integrated natural gas company needed to address a number of problems on the team. In order to help each team member gain increased self-awareness, Cheryl presented feedback from individual Birkman assessment and conducted interviews to understand the issues. She facilitated a teambuilding session focused on managing potential conflict areas. Cheryl coached the team members in using the new insight for their project planning process. Participants reported improved relationships and enhanced team performance.

Ensured successful executive integration: supported the new head of supply chain in a specialized retail organization in learning the corporate culture in a different industry. His predecessor had failed to build relationships at corporate headquarters as well as in the field, so he had to overcome a negative perception of the supply chain function. Cheryl conducted 360 interviews at regular intervals during his first six months, focusing on culture fit, relationships, execution, conflict resolution, and leadership. The Managing Director was successful in all aspects of his role and was given additional responsibility before his first anniversary with the company.

Facilitated mission/vision creation: surveyed the members of an oilfield services leadership team and led a session to create their mission and vision statements. Extremely high ratings included team members’ comments regarding value created through group interaction and focused direction.

RecommendationsRecommendations

Cheryl has been instrumental in transforming our workplace. Her expertise with coaching in one-on-one and group settings is amazing. She is a great meeting facilitator and able to handle the strong personalities of oilfield leaders.  I have been using her to coach the group on leadership, making the difficult transition from individual to group contributors and helping them understand the needs of their employees. Morale has improved and ours is the highest performing team in the company. Cheryl is punctual, professional, highly skilled and trustworthy. I would recommend her to anyone looking to improve their organization's performance, from individuals needing a little polishing to improving the entire organization. Brett Pennington, Senior Vice President of US Onshore Operations - Murphy Exploration & Production Company

When told I was going to "get a professional coach," I had a very negative attitude and was highly resistant to the idea. After all, I had gotten this far on my own, and I was very busy. However, after several meetings with Cheryl and a big career change, I came to understand how much I really had to learn. Cheryl helped me navigate very difficult political waters, a challenging role change, and some career de-railing behaviors. I openly credit with Cheryl with my successful transition into executive leadership. In particular, Cheryl has the experience and insight to work with an executive to find unseen weaknesses and hot buttons, and then to offer substantive solutions to remediate them. (It is much easier to find shortcomings than it is to fix them...) I recommend Cheryl. James King, Vice President, Unconventional Multi-stage Completion Systems – Baker Hughes

What I appreciate about Cheryl is that she came in with an approach to address my “whole person”, not just my work environment. Cheryl has a way of quickly figuring out what you need, what motivates you, what will keep you engaged in the process, and how best to hold you accountable. She has a way of asking the right questions to help you arrive at solutions that will work for you, but doesn’t leave you to just “figure it out”. Cheryl works diligently to help you uncover what thought patterns, communication patterns, or behavior patterns are barriers to your success and how to change your approach. I have always felt Cheryl is invested in this relationship. She isn’t just going to show up, have a conversation, and then move on and leave it up to me to decide if I’m going to follow through. Because she invests in the relationship and genuinely cares about my success, I have more than a coach. I have a coach, a trusted advisor, a cheerleader, a planning partner, a little bit of tough love, and someone with whom I will have a long standing relationship. After just the first session, I was able to see an impact and the evolution has not stopped. Like many leaders, I am very busy, but every minute I allot to the coaching process with Cheryl has paid dividends. Melissa Tompkins, Managing Director Financial Planning and Analysis - Service Corporation International

Cheryl is an outstanding executive level professional who brings a strong background and tailored approach to coaching.  Her focus on understanding not only specific goals and desires but the underlying opportunities/challenges provided an incredible foundation for our coaching sessions.  Through outstanding communication skills she was able to guide me in the development, execution and accountability for positive results.  I highly recommend Cheryl as an executive coach for anyone who is looking to improve their team or individually. John Boardman, Senior Vice President - Castleton Commodities International

Cheryl is very professional and intelligent. She has a wonderful ability to understand complex business situations affecting human behaviors in an organization and provide implementable solutions. Mahesh Joshi, former President Cameron Centrifugal Compression

Cheryl has been working with me as an executive coach since my promotion to Principal Accounting Officer. She has helped me tremendously in the transition from technical expert to business partner. Cheryl has been able to help me with my communication style and build stronger relationships with other executives in a way that is being noticed positively throughout the organization. Cheryl recently lead a group exercise at Parker related to managing through the downturn - the subject matter was very relevant in this environment and the participants all had a great time. The discussion was very interactive and resulted in easy takeaway tools for managing teams in these tough times. I really enjoy working with Cheryl and am glad to have her guidance! Leslie Nagy, Principal Accounting Officer – Parker Drilling

Cheryl was able to provide guidance and constructive advice on how I should approach a number of activities that would help me move from being considered a technical expert into senior management. She was able to make me think in simple terms that enabled me to find the solutions I needed to move my career ahead. I would recommend Cheryl for anyone who is considering a coach to help improve their self-awareness in the workplace. Peter Fitzpatrick, VP Ship Design & Construction – BG Group

I had some serious trepidation about the executive coaching process when offered the opportunity. However, upon meeting and working with Cheryl, I quickly realized that I was dealing with a true professional and a wonderfully caring individual. Cheryl provided me with valuable tools and suggestions to help me define a path to expand my strengths, while minimizing my weaknesses. It is often difficult to adjust to a new corporate culture and/or change one’s behavior, but with the right focus and support as provided by Cheryl, success can be assured. I highly recommend Cheryl to any executive or firm seeking a coach. Eileen Rimeikis, VP, Customer Success Management – IQNavigator

Cheryl has excellent communication, coaching and consultative skills. She is attentive to the needs of her client, asking the right questions and listening for understanding. Cheryl is an excellent business partner and I would have no hesitation to hire her or contract with her for executive or team coaching. Bruce Shaffer, Director Talent Management – OneSubsea
