The approach balances an understanding of the physical environment and the properties of hazardous chemicals with real-world exposure assessment methodologies in order to provide practical interpretation of existing conditions and overall risk. The overall goal is to provide a rational and objective perspective of existing conditions so that the true problem can be identified and a cost-effective solution can be achieved that will satisfy multiple stakeholders. Mission Statement My goal is to provide top quality evaluation of environmental conditions to

resolve my clients’ issues based on State-of-the-Science methods. The approach balances an understanding of the physical environment and the properties of hazardous chemicals with real-world exposure assessment methodologies in order to provide practical interpretation of existing conditions and overall risk.

The overall goal is to provide a rational and objective perspective of existing

conditions so that the true problem can be identified and a cost-effective solution can be achieved that will satisfy multiple stakeholders.

Education Bachelor of Science in Geology and Mineralogy, Ohio State University, 1982 Master of Science in Geology and Geophysics, Ohio State University, 1984 Graduate Program in Epidemiology and Environmental Health Science,

College of Medicine and School of Public Health, Ohio State University, 2002-2012 (ABD)

Professional Experience October 2014-Present: Principal Scientist/Consultant and Owner,

Hexagon Environmental Solutions LLC. 1989-2014: Environmental Consultant and Principal Scientist at four

consulting firms serving federal, state and local governments, as well as Fortune 500 companies and small businesses; Environmental Forensics Practice Leader at two firms.

2005-2014: Principal Scientist/Technical Lead for Emergency Response

Actions for Transportation, Petroleum and Chemical Facility Clients. 1993-1995: Adjunct Faculty for Environmental Technology at Columbus

State Community College teaching Environmental Chemistry.

1985-1989: Environmental Scientist and Industrial Compliance Specialist/Technical Writer, Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, and Battelle Memorial Institute, Office of Waste Isolation and Facility Control Design, Inc.

Professional Specializations Human Health Risk Assessment, Exposure Assessment, and Epidemiology

(1996-present): Real-time monitoring of air contaminants and exposure assessment for soils and groundwater related to emergency response actions and site assessment, and preparation of epidemiological reviews for exposure/disease relationships associated with site-specific contaminants. Preparation of traditional human health risk assessment reports

Environmental Forensics (1995-present): Specialization in evaluation of petroleum hydrocarbons, PCBs, PAHs, metals and solvents in soil, groundwater, sediments and air. Applications directed toward understanding multi-component relationships in complex mixtures to evaluate sources, degradation, fate and transport, as well as differentiation between sources.

Emergency Response Technical Support (2005-present): Provide senior level consultation to response managers, clients, regulators and field teams regarding chemical risk and characterization, response plan development,

health and safety, fate and transport, response actions, and site closure. Exploratory Data Analysis and Applied Multivariate Statistics (2000-present):

Use of advanced statistical and graphical tools to “find the underlying story in a complex data set” with applications in source attribution (including differentiation of background), fate and transport, monitored natural attenuation, mixing models, environmental epidemiology, site assessment and risk assessment. Methods have been successfully applied to PAHs, PCBs, petroleum hydrocarbons, indoor air/soil vapor, metals (soil, sediment, and mining waste), risk assessment, site closure, and litigation support.

Brownfields Redevelopment and Site Assessment (1995-present): Certified

Professional (CP) under Ohio EPA Voluntary Action Program with multiple large scale assessment and redevelopment projects related to manufacturing facilities, transportation corridors, petroleum facilities, pipelines, mining, energy and commercial/residential redevelopment. Duties have included designing and directing full site assessment activities, fate and transport modeling, risk assessment and remediation. Brownfield activities centered in Ohio, with extensive site assessment investigations across the U.S. as well as internationally (Brazil, Chile, Canada, Great Britain). Litigation Support (1994-present): Court testimony, deposition, expert opinion, and senior-level expert review for cases involving groundwater, air releases, solid waste, petroleum/chemical releases, and source attribution. Litigation support technical activities have included statistical evaluations, chemical fate modeling, meteorological assessment, geophysical surveys, and hydrogeological aquifer testing. Project Management and Staff Supervision (1990-2003): Project management for large (>$1M) and small projects including technical proposal development, schedules, budget and client relationships; assistant Environmental Division Manager with responsibility for business development, staff supervision (17 staff), business plan development, and maintenance of profit margins.
