Location and amenities

The historic city of Silves is within a 10 minute

drive, this city was once the capital of the whole

district and was still referred to in the beginning

of the 19th

Century as the Kingdom of the

Algarve . So much history is attached to Silves

and its surrounding area that only a book would

do it justice.

Although steeped in history Silves is now a

modern city with schools, health centres, shops,

banks and university etc

SchoolsThere are a number of schools in Silves

including nursery school (Jardim do infancia)

primary school (Escola primaria) and secondary

schools (Escola secundaria). All lessons are in

Portuguese and entrance is free for foreigners, the

only cost involved is purchasing the yearly school

books and work materials. In general the younger

the children are the quicker they adapt to the

language and the Portuguese way of doing things.

For older children and ones who wish to continue

their studies in English there is the Porches

(private) International school within a 20 minute

drive from Silves which offers lessons in both

English and Portuguese.

Beaches There are numerous beaches within a

20 minute drive from Silves including Praia
