    Chapter 4

    PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

    This chapter presents, analyzes, and interprets the findings based on the

    specific problem listed previously and the hypothesis set at the onset of this study .

    The data gathered regarding the profile of the respondents are presented in

    graphs and are described, analyzed, and interpreted narratively.

    Problem no. 1: What is the profile of the respondents in terms of gender, year level,

    monthly allowance, family structure, residence, study hours and type of social

    activity?

    Figure 2 shows the distribution of the respondents when they are grouped

    according to gender. Gender is divided into (a) male and (b) female. Out of one

    hundred (100) respondents, seventy four (74%) are female and twenty six (26%) are

    male.

    The result reveals majority of the nursing students in De La Salle Health

    Sciences Institute were female.

    History also shows that women have dominated the field of nursing. Female

    nurses outnumber males by a proportion of 19 to 1. Nursing as a profession has

    been connoted with a womans tender loving care. However, at the present time

    male nurse population has been significantly increasing. (www.cmaj.ca)

    Figure 5 presents the distribution of the respondents when they are grouped

    according to year level. Out of one hundred (100) respondents, twenty-five (25%) of

    the respondents are first year students, twenty-five (25%) are second year students,

    another twenty-five (25%) are third year students and twenty-five (25%) are fourth

    year students.

    The result shows that there is an equal distribution of nursing students among

    the year levels.

    Figure 4 illustrates the distribution of the respondents when they are grouped

    according to monthly allowance. The monthly allowance is divided into (a) Php

    1,000-3,000 (b) Php 4,000-6,000 (c) Php 7,000-9,000 and (d) Php 10,000 and

    above. Out of one hundred (100) respondents, thirty-seven (37%) have a monthly

    allowance of Php 1,000-3,000. Another thirty-seven (37%) have a monthly allowance

    of Php 4,000-6,000, sixteen (16%) have a monthly allowance of Php 10,000 and

    above and ten (10%) have a monthly allowance of Php 7,000 -9,000.

    The findings reveal that majority of the nursing students have monthly

    allowances of Php 1,000-3,000 and Php 4,000-6,000.

    Figure 5 presents the distribution of the respondents when they are grouped

    according to family structure. Out of one hundred (100) respondents eighty-seven

    (87%) of the respondents have both of their parents living together with them, nine

    (9%) have single parent family wherein one parent works abroad/ deceased/

    separated and six (6%) have absentee parent family wherein both parents work

    abroad/ deceased.

    The result shows that majority of the nursing students belong to a 2 parent

    family where in both parents are living with them.

    Figure 6 shows the distribution of the respondents when they are grouped

    according to the type of their residency. Out of one hundred (100) respondents

    seventy-two (72%) stays in their own residence and twenty-eight (28%) stays at their

    dormitories.

    The result reveals that majority of the nursing students stays in their own

    residence.

    Figure 7 shows the distribution of respondents when they are grouped

    according to the hours allotted in studying per day. Out of one hundred (100)

    respondents forty-five (45%) allocate 1-2 hours for studying, thirty (30%) of the

    respondents allocate 3-4 hours for studying, fourteen (14%) of the respondents

    allocate less than 30 minutes for studying, eight (8%) of the respondents allocate 5 -6

    hours for studying and three (3%) of the respondents allocate more than 6 hours for

    studying.

    The result indicates that majority of the nursing students allot 1-2 hours to

    study per day.
