A new method for the preparation of dianionic sulfur-containing organolithium com- pounds which react with various electrophiles giving functionalized mercaptans is presented. Key step is the reductive ring opening of thiacycloalkanes (I) with lithium in the presence of DTBB as a catalyst. The presence of the phenyl group in the heterocycle is indispensable. The intermediate organolithium compounds do not suffer . alpha.-deprotection (referred to sulfur). — (ALMENA, J.; FOUBELO, F.; YUS, M.; Tetrahedron 53 (1997) 15, 5563-5572; Dep. Quim. Org., Fac.
