The Orbis Piano Trio, who made their UK debut with us last October, will be this year’s resident ensemble. Founded in 2008, the Orbis Trio is formed by three young and talented Czech artists. In 2009 the trio became the laureate of four international competitions and in 2010 were awarded the prestigious Czech Society of Chamber Music Prize. The Orbis Trio will launch the Chamber Music season with a concert of works by Joseph Haydn, Arno Babadjanian and Bedrich Smetana on the 16th October 2014. On the 29th of January Kettle’s Yard welcomes back Tom Poster, former Kettle’s Yard student concert programmer, to accompany BBC Young Musician of the year 2012, Laura van der Heijden, on cello. The series also marks the return of Mark Padmore, tenor, who gained a choral scholarship to King’s College, Cambridge and has since established a flourishing career performing in operas, concerts and recitals. Following the completion of their critically acclaimed new release ‘1917’, Tamsin-Waley Cohen and Huw Watkins (who read music at King’s College) will join us to perform works by Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel as well as selections from George Gershwin’s “American folk opera” ‘Porgy and Bess’. The summer term features a series of concerts inspired by Kettle’s Yard’s Henri Gaudier-Brzeska and Dance exhibition. This major exhibition marks the centenary of the death of the French sculptor who was killed in action in WWI in June 1915. The summer concerts explore the themes of the exhibition; dance, movement and the cultural landscape of 1910s Europe. Highlights include Alexander Ulman, piano, performing three movements from Igor Stravinsky’s ‘Petrushka’, first performed by the Ballet Russes in 1911 in Paris. For the final concert of the series Krysia Osostowicz, violin and Julian Jacobson, piano will perform Stravinsky’s dramatic masterpiece ‘The Soldier’s Tale’ whose diverse musical sources include jazz, big band marches, waltz and tango dances. Notes for editors Full programme of concerts and tickets available here: http://www.kettlesyard.co.uk/music/chamber/ The Kettle’s Yard Chamber series presents carefully selected pieces performed by leading musicians in the beautiful setting of the house at Kettle’s Yard.
